Cute little detail, Mr. Ping (Po’s goose dad) now sells tofu at the restaurant after Po accomplished his dreams of becoming a kung fu warrior because back in the first movie he said making tofu was just a silly dream of his. It’s nice.

Fun side note: there's a short Kung Fu Panda movie called Secrets of the Furious Five which reveals the backstories of the Five. Tigress got left at an orphanage where she was isolated because she couldn't control her strength or temper. When Po is explaining that Shen was there when he last saw his parents and that he needs to know what happened, Tigress was likely also imagining herself in the same spot. That's why she hugs him: she empathizes with him more than anyone else could, but she also has to deny him the answers he (they) wants in order to save his life.

Some sad history behind the wolves: Shen was the only who treated them with respect and kindness, and they were the palace guards. Hence why they were so loyal to him.

Shen is one of the best antagonist i've ever seen. Not only design-wise (cuz no way making a freaking Peacock badass is not cool) but also story-wise. He's so deep, and his relation with Po is so well-written, kinda funny and somewhat very impacting, again the fight scenes are very Badass, thx to the choregraphy & the music.
    (In case you haven't realized)
Shen in a sense is a spoiled brat, an eternal dissatisfied person (because of his albinism but that's not the main conflict), despite the fact that he understood on his own, during the final fight (the one before his death , with the armada) that he will never be able to defeat Po... In any case Shen is fighting against the destiny that he himself built, a circle of hatred that won't stop till his death.Yet, deep down, rooted in his subconscious, Shen has always rejected the idea of facing failure. For me the last scene between Shen & the Soothsayer represents this well, he is in an emotional abyss, therefore more suited to a character turnaround, to a redemption arc. For me, this scene is an indirect admission by Shen. Like, I think in this scene, he still has the nastiness and the rage to defeat Po, but he knows despite everything that she may be right. And despite the fact that his destiny is all mapped out : Po or Shen winner, one of the 2 will die. He continues, his head held high towards his tragic destiny, which is why, for him, she is no longer useful, she no longer has anything to predict according to him. It's the scene where he seems more apt for a redemption arc, and this for me is represented by the abandonment of the goat, she was the only one who kept him ever so slightly, towards the light. But he let her go of her own free will. Moreover, an interesting point in terms of psychology is that unhappy people (like suicide level) tend to want to share their unhappiness, to want to share as much suffering and pain as possible with those close to them or even with the world. It's exactly the same for Shen. Whether it goes from the simple mistreatment of minions, to the invasion of entire China, he perceives this quest for power as a means to vent his rage on someone or something. Which contrasts well with Po's extremely jovial appearance. In any case, I think we can say that i like this character !
In fact this movie is my 2nd favorite animated movie, the 1st place is occupied by Rango, an hidden & lost Masterpiece which i deeply reccommend !

Another brilliant detail: the soothsayer tells Shen that he will be defeated by a warrior of black and white. Shen is a black and white warrior. His own decisions and inability to find peace is what destroys him. He and Po are both the prophecy and Shen doesn’t even realize it.

To piggy back off this, when Po’s dad hit one of the wolves, it scarred and blinded one of its eyes. We later see Shen’s right hand wolf with an eye patch, it’s heavily implied (I don’t know if it was confirmed) it was Shen’s right hand wolf who got injured by Po’s father.

The thing I love most about Po is how no matter how strong and famed he becomes, he's still got that inner fanboy and pure love for kung-fu. And Shen is my favorite of the trilogies villains. He's very complex and in the end, accepts his death because he probably knows he's gone to far down the wrong path.

The warrior of black and white is actually Shen himself. The prophecy says that had he continued his dangerous path of manufacturing dangerous weapon, it will lead to his defeat.
To add up to this, the prophecy says defeat, not die. He was defeated by getting his ship blown up by his own canon ball, which Po tossed. Had he accepted his fate, he would have lived and perhaps have a final chance. But he thought that simply accepting defeat and moving on with his life would make the lives he took in vain, so he either had to succeed or die. You can see that once he cut the ropes in the final fight, it was an attempt at him ending himself and taking Po down with him, finally he accepted death and found his inner peace once the canon fell.

The movies so far really do a good job of showing his character development along with the rest of the cast.
The main difference and similarity I see in villains like Tai Lung and Shen is how the former is an enclosed event yet hes so distant to Po, whereas the latter is greatly increase in the scope of his actions, yet it feels a lot more personal.

As much as I enjoyed your reactions to this gorgeous film, I will have to say one thing; Sorry but you guys are completely wrong about Shen. He is definitely a stronger villain that Tai Lung primarily for the reason that he is directly responsible to the events of Po's life. In that he is literally the one that put Po on the path of becoming the Dragon Warrior in the first place. He's more emotionality exposed and compromised than he let's on in that while he may seem spoiled, it's because he really has nothing left going for him. Deep down he knows he can't change his fate and conquering China is his big goal because, what else does he have left? He's very broken and a very tragic character. I am actually very surprised you two didn't catch that, especially when he had his final scene with Soothsayer.
I think it's unfortunate that you didn't see how deep of a character Shen actually is. He is undisputedly the best written villain in Kung Fu Panda

And we even can see how both Shen and Po did not have the best beginning of their stories, but by choosing different paths they each reached a different ending. Shen’s led him to his demise; Po’s led him back home to his family.
