    Brian, first thing, never - never run your motor with the drive unit trimmed to an up position!

      Of course not! About half way through when I started the engine up in the driveway the out drive was not trimmed up, it was tilted down a good bit

      I was saying halfway through the video, when I started it in the driveway. The out drive way as close to down as I could get it, basically the same as running it trimmed up in the water.

    Oh shoot. I hate that! Bone dry! You just never know what's going to happen. Still a great boat. A replacement outdrive... or repaired / rebuilt... and you're back in action. I know you'll get it squared away. You've got too much into that boat - and you are a talented mechanic. That boat was very well used when you got it. Anyway - still a killer boat, and hopefully you're back in action soon!

    So i just watched every one of your videos and when i saw the title of this one i remembered when you changed it last and never filled it back up. I remember thinking, he's gonna leave it empty? Im sorry brother but I hope you get it back running soon!

      Hey thanks for watching them all!! Do you remember which video I didn’t fill it back up in? I’m about to go back and watch them all to see lol. I can’t remember the time line of everything I did but I only remember draining and refilling it 1 time but maybe I did a second time and never refilled? 🤷🏻‍♂️ that would explain why I never saw any leaks lol

      @joshuacoey9392 Před 17 dny +1

      @@brianbluemkejr so i dont recall which one specifically, but i know you drain and filled it then when you changed the gasket at the transom you drained it again but never refilled it. Maybe im crazy but i don't recall seeing you refill it anyways!

    • @brianbluemkejr
      @brianbluemkejr  Před 17 dny

      lol I just went back to rewatch it, so in the first test drive video I brought it back and tour it all apart, I didn’t record me refilling it but I did mention it at 36:40 that I refilled it. I have no clue where that fluid went but it sure was bone dry up top after it blew. I still haven’t popped open the drain plug yet since they say it broke so interested to see what comes out of there.

    Pretty sure the same thing happend to me last week, was out on the lake for 5 hours and running good then randomly just stoped and the motor reved up, wouldn't shift into fwd or reverse while engine was on. With the engine off it seems like it shifts but I haven't opened that top cap yet to take a look as I'm gone for the week. Did find a guy selling a used but clean Alpha one Gen one for 100$ I'm going to replace mine with, mine has a crack at the bottom that JB Weld didn't hold up and it was empty on oil which I think caused mine to fail. Hope you get yours fixed up!

    • @brianbluemkejr
      @brianbluemkejr  Před měsícem

      Ya pop that cap and it’ll explain a lot. Hopefully yours isn’t blown though. Mine blew with little to no noise or grinding so I was shocked to see the gears all destroyed.

    Everstart Batteries are made by Johnson controls and are amongst the best battery you can buy in a wet cell battery.

    • @brianbluemkejr
      @brianbluemkejr  Před 2 měsíci

      Wow didn’t know that, found out that it wasn’t the battery either. It was those crusty terminals preventing it from cranking over. Now I have a brand new spare battery! lol

  • @mattdudley3789
    @mattdudley3789 Před 2 měsíci +1

    You will likely find the gear oil in the driveshaft bellows. There is enough space in the bellows to accept all of the gear oil from the outdrive.

    • @brianbluemkejr
      @brianbluemkejr  Před 2 měsíci

      Ya that’s what I’m thinking… if it’s not in there, I have no clue where it went. It was parked on concrete for the last 8 months and never leaked at all.

  • @andreireal9158
    @andreireal9158 Před 2 měsíci +1

    Ah yes - the part where you have to tow the boat against the current by hand standing shoulder deep - I almost felt that 😆 Been there, done that as they say. Also a good idea with the starter cable connections, mine has the same problem of slow start, will check them now. As for the outdrive - better to buy used I guess, a used alpha one gen 2 can be anything from $600 to $1200

    • @brianbluemkejr
      @brianbluemkejr  Před 2 měsíci +1

      100% check the terminals, good starting point for diagnosing the issue. Wish I did that myself and could’ve saved a few hundred dollars and a couple hours in the sun fixing it lol. And yup, used out drive worries me alittle bit because who knows the life it’s been through. Might be looking toward new, who knows !

    • @andreireal9158
      @andreireal9158 Před 2 měsíci

      @@brianbluemkejr it all depends on your plans for the boat I guess. If you are going to keep it - the new outdrive is definitely worth it. If you are going to fix\enjoy\sell\move on, than a used one seems more reasonable. Also, to make further boating less frustrating think on installing a small transom and a kicker motor, like a 6-9.9 hp outboard. That way you won't need towing at least. It's also fun to cruise on it and save some gas\enjoy low noise.

    • @brianbluemkejr
      @brianbluemkejr  Před 2 měsíci +1

      lol this has been on my mind for awhile now… I for sure need one. And ya I think the end goal is it fix/use/sell before summer ends. Just need to get her 100% first. Just found someone with a new mercruiser out drive for sale on market place for 1200$. Said he put it on his boat then the engine blew, only has like 5hrs max on it. Gear ratio is 1.47 too which will be perfect for this boat. Trying to set up a date to go snag it soon, located in NY.

    • @andreireal9158
      @andreireal9158 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@brianbluemkejr wow, the price is really sweet! not so sure about 1.47 ratio though. That number sounds way too low, like for a diesel engine with low rpm and high torque. The petrol alphas usually come in 1.64-1.85-1.92. Dunno, ask where he got it and if it was from\for a diesel, that's probably how he blew the motor (with excessive load) and the same might happen to yours.

    • @brianbluemkejr
      @brianbluemkejr  Před 2 měsíci

      So he had it on a 350 V8. Everything I saw online showed typically V8s run 1.47 or 1.32, v6 run 1.65 or 1.85 and 4 cylinders run 1.98. What would you recommend running on it?
