    This video is what I've been saying about ORAS for years. They are great remakes and make for the definitive Hoenn experience. I feel like people crap on it because there is no Battle Frontier which, while I agree its removal was stupid, doesn't make this a terrible game. I just don't understand why the other Emerald locations like the Mirage Tower, Desert Underpass, Faraway Island, Navel Rock, and Trainer Hill don't make a return. The excuse that these are Ruby and Sapphire remakes and not Emerald remakes hold no real ground. I also wish the gym leaders had their Emerald teams as well, boosting its difficulty.

    Can we just take a moment to appreciate Wally having his Ralts evolve into Gallade? Not only is it the introduction that show that ORAS does not restraint itself to being a gen 3 remake and not pretend that gen 4-6 don't exist until postgame, but is a great symbolism for Wally's character. Wally, a frail boy who has everything given due to pitying his frail nature. Ralts, a frail boy like pokemon who's only knows growl so requires to support of other pokemon to survive. Both of them going on an adventure to become stronger to stand on their own. Wally become someone as worthy to become your rival, as the Ralts becomes a superhero instead of the princess-like (something that can be proceed as a damsel in distress) pokemon.

      @tomnorton4277 Před 10 měsíci +6

      In a way, I kind of miss Wally's Gardevoir. Gallade is more fitting but maybe they should have made his evolution version exclusive so that we could see him with both. Wally using Mega Gallade in Omega Ruby and Mega Gardevoir in Alpha Sapphire would be another way of differentiating the games.

      @Votris11 Před 9 měsíci +3

      @c0mpu73rguy So? This is a remake that acknowledges the existence of Gen that comes after it. In universe, Gallade doesn't suddenly not exist in Honen because of the Meta reason because Gallade wasn't created during the creation of Gen 3. It makes more sense than Golbat can't evolve from friendship because Crobat didn't exist when Gen 1 was made. It is one thing I like more than the other remakes.

    • @teo2805
      @teo2805 Před 8 měsíci +2

      They should have done this but only because Audrey Hepburn has Gardevoir and Mega Gardevoir as her ace, so they couldn't repeat. Gardevoir is perfectly fine as rendering him a sensitive boy but with his own resolve. In Japanese, Gardevoir is called "She Knight" so despite the feminine body shape, the Pokémon is still a good way to describe Wally. Keep in mind GameFreak never gender-locked Gardevoir even if the evolved versions of Ralts are very feminine.

    • @zjzr08
      @zjzr08 Před 7 měsíci +3

      @c0mpu73rguy ORAS was supposedly in a dimension where the events of XY (where Gen 1-6 Pokemon are already known) happened at the same time so it makes sense why these evos are part of the regional dex now (and why references like Rotom can exist) - it isn't like FRLG and HGSS which felt more like retcons to the original releases IMO.

    In defense of Zinnia, she may look like a jerk, but from her perspective, everyone else is willing to commit mass murder on a parallel world. You’d likely be a jerk too if you though billions of people might be killed without even having a chance fo fight for themselves. At least in the ORAS world, everyone knows about the threat and can take action.

    • @chase86903

      Huh, never thought about it like that before

    • @tomnorton4277
      @tomnorton4277 Před 2 lety +39

      Zinnia strikes me as a rather machiavellian character. She meant well but she was in hiding throughout the entirety of the main story and only showed her hand in the Delta Episode. I feel like she was doing a lot behind the scenes, manipulating events and people to her advantage and she hides it behind a cheerful and friendly persona. If she were better written, she could have been fascinating. Kind of a "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" character.
      As it stands, Courtney's easily my favourite character in ORAS. I'm autistic and clearly Courtney is too. I don't know if that was intentional but that's how the character ended up. In fact, it's obvious that she's on a more extreme part of the autism spectrum than I am. I also appreciate that they didn't rely on tokenism with Courtney and were willing to make an autistic character a villain who went so bonkers that she tried to bring a meteor crashing down on the world. That's a shitty thing to do and they didn't use Courtney's autism as an excuse. When Tabitha exploded at her and demanded that she apologise to Maxie, he was completely justified. She knew what she was doing but was simply past the point of caring because she couldn't deal with the emotions that manifested from the realisation that she'd dedicated her life to a fundamentally flawed cause. Autistic people tend to be kind of infantilized and treated with kids gloves but we can be arseholes too and I like that ORAS didn't shy away from that.
      I think a character who could have been interesting if the games had bothered to give her any story was Lisia. Unfortunately, she was just kind of there and didn't contribute anything. If you're not interested in Pokemon contests, you have no reason to interact with her at all, aside from when she's first introduced in Slateport which was necessary to continue the game.

      I think oras is a trash remake just because it doesn’t even acknowledge emerald and removes a lot of the things that made emerald special, I can say the same thing about bdsp, bdsp essentially removes everything that made platinum better like the battle frontier. @@WheelStart even without the exp share the game is still rediculously easy, at times the game felt very tedious due to huge sudden random explosive spikes in difficulty since the game was primarily designed around the usage of the exp share making it hard in some areas and a lot easier in others and without the use the exp share the game can get a bit tedious because the game was not designed around keeping the exp share off. Same can be said about any of the 3Ds titles, the game in the 3ds titles were specifically designed around the usage of the exp share making it bit tedious if you choose not to use it, especially since each npc trainer catches up higher levels the further you progress and your Pokémon will be vastly underleveled if you do not use the exp share prompting me to actually have to turn it on and off at times to be at the appropriate level without overleveling my Pokémon or severely underleveling them. Pokémon games should be designed around not having the exp share, the exp share should be an option for those who want an easier experience but the entire structure of a Pokémon game should be based around not using it and if they are going to force us to use the exp share then they have to balance it out and nerf the exp share which they haven’t done in oras neither do we have an indication to believe that it’s being done in bdsp. The reason i can play the older Ds and game boy titles perfectly fine is because the older games were never designed around the usage of a broken exp share system making it easier to grind the appropriate level and fight the npc while keep it challenging enough. Modern games are designed around the exp share, if you choose not to use the exp share then the game punishes you for not using it but if you choose to use it then it also punishes you by making the game a breeze to play through.

It has almost everything that I enjoy out of the series, including the nostalgia of the Hoenn Region and its amazing soundtrack, one of the best selections of Pokemon in the franchise, abundance of secrets and Legendarys to catch, a much improved Secret Base creator with online interactivity, Soaring, Mega Evolutions, and a more fleshed out story and epic battles, including one of the best Champions of them all, and the incredible final moments of the Delta Episode. ORAS has it all (except the Battle Frontier, but it doesn't really bother me all that much, despite what big a deal the ever-toxic fan base would have you believe). I have never seen such a detailed essay about these games. I totally agree with your opinion and also started as a kid with gen 3 and 4. ORAS brought all my friends back to Pokémon in our teenage years because it caught the feeling of past times. I think it levels the games perfectly to modern standards and graphics. The improvements it made to the originals are welcomed. To me it is disappointing that gamefreak ignores third games when remaking a generation. The battle frontier was *THE* reason to play Pokémon post game but battle maison was just a cheap x y rip off. One thing I haven’t noticed or I didn’t realise you’ve talked about is safari zone. Bdsp will be the first modern game since HG/SS to include Safari zone. to me it was not the biggest deal of it being missing from ORAS but it would’ve been a welcomed inclusion. In regard of Bdsp being released in a month I am not very hyped for the games. I liked the games as a kid because me and my friends could play the games with a wireless connection on the go everywhere. And everyone had these games even kids who wrent into Pokémon before had the game. I was also playing Pokémon battle revolution which was the only way back then to battle with 3d graphics. We imagined Pokémon to be like that as a standard in 10 years. Now we have 3d Pokémon for several years and it isn’t something new anymore. Also the fact that these games will only be 1 on 1 remasters worries me a bit. Game freak never did one on one remasters, every remake had some improvements and unique features over its original counterparts (I know about underground but is it that of an improvement?). I hope that they will do some special post game thing like Sevii islands. Edit: I should also add that no Battle Frontier also didn´t distraught me as much as I enjoy exploration and catching in Pokemon, and ORAS added new mirage spots and islands to explore, get items, and catch non Hoenn-dex Pokemon
    Edit: I do think HGSS, along with ORAS added character to npcs like gym leaders as we got to see more of them in the post game, with getting all of their phone numbers, seeing them interact with each other when you get their number, such as with Jasmine & Erika, or Falkner & Janine, as well as you calling them, and them calling you back. For ORAS, I never seen this yet but apparently Roxanne hangs out with Steven in a cave, I also remember Flannery talking about Heatran from outside the cave it´s ring resides in.

    These was my first real Pokemon experience. I have a lot of fondness for this game and still hold it very close to me but man I've really come to terms with it's problems
    7.8/10 is a valid critique brought down by awful wording. The fact the land routes are so interesting meanwhile all the water feels repetitive and boring is pretty unfortunate especially considering they take up half the region.
    I cannot tell you how many times I've heard the stupid "this is a remake of RS not E" excuse for the lack of Emerald content. Yes, stuff from RS should stay the same like Steven being Champion. But why in the world are we stuck with Wattson's and the Psychic twins's terrible RS teams and no Battle Frontier. We're just keeping out good features for "authenticity" which is stupid.
    Don't even get me started on the Delta Episode. I hate Zinnia, the multiple universe stuff was dumb and poorly implented especially with later installments and it only got good in it's last 10 minutes.
    StillI love these games an the Hoenn region. I hold a great respect for them even today. Pretty good remakes.

    Omega Ruby remains the only pokemon game to this day, in which I completed the national dex (except for Hoopa which came out after I was finished).
    The details made the game crazy good. For example if you had surf on a sharpedo, you'd actually ride a sharpedo and be faster than normal.
    DexNav was also an insane feature. Not only for breeding, but also for collecting, because it actually showed you, when you had every pokemon on a certain route.
    The criticism of too much water is something, I don't get. Thematically it makes sense to have a region, where sea and land are relatively balanced. And I think you can't criticise a remake for mapdesign choices of the game they remake.

However, it can be argued that Lusamine had a redemption arc; in other words, I believe your statement on Archie and Maxie being the only villains to have a redemption arc is more your opinion than anything else, yet you said it like a fact.

      @@blur8163 yes, although, I can see most of his opinions as valid. I personally really like Alola, it’s one of the only games I still haven’t lost for my 3ds, but I’m not blind to it’s flaws.

    Honestly ORAS was where I picked up again after dropping Pokemon after the first dexit. ORAS when using the flute was so much better than using an hm slave.

    You are right. I recently played through it again (and it's the reason why I played Pokemon in the first place) and it is 100 times better the BDSP will ever be

    I like ORAS better than Emerald. I didn’t know at the time that i played it (2016) that people didn’t feel that way. I think the only meaningful missing feature is the battle frontier. And yes, that sucks. But i dont know the rest of ORAS is seriously a massive step up for me. The post game is amazing, the Delta Episode? Come the fuck on. Riding Rayquaza up into space to fight Deoxys? That was fucking insane.

    Some more bad thing from ORAS you forgot to mention: nerfing Rock Tunnel in Dewford and Sky Pillar, reduced content Trick Master, and make Safari Zone bland as a regular route

      Safari zone was turned into a normal route as you don't even have too pay or get too use safari zone mechanics

    It might not been my first Pokemon game. But I never got bored and restarted the game. I did restart it to try a different team and another for a better rayquaza and 90 soft reset attempts for shiny mudkip (gave up didn't have the patience or the attention to do it ADHD) I love this game for the pacing and the credits. Trust me when I say I watch it once but never again. For oras I watch it every time which kinda says something from my perspective at least. They also brought my two favorite Megas Rayray and fluffy puff the dragon sweeper. ( both are obvious nicknames but if you don't see it then ill tell you it's Rayquaza and altaria)
    Altaria getting a mega was great you could finally show the ignorant people who say altaria don't deserve it's dragon typing by sweeping them out of existence. Shiny mega altaria is solid gold literally.
    Do I even need to say anything about mega rayquaza and that 780 stat total only beaten by plot garbage.

    As someone who played Gen 1 & 2 and the skipped R&S to barely play through Emerald before taking a long break until X & Y; I have to say I absolutely loved playing ORAS. Maybe just because it had been so long since playing Gen 3 and Pokémon in general that I didn't notice missing content. But this was one of the first times in a long time that I had played a Pokémon game so extensively.

    May be 2 years late but I will say that to this very day, ORAS still remains my favourite additions. And despite how short the story was (should've been longer), I absolutely loved the Delta Episode! Was the same moment Rayquaza became my favourite Legendary of all time! Then the battle in SPACE with Deoxys?! Might charge up the 3ds and play AS again. Though I will say that Zinnia needs to appear more! Felt like she was thrown aside entirely once the episode came to an end...
