- Hey guys today I have for you a review of the new gear VR (virtual Reality 360 ) with USB type C support and my experience using it with the Galaxy Note 7, and comparing it to the Unit I received it from MWC.
I Showcase for you the evolution of the Gear VR from the Innovator to the new Type C version.

If you want to run any Cardboard Apps and Games on Samsung Gear VR (WITHOUT ROOT), there is a tool on "Google Play", it name "Play Cardboard apps on Gear VR", work well on my S7

Yeah, that's right
You don't want to play Cardboard Apps on Gear VR, the lag is so terrible it will be a very bad experience. Either wait for an app that allows you to use the advanced accelerometer sensor from the Gear VR, or buy a phone next year ready for Daydream (which will also work wonders with Cardboard).

A better comparison should have been for s6 with s6 innovator. Are the upgrades on 2016 gear vr worth losing usb passthrough fan for ventilation and deluxe padding?

Have you noticed the image distortion on the sides?? This hasn't been an issue with the 2015 Gear VR... I hope Samsung has solved that issue since last year... Thanks in advance for any feedback! :-)
+Bence Kovács for me i did not notice it really, as I use it with the s7 edge and soon with the S8 plus. If it there it's super minor that it's not an issue.

if i download my vr games then if i pick any game i want then i put it on the gear vr then put it on does the two screens will combine into one screen
No demonstration on how the Note 7 is inserted or did I miss that?
I have this new unit with Note 7, (my first VR) and it took me days to figure out how to use it as a cardboard viewer without the Oculus software kicking in. You should mention the apps needed etc. Also still no digital/optical eye spacing adjustment which is unfortunate and causes a lot of eye strain if your eyes are too wide/close to each other. Overall, it's quite fun even for adults!

What they don't tell you about the gear vr is that Its insanely pixilated. I really hope they get a display upgrade soon. Either a 4k phone or for 4k screens in the actual head set. That would make things actually look real. Which would obviously be a game changer for the industry.
The interesting thing for me is that the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift - top end devices of course - are lower resolution than the 2560x1440 of these phones!
Steve Lane Really geeze? If it's worse then the phones resolution wise then thats a big problem. The graphics must be crazy bad.
+Dom Jenkins yeah... it's 2160x1200, so as ypu're saying, hardly perfect. It will probably be amazing at 4k, but 4k at 90hz will be a big ask!
to add - couldn't agree more with what you're saying about 4k though and it being a very big deal! It's probably when I'll remortgage the house and buy into VR.:)

I have never connected it to my PC, but yes the new model offers power connection.
How about seeing the pixels!? You haven't really mentioned anything about that. I'm assuming there is still the pixel density problem as the new note 7 has the same screen resolution as the note 4. Unless they have somehow tweaked with the lenses and made the screen look less pixelated!

Does it still have the "screen door" effect?
We didn't get a bump up in screen resolution with the Note 5, so the SDE will remain an issue. Not sure how much time you've spent with the headset, but my experience has been that, while the screen door effect is very noticeable at first, my brain is able to zone it out after a few minutes of use.
Can you see any visual differences with the S8 and S8+?
I love the bigger battery and screen on the S8+ is bigger and I find to be more impressive

+Adnan's Pro's the note 7 did work with it, the S8 should work, but cannot be 100% on the S8 plus.

When mounting your phone into the new VR Gear, I can see the usb connector being place under allot of stress. That hinge is not a good idea.

No sorry the adapter will not fit the phone. You would need the new gear vr.

No it won't because of the frame. It has to fit the frame for it to lock in.

you can plug it in, but only cardboard would work for you.

The note FE is the note 7 so it does support it
S7 or Note 7, which would be better for the new Gear VR? if any.
Both will perform the same really. Same Internals. Might be a little better on the note 7 since the screen is bigger.
my s6 edge use to overheat while using the vr so I took the vr back. Does the note 7 overheat in the note vr?
the heat management got better with the note 5 and while you can play for a long time. I did not get the heat warning after 35 minutes of play. I have not tried to play longer but because its uncovered it should be better.

I trued that and thing happens. you can plus in the OP3 you you will need to use Google Cardboard to play games.

Yes it does, but as the video explains this one has better ventilation.
Can i know why you put your glasses on? the vr dosent work with glasses? im almost blind. i need my glasses on all the time. can i use with vr?
near/far sight? im near sighted, always take my glasses off for vr, they arent neccesary and get in the way.
F.Y.I the note 4 can work on the new one because you can change the charging port from USB type C to the older charging port.
can I plug in headphones while using the gear vr and if so how much space do I have to plug it in because my beyerdynamic dt770s have a huge jack. otherwise I'll just use the included Samsung earphones
you can plug them but the plug as you mentioned is bigger and you might have to use an extension. ( a short one just make the phone fit correctly)

if you have a really good installation on it then no, you should not be any issues
Screen protectors are easier to scratch than your phone screen, that means all the micro scratches will make the experience a little more blurry than a phone without one. Generally speaking, this will not really affect the experience in a way that matters, unless you put keys in the same pocket as your phone.

the question is how many games that we can play with gear VR??
they havr so many games that I cannot list them here. in the app they have pages and pages of apps and games. not all free but a lot.
I noticed a slight DECREASE of FOV wih the new Gear VR (Blue). I got both Gear VR versions and the FOV is higher with the old one. I can only say this for the Galaxy S6 and S7. Maybe the new Gear VR is optimized for the bigger screen phones as the Note 7.
The lower FOV is a real downsight for me. I used a cheap workaround to get at least the FOV values of the old Gear ... I go rid of he padding so my eyes are nearer to the lenses ...
Did anyone of you compare the White Gear VR with the new black one? What is your experience with the FOV?
Are you sure your phone holder in the Gear VR is in the B position for the S6 and S7?
Yes Position is correct. I found Out what the Problem is. my Eyes are too far away from the lenses due to the new shape of the new gear VR. I solved the problem by taking away the original thick padding. replacing it by a thinner one. now I can nearly see the far edges of the phones display.
You could've used the wheel above the Gear VR for lenses proximity instead. For me, I found the further the lenses the better I see.
no the adjustment weel is not the Problem. it only adjusts the distance between the lenses and your phone - not the distance between eyes and lenses. what I talk about is not about focus it's about fov.
but as said - problem is solved!
As lenses get further from the phone, they get closer to your eyes because the device is static. This amplifies the effect even more. Removing the cushion can generate other problems, like skin grease making the lens dirty more often, small hairs falling on lenses, or fog. But if all your problems are solved, it's good.

@@TKBay the samsung technical support tolled me that the only version can work with the fe is the sm-324 " gear vr 2017 " and the sm-r323 " gear vr 2016 " will not work !!!!

Note 7 has USB-c, while all the other versions only have micro-USB
I will upgrade when it's 1080p. That's when it's Worthing the upgrade. Till then, I will keep the old version
