If you were raised on country classic music from 60s and 70s then you definitely knew about Johnny Paycheck. If you just moderately like country music and knew Cash, Jones and Haggard (the mainstream names) then you wouldn't know who Johnny was.
My brother Harold Riley played with Paychek in Vegas and about the only thing he said about him was "Don't ever loan him money" and "he had bad breath". You can see Haggard's reaction while he was singing with him.
