- Hi. in this video I am showing how to box in pipes using two methods and also 2 different materials : exterior plywood and plasterboard.
Plywood or moisture resistant plasterboard to use in a bathroom ,kitchen location, mdf or basic plasterboard everywhere else. - Jak na to + styl
What a great video! No waffle, clear and concise, can see exactly what you are doing. You've given me the confidence to do this now, thank you!
This is the best ever boxing of pipes video on YT. Believe me, I have checked!
Apart from he is suggesting using plasterboard ! ?? Why would anybody box pipes in plasterboard when it is at floor level like that?
@@lennywebb6740 He did not suggest anything, he said "if you want then this is how to do".
@@savashzaynal6502 Nobody in their right mind would box pipes at low level like that using plasterboard!
Maybe I should make a video on how to box pipes.
@@lennywebb6740 I hope you do, I'd be the first to watch it 👍
excellent video - no stupid stuff, no silly stories - straight to the point - good job
Absolutely everything I needed to know to get me started on this weekend's bathroom challenge. Thanks.
Super Video
No faffing about just pure and simple no nonsense instructions
Well Done.
thank you for this. This is absolutely the best video on CZcams for a boxing in pipes.
Thanks fella, you have given me the confidence to box my cloakroom pipes in - bravo!
Great channel! 💯
No messing, always straight forward, very clear and informative.
Thank you so much for sharing your awesome knowledge with us.
Take care,
Steve. 👍👍
Great video. I was thinking how I would tackle this on an upcoming project and not what I thought! So easy. Would never have thought of putting baton on back of a vertical plasterboard as opposed to building a complete frame first.
No extra rubbish, just a proper explanation - thank you.
Birdy
"But I can check the strength if you like" *dances on top of plasterboard*
That's the confidence you have if you're doing a decent job👍🏻
Thanks for this video - nice and clear. i have some boxing-in to do with a vertical pipe in the corner of my kitchen.
Top man, very competent makes it look simple and easy. Thanks.
best video to cover pipes in ceilings and floor-thank you !!
I was just about to say the plasterboard version would not be very strong - then you proved me totally wrong. What the hell do I know! Thanks for the video.
Fantastic video, I literally just boxed in a pipe, with plasterboard for £5... grabbed some ‘damaged’ sheets from the shop.
Superb! Myslalem zeby dac jeden wiecej baton pmiedzy gornym a dolnym coverem ale zeczywiscie one spoczna jeden na drugim i osczedam w ten sposob sporo materialu, tak samo nie potrzeba wtedy zebrowania pomiedzy, jeszcze raz superb! Good job!
Thanks, good advice and craftsmanship!
Thank you for taking the time to do this video. Great video :)
Helpful video, and excellent channel name! Thanks.
This video is great! THANK YOU 🙏💖
ty ! exactly what I needed , great stuff mate !
Many thanks your Video is just what I was looking for ! You make it look easy
Brilliant mate... I'm new to all this but these videos are great.....Many thanks !!!
Fabulous welldone we are in middle of bathroom makeover and now I know how to box in thankyou.
All I am saying this guy deserve more likes
Love the strength check at the end ;) 💪
bravo , you just saved me lot of money !!!! top man
that was just what i was looking for no bullshit just straight to it an made everything look so obvious and easy
I was taught to make boxing removable so access needs no tears from the customer. We would tile the boxing and then fix it with a thin bead of silicon. Water proof, strong and removed in seconds if needed.
Exactly what i was thinking Andrew
Andrew Millward I agree... but don’t know how to do that or find a video that shows me, or even written instructions. Are you able to advise please?
@@7tracey7 +1, it is amazing how much building work is done without thought to long-term maintenance, so any such guidance is great.
@@aliasgharkhoyee8911
I suppose all these pipes are plastic and fairly maintenance free... No valves or taps to need access too.
@@harwoods11 Most of the time, yes, but when issues do come up (say a pipe was drilled into) having easy access can save valuable time and not involve breakage.
Great video! Helped me alot!
Well Done! Really helpful. Cheers
Thank you for showing us how to do this.
Excellent video - thanks for sharing
Well done great video I have now subscribed after watching your 1st video.
I like how he checked for level after he put all the fixings in lol
A job done properly is worth admiring, I always do the same
loved the video.
Great job! Wish you were near me.

Lovely work that is mate!!!
Thank you for your help god bless
Fantastic
Thanks for your great work.
Nice one love the vids
Helpful tips...thanks
Thanks so much , I have just tried boxing pipes which go around the top of my walls in a small hallway 😳4 pipes 2 for central heating and 2 for hot and cold water . So I thought polystyrene would be good idea as I have loads cut it all 😳what a mess lol, then tried to glue it all together
... apparently you need a type of glu for this that I don't have 😤. So I'm doing plan B tomorrow your way
Really useful video thank you
Good job, useful video thanks
Grear video thanks!!!
Well that looks easy enough.
Yes good advice on this video
Thank you. I've subscribed as well.. A great video and a great channel.
Love the little dance at the end
excellent video well explained
Thank you!!
Good video,, thanks
Great video
Subscribed just for the channel name - excellent
Good video mate!
Great video thanks so much
thanks. Very nice
I follow your channel because you always have real life scenarios unlike some channels that are always in a "studio" with perfect access and surrounds.
This is perfect access 😂😂😂
Good job thank u
Good video thanks. If I built something like this but in a garage where boiler / radiator pipes and potentially some cooker cable were, would you say it's okay to fill the voids with insulation? If so what type? Thanks.
Straightforward how-to although I think I’d prefer MRMDF to plywood but minor point really
Good man.Thnx very much Sir
Fantastic video
Thanks great video im stuck with mine in the corner where the pipes go higher.
Well done mate
Thanks
Thank you. It does not look difficult to build on the floor but I have to do exactly this for pipe close to the ceiling: fighting against gravity.
Can I ask how you got on? Did you do the same as this, but at the ceiling? Or something different? I have the same job that I need to do, box around vent ducting near the ceiling. Thanks.
Good video thank you
Great video, but id put supports between the two tops battons, if that moves your plaster will crack.
Nice job
Thank you 👍🏼
That's spot on mate, thank you! just one thing i cannot understand why 97 idiots have disliked your video I've subscribed keep up the good work.
Good job
1:34 , I tried this and drilled right through my knee-cap !
Safety third!
Thank you
Dear builders/plumbers - why do you save pennies on pipe insulation?
Thanks for the video, just a question from someone with zero DIY skills looking to learn. Once you've boxed the pipes off would you place a wall frame on top of that if you wanted to make sure the wall was straight. Thanks for any advice
nice video
What are those you hammered into wood on wall, and would you use wall plugs if attaching to concrete floor?
Easily explained. What are you using to fix the batton to the back wall?? Wall plug is it??
Nicely done but I would probably go with 18mm battens and 12mm marine grade play to make the boxed in section smaller. If the floor batten had been fixed before the waste pipe it could potentially be smaller still. Just thinking out loud, not criticising 👍
I think the main problem would be driving the screws in. My M12 hammer drill is pretty small and it's still 50mm across. The screws would end up crooked
Thank you bro
I got the same DBZ hoodie with goku's symbol 💪
Super
Thanks 👍
Next step - how to hide that mdf plywood step :)
What does one do at the corners and where the pipes separate from parallel?
Hi Great Vid, going to give it a go this weekend. Any reason you used the nails in the batons rather than screws and plugs, just curious how you would take them off of you needed to?
Andy Coyne that’s how cowboys plug the walls with screws. Hit them in the plug opens the jaws - job done, forget about taking them out ( not my job attitude) 🤨
You can tap them for installing and unscrew them for removing. Special screw+plug. That srew has special assymetric thread that allows you installing with hammer. Nothing wrong with them if you have brick or concrete wall.
I want to know what drill you are using with the helpful light.
what screws are you hammering in at the start?, do they not need to be screwed in?, also what is the cheapest method of the 2?
👍
hi great vid. any chance you can do a vid on boxing a pipe going up and down a wall please? many thanks
Hi. with vertical box in pipes . Just do the same steps as horizontal. Cheers
Technique wise well done and clearly explained but if the top wall batten was the full width of the box there would be no need for extra ply on top. The floor batten looks to be set out twice the width of the waste pipe, wasting space.
I would never box pipes in with plasterboard at floor level and at aprox 150mm high 6mm ply would be perfectly strong enough, 18mm is way over the top.
What kind of screws are best for attaching the wooden batons to a plasterboard wall?
Find the studs behind plasterboard and attach to them through plasterboard. Or cut-open the bottom part of plasterboard and fit the pipes behind if possible.
I have a question when u measure the first panel are you measuring up to the baton on the wall or up to the pipes please explain
measure to the TOP of the baton on the wall. That way the vertical piece you cut is the same height as the top of the wall batton. hope this helps.
