This is Blondie covering a 1967 song by the Jamaican band "The Paragons." The style is reggae.
When she sings "I'm going to be your number one," it could be that she's referring to the first mate, a role on the ship which is second in command. So it's like a marriage proposal: "I'll be your wife."

No Madonna and then no Gwen Stefani. 5:17 "They don't make women like Blondie any more." Yeah, no kidding! But here's the thing, besides being heavenly gorgeous, Debbie had real pipes. You guys are just young - just discovering Blondie. I love you taking us along with you on your experience. So I will tell you about my long-time love of Blondie as a group: Gowing up in the 70s and 80s as a white (gay) male, this group just drew me to them. I love basic Punk rock simplicity of the songs, but I always loved Debbie Harry's vocals. Still do. Not lying. This was one of the few groups that was led by a female singer, and I think that's amazing in itself.
There was a period in the late 80s early 90 in the anti-disco era where it wasn't considered acceptable for males to like her music, but I still kept the faith. I always loved Debbie Harry. To be honest, Debbie, and Blondie in general, were way ahead of their time, and I think that their music is just as relevant now than it was then. Or moreso. As a group, they were very diverse. They were a punk group headed by a sexy woman that then also introduced rap and reggae into the mix, and opened the doors for so many other people after them.Blondie was a seriously game-changing group. I've always felt that, but I also feel that they are not given their creative due.
Blondie as a group is an amazing group. I've always thought that was true, but for a long time during the
Ant-Disco Era, the message was that they weren't.Now I understand that that's a bunch of bullshit. The group is amazing. It's diverse. It crosses genres. Yes - all of these things. These guys, and Debbie Harry are amazing, and after thirty years of loving them but kind of sort of apologizing for that- I"m going to stop apologizing. I love this group. They were awesome in the 70s and they are awesome now.
ou said it sounds like ska - and it is ska.

This is the low rent video for the song. The video that aired on MTV back in the early 80s was way more magical and had a much higher production (and sound) value.

You should see Deborah Harry earlier. Playing at cbgb's in New york? She's this skinny heroin looking blonde chick with a mohawk looking very pop punk. These people were right on the Innovation Edge at the time in the New York scene for sure. It influenced so much music to come.

Appreciate when others point out things that me, as a non musician, hear. I never think of the drummer being good unless they do a crazy solo. That's not what makes a good drummer. It helps. So as people point out different things in music it helps me appreciate it all more

jamaican music became a trend during the 70s until the 80s, many rock and pop bands covered or copied ska/reggae/rocksteady songs, like this one from The Paragons...
Ska was quite popular in the UK during the punk days, but in the early 70s even Led Zeppelin made a reggae song and Keith Richards was a huge fan of those genres.
