    The Spanish translation was correct. Nobody would talk like that, it is a robotic translation in the end, but it does the job.
    BTW, this reminded me something that happened to me almost four years ago. I was taking pictures somewhere in the middle of the way of St. James here in Spain. It was late summer so, although it was early in the morning, there were already pilgrims walking, mostly Japanese. I stopped for a moment taking pictures at this monastery waiting for a Japanese guy to pass by. He was watching his phone and, when he was about to pass by my side, he smiled and said "¡Hola!" ("Hello!") to me, to which I replied "¡Hola!" and we both went on to our own businesses. I was starting to think it was funny enough that I had driven over 450 kms. overnight to be there, in the middle of nowhere taking pictures at this old monastery ruins and I had kind of met a Japanese guy to say "hello" but just as I was in the middle of this thought, I could hear a robotic voice from his phone saying "Konnichiwa!". I just had to start laughing.

    HONESTLY? I agree with a lot of people here, this is a very cool device but it may not be worth the price. There are many other apps like Google Translate and Hostelworld that already offer free translation of dialog. Also, I am used to get a SIM card every time I travel to another country and get a data plan included, some phones even have a double SIM tray. And for me, the biggest difference is that my phone also offers translation of text like websites or even signage (by taking a picture). I don't see the point on having another device when I can multitask with one. I rather use the money on something else... like a refurbished electric scooter rescued from the Vltava.

    If that thing does Finnish, I'd love it if you guys tried it out! The Finnish language is notorious in being hard to translate because of it's complicated grammar rules. For example, the "Google Translator Finnish" is kind of a joke here in Finland and an excellent way to recognize some of the internet scams. :D

    • @b6983832
      @b6983832 Před 4 lety

      It is even worse than "rally English", bad English with Finnish grammar, translated word by word, and spoken with a thick Finnish accent. This kind of broken English was spoken by some Finnish rally drivers, who were not fluent in English.
      User manuals of Chinese made products translated in "Finnish" are often hilarious. A well-known example is "lämmikkö", user manual of a children´s inflatable paddling pool.
      There was a scandal in Finland when the leading bookstore chain was caught selling Shakespeare translated by Google. Try to imagine King Lear translated into incomprehensible gibberish by a machine.
      In Estonia, we are used not to trust Estonian versions of any user guides. I have seen an instruction on a spaghetti package saying it should be put in cold water and boiled for 19 minutes! Product was made in Italy, and doing this to pasta would be a sacrilege for any Italian.

    The question of whether or not this gadget works was answered in the video. (It does.)
    But is it worth the $200+ price tag and the $4/month subscription fee? I don't think so. The device doubling as a hotspot isn't really a good selling point for it either because you can get a Huawei pocket WiFi for less than a hundred and insert a local SIM. From my experience, local SIM cards offer more data than an all-in-one solution like Lingogo or Tep or Skyroam (the last one I absolutely hate).

    The Chinese translations kinda ... meh...
    first sentence back to English is "Hello, I am YangNeek, from Czech, Prague republic"
    second is "this is actually possible, now it translating it into mandarin"
    the translations are like have no contexts with conversations. so, could be misunderstanding
