This has been happening for a long time ago, so I made a video about this issue to bring some awareness. Hacking avatar and world maps harms tremendous damage to the creators. Hackers rip off creation which creators spent weeks, even months to make. It steals their passion for creation, and even worse, there are many cases where hackers claims it as their "own creation". The method for hacking into avatar data is not very hard to find, in fact there are even some online videos demonstrating how to rip off avatars. The developers are remaining silent about this issue, and working on other stuff as if this is not a serious matter. So the ones who were stealing are now shamelessly saying "ripping off avatar is allowed" just because it is not prohibited by system. I want everyone to be aware about this, and know that this behavior is NOT right. If you know or find anyone who are doing it, tell them to STOP.
VR Chat is not a competitive game such as other FPS games, but also it is creator's passion which makes the game experience. We need to put a stop of this theft not only stealing creation but also creator's passion. It is a solemn fact that ripping off avatar using third-party programs and such is a hacking.

the point, we don't know how to stop ripper, also know it's hard problem, I think it's important to let more people know and raise awareness. It's not important to report a ripper, but when people see a ripper, I think we need to create an environment where people around us can criticize him, saying, "Oh, he's a bad." So that normal users can know.
also, If you've ever been rip, please let everyone know. It's really sad what you've been through, but I think it would be good for people to be alert if everyone knows. More people could report it, and it could create a bad image for the ripper. I think it will be good for the future.

all your collaboration videos with other vrchat users that are showing cool animation with you moon make them private for now. and for future proof DO NOT COLLAB to other people that has good animation, even if you did, dont show it to the internet to prevent them being ripped. that way rippers wont see something interesting from your video. apparently they are taking some notes on your video.
Artists, Animators, Game designers, Modelers, Avatar creator, everyone has one big problem in common. Which are the thieves that takes our creations.
Taking other people's work and claiming it as their own , How lazy and down low you need to be to become one of these kinds of people? Its just stupidly hilarious.
I love VRChat, made lots of friends there and I mostly use public avatars. I plan to make my own legit avatar soon but seeing this problem arise just..demotivates me.
I hope this problem will be looked into by the game devs in VRC.

As an artist, I have a feeling as to why people take the creations of others. The first reason is that why pay for something when it can be free, legally or otherwise. This also ties into my second reason in that turning to thievery is a coping mechanism for someone’s lack of creativity and just pure envy. For example, I’ve seen Moon’s old avatar in multiple colors. And what Moon has done (if I’m correct) is that he took a public avatar and through memes and funny videos, truly made what was once public his own. Everyone in the creation community has to start somewhere. A tree cannot grow in a single day, it starts as a seed and needs fresh soil, water and sunshine. CZcams makes us think we can be celebrities overnight, but that’s an intoxicating half-truth. Another thing is that nobody likes being deemed a ripoff because your content resembles something else. Any of you remember how many people decided to review games like the Angry Video Game Nerd? There was quite possibly a lot, and I firmly believe that the Super Gaming Bros. were a part of that wake. The point I’m trying to make is that it’s okay to have references and inspirations, it’s what YOU do with them that ultimately matters.

Yeah, this is becoming an increasing problem for me, too.
I'm a small avatar creator, not really known in the big part of VRChat.
I make avatars for fun, and I've recently slowed down because of this reason.
I've seen my avatars being ripped before, and people claiming that they made some of my models, and..
It's just been draining my self-esteem.
I know how this feels, and I just hope other creators like me won't have this happen to them.
I hope somebody takes action on this, because it is not ok.

아바타 제작자들에게 최소한의 보호가 필요한 시점이고 vrc 운영진들은 각성해야한다고 생각합니다

Actually, I haven't played VR Chat, but I've been watching moon's stream for a long time, so I heard about this issue through his streaming When I saw moon's avatar being used without permission, I felt the problem was very serious so I hope they come up with a solution to this problem as soon as possible

This video makes me wanna share some of my own experience in a short summary:
I'm an avatar animator in VRC. I've been around since 2017 and been around animators since i started playing VRChat. Avatar stealing really took off in 2018 and since then been a huge problem. I can't really talk for the others that was or still is in the community. The Avatar stealing was one of many big reasons animators stopped making animations, slowly but surely the animators in the community stopped doing animations. By 2020 almost every animator in the communities i was in had stopped. Relativly few people still animated. Of course it's other reasons to why people quit animating. A lot of it for many was the avatar stealing.
Of course what i did personally was a bit different. I decided to get better at animating and started improving. I had the mindset of. "Oh if they steal my stuff, they must like it!" and "If people wanna support me they ask me to buy it" I still have that chill mindset. I don't have the capacity to feel hate for anyone or for anything a person does. I also missed the animation community, the people, the showcases and just the general essence. I ended up creating RESTART! an animation group. I wanted to appeal animations for new people (If anyone reading this wondering, Yes it's still ish active. It still hosts events and animation showcases)
Nowdays the moment i press upload for an avatar in unity, in some hours my avatar with animations are yoinked. For me personally i prob won't stop creating animations for this game. I've kinda just accepted that stealing happens. for me my animations really depends. Sometimes i can end up only spending 5 - 10 hours, sometimes 3 - 6 months.
But in general i'm happy this is brought to life with moons video! I don't personally believe its anything the devs really can do. People will always find a way to get through sadly. I feel for most people they gave up since all the stealing and stuff and quit. I however gave up on caring for avatar stealing and kinda accepted it + if they steal it i know they like it :D If someone reads this. Thank you for your time :D

이건 vr챗 입장에서는 어쩔 수가 없는게 파일이 서버가 아니라 로컬이기 때문에 관리할 수가 없습니다.
파일이 로컬로 있는 것 부터가 해킹에 취약하다는 것입니다.
하지만 vr에서 계정삭제 같은 조취를 하지 않는 것은 이해가 안됩니다..

I hope you don't give up your goal for that. I have to avatars made and a third coming, I think it's fun, those hacker shur are a big turn of, but you don't have to let it stop you if your doing it for fun. The problem really comes when you do it professionally, cuz it really hurts the value of private avatar if people can just take it...
This is exactly why ripping is so bad and they don't understand that they are cucking themselves out of really cool avatar ideas etc. Cus people just don't wanna create. And then the exact same people will come around and say "VRC has no original content". No shit, most original people are to afraid to create cus it just gets stolen anyway.

Yea, no need to give up your goal. Even if VRChat doesn't solve this problem, NeosVR is a rising competitor, and there will likely be others as VR improves.
As a creator it hurts. The 100s of hours spent modelling from virtually nothing (I’m a scratch creator) even my personal models have been taken from me that I spent so much time on. It really rips your heart out when you see that your very personal avatars that you don’t leave private worlds with just get yoinked. Vrchat needs to fix this problem because a lot of creators are just going to stop creating if it keeps going. Without the content creators VRChat wouldn’t have content.
The issue is that so long as the model is being loaded onto the client of a hacker, they can rip it. If you add more hurdles for them to jump over, eventualy they will figure a way around that too, such is the case with hacking.
The only real solution I could think of is perhaps a way for the game to not show anyone your model at all, unless you manually whitelist that person. Doing this you can ensure only trusted parties get access to your data.
Another option is to exclusively make the game available on game streaming services like Stadia, so that all rendering is done in the streaming companies' servers and the clients need not get the model data themselves, but that is obviously a garbage solution.
If the rippers that sell the models are so stupid they include their real names n such in their accounts, you can opt to DMCA them for breaching your copyright. But lets be honest, even if you catch 2 out of the 500 rippers like this, you change nothing.
VRC could put a hidden logo or copyright inside the 3d model somewhere and update that as they go, then anyone caught uploading that without permission would be caught much more easily, and reuploads to VRC would be banned, and unbanning requiring pointing to the site they got it from if it wasn't theirs.
thats impossible since when u upload an avatar to vrchat it recieves an id that gets stored iv Vrchat's servers and this id is very easy to get, sinse it uses it to download the avatar and load it to you. if someone have the id of one of your avatars, they can just download all the files from the avatar, the only thing that they cant get are the shaders (by ripping)
but if u get just the id of an avatar u can do some stuff to upload that avatar exactly how it is to your account
and vrchat identifyes it as a completely different avatar
so probably the only way to fix all that shit would be remaking the entire avatar sistem, something that they r not gonna do cuz the moderation of this game is shit
He might not speak good English but I can still understand this whole problem. Ripping avatars is like pirating games, it's illegal. Hopefully Luna gets what he deserves and that vrchat upgrades their security system so we can not have to worry about this anymore. Poor Luna :( (edit: said she instead of he oop)

so to protect avatars we need to use stuff like Anti-Rippers
but just like pirated games, someone will find a way around, its just a matter of time
Don't worry about mis-gendering someone, there are bigger issues than that to worry about.
You have no concept of pirating games or legality if you think ripping VRChat models is illegal.
The most legal precedence behind it is possibly being against the ToS, which can result in an account removal.
Pirating videogames, however, is a victimless action that doesn't actually affect anyone. Anyone that says otherwise is usually a naiive child who falls for corporate propaganda.

이 모더분들 중에서는 정말 무에서 유를 창조하시는 분들이 있습니다. 아무것도 없는 상황에서 본인이 3D 모델을 3D 프로그램으로 만들고
텍스쳐 맵핑(아바타 소스)도 직접 제작하고 그렇게 제로에서 시작해서 작품을 완성시키시는 분들이 있죠. 이런 모더분들이 만든 작품은
제작자인 당사자께 저작권이 있으니 판매를 하셔도 되고 또 이런 모더분들의 작품을 해킹해서 훔쳐가는 행위는 당연히 범죄나 마찬가지입니다.
여기까진 월향님이 말씀하시는 내용 그대로입니다. 하지만 지금부터 월향님이 말씀하지 않은 부분을 말해보겠습니다.
일부 모더들중에서는 실제로 저작권이 따로 있는, 실제로 운영되고 있거나 운영되었던 타 게임회사의 소스들을 아무 값도 치루지 않고 허락도 안 받고
다운받아서 VR챗에 이식해 넣는 작업만을 하시는 모더분들이 있습니다. 실제로 이런 모더분들이 제법 있습니다.
허락을 받고 만들었는지 아니면 몰래 가져와서 작업을 하셨는지는 모르겠지만 VR챗에서 보면 다른 게임 회사의 소스임을 알아볼 수 있던 적이 자주 있었습니다.
그리고 또한 이렇게 다른 소스를 가지고 VR챗에 집어넣고 자신이 만든 것이라고 자랑스럽게 말하고 다니거나 판매까지 하시는 분들도 있었습니다.
아니면 의뢰를 받아서 다른 게임에서 언패킹해서 가져와서 작업하고 댓가로 비용을 받기도 하지요.
물론 이식하는 포팅 작업이 결코 쉬운 작업은 아닙니다. 하지만 게임 개발진이 힘들게 만든 지적 재산을 허락없이 가져가서 출처도 알리지 않은채로
자신이 모든걸 만든 것인 마냥 자랑하는 모더분들은 해킹범들에게 자신이 만든 모드를 도둑질 당해도 하소연하기는 힘드실겁니다.
왜냐하면 본인이 다른 소스를 허락없이 가져가서 모드를 만들었고 그런 모드를 허락없이 해커가 훔쳐갔으니 어찌보면 똑같은 일이 서로 겹쳐버린셈이죠.
솔직히 말씀드려서 이런 문제는 VR챗의 문제뿐이 아닙니다. 스카이림과 폴아웃이란 게임에서도 마찬가지죠.
BZW라는 모더는 타 게임회사의 게임 소스를 그대로 훔쳐와 포팅 작업만 한 후에 실제로 패트리온으로 수익을 벌어들이며 모드를 공개해주고 있습니다.
게임 회사에서 제로에서부터 소스를 만드는 개발진들 시선에는 가져간 소스로 아바타나 효과들을 만들고 자랑하는 사람이 우스꽝스러워 보일 수 밖에 없습니다.
"그게 사실이라면 실제 게임 회사에서 고소하거나 판매 못하게 진작 움직였겠지"라고 생각하실 수도 있는데 실제 게임 회사들에서는 이런 2차 가공에 대해
공식적으로는 허가하지 않지만 비공식적으로는 그냥 눈감아주고 가만 놔두는 추세입니다. 대형 게임 회사가 이런 작은 모더를 고소하는 것도 모양이 빠지니까요.
만약 여러분들이 실제로 훔쳐온 소스로 모드를 만든 모더를 발견하신다면 신고해보세요.
민감하게 대처하는 게임 회사라면 신고를 넣으면 실제로 "배포중인 모드를 중단하라"는 통지를 해당 모더에게 보내는 경우도 있습니다.
실제 게임 소스를 가져와서 만들지 않고 단지 캐릭터 디자인이나 게임 전체의 디자인만 가져와서 제작해도 제작중단 통지를 보내는 일도 있습니다.
크로노 트리거의 팬게임을 제로에서부터 소스를 만들면서 제작하는데 스퀘어에닉스에게 제작 중단 통지를 받았죠.
보통은 모더들이 자신이 만든 모드를 판매하지 않고 좋은 의미로 공유하고자 만들었다며 배포를 하는 경우가 많기 때문에 게임 회사에서도
그냥 놔두는 경우가 많지만 모드를 판매해서 수익을 계속 남긴다면 게임 회사에서도 가만 놔두지는 않을겁니다.
아바타를 도둑맞는 실태에 대해서 알려주는 영상에 이런 말을 해서 죄송하지만 저는 해커에게 면죄부를 씌워주거나 해커를 대변하려는 의도는 아닙니다.
단지 해커들에게 "우리가 훔쳐간 아바타를 만든 모더가 100% 다 자기 손으로 만든게 아니라 소스 훔쳐와서 만든거니까 우리가 훔쳐도 괜찮아"라는 명분을
안겨주는 일을 만들 필요가 없다는겁니다. 월향님이 이 영상의 후반에 말씀하신 "그들(해커)은 자신이 한 행동이 옳다고 생각해"라는 것도 그런 이유에도 포함되죠...
물론 도둑질하는 이놈들이 로빈후드도 아니거니와 그렇다고 모더를 골라서 훔치는건 아닙니다. 그저 죄다 좋아보이는건 다 훔쳐가겠죠. 그들은 범죄자일 뿐입니다.
하지만 VR챗에서 모드를 작업하는 분들은 해커와 같은 사람이 되면 안되잖아요? 반듯이 자신이 어디에서 소스를 가져와서 작업했다면 그 사실도 충분히 명시하고
가져온 소스의 원 저작자들에게 허락을 받고 그렇게 만들어지는 모드들이나 혹은 제로에서부터 만들어지는 VR챗의 다른 모드들도 자신의 손으로 직접 제작한
모드들이 많아지게되면 모드들이 인정받고 합당한 가격에 판매되면 보다 더 건전하고 깨끗한 VR 문화가 만들어져나가는게 아닐까 하는 바램에서 말씀드려봤습니다.
저는 VR챗에서 명성이 자자하신 거물인 월향님이 이렇게 해킹에 관심가져주시는 것 만큼 모더들이 제작하는 건전한 모드 문화도 정착하려 애써주신다면
VR챗에 선한 많은 영향이 도달하리라 믿습니다.

게임 회사 소스를 리핑해서 쓰고 있다는 사실을 월향님도 모르는건 아닐텐데 저런 사람들은 지인이라 별 이야기 없고 지인들이 작업한걸 훔쳐가는

저도 개인적으로 모델링도 직접하는것도 많고, 부스에서 사다가 쓰는것도 많은만큼 아바타 핵쟁이들이 많이 싫긴 싫어요.
그런데 영상에 나온 아바타 제작자분은 아무렇지도 않게 게임회사 리소스 뜯어다가 만들었고
아바타 핵쟁이들도 그냥 아무렇지않게 남이 만든 아바타리소스 뜯어다가 올린건데
그 대상의 차이일뿐 같은행동을 했던사람이 저런식으로 나온다는게 어떻게보면 어이가없죠.
게임회사 리소스 뜯는거에 대한 언급은 없는게 당연하다고 생각하긴 해요, 대부분의 유저들은 게임회사 직원은 커녕 개발자들도 아니니까요

Well, I've been making huge animation avatars i spent several months on per Avatar since late 2017. I had a lot of fun showing off to an audience but since ripping became big it took all of this fun from me. I wish i could go back in time and experience that kind of Joy again.

This is ultimately why I stopped making animations for VRchat. Got into VRC early 2017 and it was amazing. I made so many animations and would showcase them in public lobbies such as Gia Night. However, after VRC's surge of popularity it starts attracting toxic people such as crashers, rippers, and wannabe "gang animators"... Ultimately because of them (+VRC staff), the game ceased to be what it once was and I lost all interest in making anything for it.

We do, but the problem is they dont remove them. Theres a few sites out there like this. No matter what creators do, they find a way around it.
I love how you, Moon, can be a super memer and obviously, every time i watch your videos, i can totally open my mind and feel great and laugh about your content and still, in that case being so serious. I mean, you are not very good at english but you try your best so we can see that you love this game and all the players even the ones you see casually. It's difficult to change all the bad things in the game but seeing you to wish a good experience for everyone and to help people who can live with the game (avatars maker and everyone that can have a little money from VRChat) make me very proud of knowing you. 근데 이게 마냥 VRC 측 문제로만 생각하기도 힘든게 유니티 엔진 자체가 보안에 많이 취약한 엔진이라 2021년인 지금도 프로젝트 해킹 강좌가 심심찮게 올라온다는 거.
엔진 자체가 해킹에 뻥뻥 뚫리는 판이니 그 엔진을 이용해 개발하는 VRC 개발자들도 한계가 있을수 밖에 없음.
근데 저런일이 발생을 하면 해킹범 계정정지라도 제대로 해야하는데 그것도 안하니...

hell, this has happened to me in the past and i can tell you that luna was actually very well mannered about this.
i mean hell, when it happened to me i just got real pissed and just did everything i could to just make them feel like the small, insignificant, piece of shit they were

From being someone that have been 5 years in this universe, i've saw many and many users complaining about this, people who call themselves "The Robin Hoods" of VRC because they feel that it should be a free content for everybody, but when you know that those creators that put so much of their times sometime even for trying to get a living gets literally robbed by those people, it's just the worst feeling ever. A lot of people can complain about this and that from VRC, but this problem, is the true ennemy of this game.
This must be a problem that all kinds of creators have. I feel bad that every kind of creator had to deal with this, and it's very heartbreaking. Though you did the right thing Moon. And I know that deep inside, we will fight through this and achieve victory. Cause as of now, this will be the time we work together to stop the madness of rippers.

Honestly, this is completely on VRC for their lack of security at this point, and if that's due to a lack of funding, then it's also their fault since I and others have suggested various ways of getting funding.
here's a quick way they could fix it: you upload a claim to the avatar first, maybe a website or just some text saying it's yours, then an AI downloaded off github as is (of which there are several, I specialize in this field) checks all previous models for similarity, and then a reviewer approves. If someone else then uploads something similar and it goes against your copyright settings, that user is immediately banned and you're notified of their username so you can search it online and take things further if you want.
but with a sistem like this ppl just need to make the avatar less similar, adding stuff, changing colors etc
and that sistem is not that good, since it could identify a avatar that uses a public model, from VRCModels for example, and ban the guy who made it for no reason, since the model was public
Let's just hope, the people in charge of the game, take notes about this and fix it, this is a really big thing, because if anyone can get past the security of the game, then there's no point on creating new things in the game... So, only thing left to do, is to wait...

This is the whole reason i dont add people or go into public/friends+ worlds anymore. When i buy an avatar from a creator and do my own little edit of it i dont want the creators work to be ripped or my own work (textures etc) i am also paying for a personal license to use the avatar and edit it. i just hate this part of vrc. and if the ripper gets banned for life, literally all they have to do is just make a new steam account and they can go back to ripping avatars. its so dumb.

I don't believe it is possible to change their mentality. Its simply impossible. Bad people will forever remain this way until they choose to change and they wont. The only real way I see is for security to be improved (which will take a very long time if it EVER happens). Alternatively we can wait for the first person to get pissed enough that they dox someone. But even then that'll only deter some people. Beyond that I don't see any realistic way this issue can be stopped.
It's sad to see this. Reasons like this is why a lot of people went to private worlds and why great creators I've known in the past have quit.
I feel really sorry for people who's avators got ripped. I really like vrchat like really, I want the vrchat community to be better, secure and safe in the future. I don't want the creators, makers and content creators of vrchat to be in ploblems and situations like this and I feel really bad about it.

Your English is improving every time I hear it. I've been playing VRChat since may of this year and I can imagine the anger and frustration creators feel when someone steals something that you worked hours upon hours on. VRChat is good, but it can be so much better with improved security

It's great to see people speaking about this. I have never really dealt with rippers of my avatars until 2020. Mind you, I don't put my avatars anywhere. No world, no discord, nothing. Just a random trusted user who does it as a hobby. They are just for my personal use. I even spend money on nitro or on gumroad to get assets for these avatars. I spend all my time in friends+ worlds and I STILL have my avatars ripped and uploaded to ripper websites where you can literally just put in the name of the creator of the avatar and download the VRC file. My friends have sent me screenshots of people that aren't me in my PRIVATED avatar. It's rediculous. Again, thank you for using your platform to speak about this.

This has been happening since the start and vrchat devs are well aware of it. Everyone knows if you take your avatar to public world it's going to get stolen. I don't think vrchat devs have the resources to battle with abusers, unless they restrict somethings from the public. That would basically mean restricted avatar and world creating.
Theyre spending more resources trying to baindaid the problem by continually banning many people instead of just raising security. They also would make so much money if they gave creators ways to monetize their products through the game instead of having to use 3rd party sites.
You're right, all the resources end up in things like VRC+ leave the game an even buggier unenjoyable mess than the previous update and take centuries to push out a new system.
Security was all the way at the bottom of their list of things that need to be done. They don't give a single shit of what people do, as long as it is money in the pockets of the company.
VRC team are also straight banning people who have never ripped, have been hearing of people who got banned even though they uploaded an avatar through unity

There have been so many cases of insanely stupid actions against people who were the victims even. like for gods sake a community of mine has been dealing with the same guy using hacked clients crashing our instances and throwing racial insults like they are candy on Halloween yet he remains unbanned even with more than enough evidence and proof put forward to game moderators directly.

I am a 3D developer and avatar maker too. I have faced this for a very long time. Dear Luna, I sympathize with you, one day we will defeat this problem, one day we will forget about it and one day we will regain the glory that the theme of creating avatars brought us.
It's bad cause avatars made from free assets are selling for 30 Euro and more. But you can't prevent ripping cause everything you see must be downloaded to you PC.
You can't prevent that, but devs can make something to encrypt files or avatar searching system.
Sadly theres always a person that can exploit the system and find a work around
You can by compiling the meshes to a single one and obfuscating the shaders and also making vrc IDs into a single use token that you get from the player. Maybe add safety settings to who you share the token with so not everyone sees your avatar. There are solutions

Moon, I actually met a GreatMoonAroma poser which, I knew it wasn’t you to begin with, and I noticed that he had Lolathon’s Minecraft MeatCanyon avatar; and at first I thought okay it must be just a fan-made one that looks kinda like it, then I meet up with them, and it played the full scenario, I clicked on his avatar while asking him “where’d you get that? I’m a huge fan of Lolathon” and he said a friend gave it to him, clearly they didn’t because it read his username... and I know that... if you report somebody in-game it doesn’t do shit... so all I did was I reported but didn’t do anything... then... (because for some reason I was friends with him which idk why maybe he was an old friend that I had saved then changed their name idk, but I don’t recognize his voice...) I check VRChat (because he was on every single night) and noticed that the poser was offline... I was like... really? This is a first... 2 months passes... and he still hasn’t gotten on... so either something bad happened to him... or he got banned and I have no idea... but this is proof that VRChat is looking out for people who hack these avatars in...
Well actually his friend could have given it to him with the assets and then the given was exported to that account. Ive done it before with a kon. A friend gave me the assets and then i exported it to my account. Obviously to my standards bc i just needed the base. So even if it says there name its a 50/50 that they did it or a friend gave the assets
I recently found out that my avatar that was made for me privately was ripped. A friend of mine was scrolling through EMM, saw my avatar, and instantly started to feel bad...I asked her why, then she told me. I was like "Ah.... :(".

this is the main reason why im only in friends+ or private in vrc, barely meeting new ppl while thats the main fricking feauture of vrchat, just so the avatars i let someone commision, that feel like my own, where i can feel unique, that where made to be like me irl somewhat actually, that they dont get stolen, that i dont easely see someone in my avatar and let the magic of it be lost, i worked together with multiple avatar creators to build an avatar i found joy out of, where if im with friends i feel like its me, and i just dont feel comfortable being in any public world, its why ive thought about moving to another vr meeting program like neos or sum else, but even then, and some of the assets i got, i paid for, i paid for at the genuine owner, but still being afraid when i expand more that some point i might accidently buy from a ripper. it really can ruin the magic, my hobby, and even the place i met the love of my life. i really hope vrchat sees these things and start doing something, and i dont expect them to suddenly fix it in one go, but at least try to fight it with the community that loves the platform so much.

good video! i really understand the frustration these creators go through just like luna. i have seen this dragon video and i really liked their avatars. i want to clarify that i'm not supporting ripping with my statement, but that blaming, criticizing or banning people that are clueless also doesn't help solving the problem. the problem that exists is that you sometimes don't even know what avatar is from whom and at a point some creators might even get to similiar results like this very famous blue haired twintail head that many were using. you can't forbid nor avoid that though personal created avatars that were 100 % made by one person are something different. sometimes you don't even know they are from somebody else or forbidden to use like from luna. if i was a person who was looking for a certain avatar and stumbeled upon lunas avatars without knowing luna i might use this avatar without knowing it's forbidden or stolen/ripped from a site. how to know what's stolen and what's not? as a vrc user you can't know everybody and what belongs to them. like in this case with the person luna was talking to. this person might not even have used the avatar with the intention of stealing it. it's not good and you shouldn't do it, but you can't always know if something's stolen. that's what i want to say. if i had a ripped avatar and i didn't know i had it, but the creator would see me with it and ask me why i have it, then i would delete it after i got to know that it was ripped, but yeah sometimes you just don't know. there are all kinds of pages to get avatars from and even people in vrc who may have ripped some avatars putting them in their private worlds for others to use. i guess you can't protect every avatar from stealing. that's kinda impossible in my eyes to fulfill as the vrc devs. they would need to proof in every single case of thousands of complaints that it was really stolen not banning people who actually didn't steal. how did they get lunas avatars btw? did they hack lunas account and then steal them? i didn't really get that part. you shouldn't go around pointing fingers at people that might have got ripped avatars though cause the people using them might not even know and just got that avatar from somebody else. so criticizing a clueless person would kinda be bullying and i doubt the vrc devs would support bullying in vrc. everybody should feel safe and welcome. i guess this person luna talked to in the video felt bad for that ripped avatar and might not even have known that it was ripped. if this person knew it, it's shit behaviour to steal it, but if they didn't you can't really blame them for something they didn't know.
I barley been in VRC I joined this wonderful experience from you, Lolathon and others this makes me sad to see. I never seen this problem but just crashers and toxicity. I hope VRC fixes this.

The fact that this comment is online and is able to be readed from where ever you are is very dangerous since you're just gonna make them immune to Nord VPN and can steal more accounts whether they have Nord VPN or not. And they probably had just became immune like right now.

Wow, I didn't know this was an issue. I was going to make my own avatars, but after seeing this I am going to hold off until it's more secure. I know it's difficult to make updates to fix security issues because the people who hack will find a way around it creating a possibly never ending cycle of trying to out do the other. The only thing we can really do is report those who stole or at least possess it. If the model is from a creator with a large name like Lolathon, then it is almost defiantly stolen. The hard part would be protecting the smaller creators where they are not known as well and it would be harder to know if their models were stolen. I really hope this issue gets solved and that those who were affected can know that their work will be safe and remain theirs. But one issue that I could possibly see is if there was someone who obtained a model that was stolen and they never knew, like if it were in a world that they didn't know had ripped avatars.
Honestly this whole situation is a very difficult one to solve, we can't know who is truly at fault and who is caught in it. I am sure someone would find a way to improve the security and protect the creators, I just hope it is soon. I am sad to see Luna delete their hard work, they had some of the coolest avatars with the most passion put into them. I hope when the situation changes they could return to making them again.
VRC does not have the right to care about what avatars people upload they even say it in their Tos, and if they do, then that means the need to check every single avatar in the game that has been uploaded and that is gonna be uploaded, therefore other games companies can sue em cause they allow ripped content from their game, and it will get like IMVU. Also i don't want to mention that like 70% of the avatar creators use ripped avatar body base or face, so that's a little double standard. And thanks for remind me i need to update to latest Asset Ripper :p

I'm practically a nobody in VRC but I still think people have a right to their own stuff without worrying about people taking it. I've played for 6-7 months and was wanting to eventually make my own avatars from scratch but I do think this this problem needs attention before I start. Moon thank you for the video telling all of us this issue, you can be sure if I see people doing this actively I will report them for theft. Keep up the good content and don't lose hope everything has a time limit. With a little nudge maybe the rippers time limit will end faster.

I just recently finished a more unique model for vrc and thinking of that makes me mad as well.... Rippers are just.... ugh, it tramples the creativity and skills of makers with feet. Its like tracing in 2D art, just needs even less skill

여기서 가장 중요하고 큰 점은 게임사엔 피해가 있나 싶을 정도로 희미한데
유저가 게임사나 개발자들이 받을 법한 피해까지도 고스란히 받는다는 데에 있다 생각함
유저들이 아바타를 만들고 공유하고 사고 파는, 어떻게 보면 하나의 시장이 구성된 지 꽤 오래 됐다고 생각 하는데
이 영상을 토대로 보면 어떠한 방어 체제도 없는 것 같아 굉장히 아쉬움
나도 커스터마징 게임을 좋아하고 오래 해 왔던 사람으로서 그 제작에 들이는 시간과 정성이 엄청 깊은 걸 잘 알고 있음
하물며 vrc에서 쓰는 아바타를 만들기 위해선 블렌더나 유니티 등 다른 프로그램을 이리저리 돌려가며 제작해야 하고
파츠들도 어떤 건 값비싼 가격에 사거나 며칠, 몇 주, 혹은 몇 달 씩 투자 해 가며 제작 하는 건데 들이는 노력이나 정성을 상상도 할 수 없을 것 같음
방어 체제야 말이 방어 체제지 사실 해커들은 다 뚫는다고 쳐도 디스코드 방까지 그대로 방치하고 있다는 건 심하다고 생각 함
뭐가 되었건 게임사는 유저가 받을 수 있는 피해에 어느 정도 보호 해 주고 예방 해 줘야 한다고 생각함
게임사가 유저들의 피해에 손 놓고 방관만 한다면 누가 그 게임에 손을 대겠음
물론 고정 댓글에도 있듯이 유저들간의 자정작용도 필요하지만, 가장 크게 중요시 되는 건 게임사의 확실한 개입과 대책이라고 생각함

I kinda wish there was someway that, when say making a private avatar, how it usually creates a prefab id or whatever, that as long as the avatar was set to private, that id would be specially linked to the account that uploaded it and the id would be permanent. And that if anyone ripped the avatar or tried to, the avatar/model would be unusable due to the id set on it and how its linked to a specific account.
I know there would probably be a way to get around it. Or a maybe even a better solution to saving an avatar from being ripped. I just wish there was something set in place to try and prevent this from happening, yknow?
Well actually it does. When you make an id it is linked to that account and the work around that is to remove the id if someone else ripped it
It’s sucks too, because it’s been a while since I’ve been on and even last year I’ve witnessed people with mods that can take avatars from others even if the clone thing is turned off, have their avatar auto follow others around, and crash a room at the press of a button.
That's always the problem with games like this that start off small and explode in popularity. Despite how old the game might be, a lot of the time developers just don't how how to, or aren't willing to invest in measures that will improve the game's experience for everybody. I'd like to hope it's just ignorance on their part, not seeing the bigger picture and how it affects them.
As far as I'm concerned, VRC would not exist without streamers and model creators. I think it's safe to say that it's how most people found the game and gave it the success it enjoys today. Like you said in the video, if the VRC devs want model creators to continue providing "free advertising" for their game via streams and CZcams videos, they should be focused on improving the security that's necessary to keep these creators' livelihoods protected.

Cuz people rip there ass off creating something at day, night, months and years. And people just take like it's there own.
It really sucks when people steal content from someone else, specially if they are making money out of it.
But sadly it's something there's no control over, specially for a game/program/whatever like vrchat that is open for people to upload models at free will
But I hope there will be a way to prevent this problem in the near future
i was just about to say that it's just a model and a game. but then i realized that people spend HOURS even DAYS to make a single model. I wouldn't want people to steal my things and sell them for a high price, i would feel the same way. I also hope this issue gets fixed

I have seen this happen before and it sucks. I love shows with hero transformation and I found my Japanese hero shows that way, but when I found vrchat I saw there was a small community making these as avatars. Some of these people made avatar worlds to share some with other fans and they don’t share all of them of course, and I get it they made them and it’s their right to make their own personal ones but then I noticed that large chunks of my saved ones started disappearing and world went offline. After talking to some friends online who know the avatar makers I found out that thy had a lot of their avatars stolen and sold so they had to take their stuff offline. I felt terrible losing something I enjoy amongst a small group of people who I can finally share my interest with because there are those who do things like this. I can’t say I don’t understand that they can’t make this stuff themselves and that they want to experience it too, I even have been tempted myself just so I can enjoy it, not to sell it or take credit just because I would enjoy their work. But I can’t because I have seen how it can hurt them and because I know they don’t deserve that. I’m sorry if it sounds like I’m trying to rant or preach or even if my grammar and punctuation aren’t great but I want to say that I understand the desire to use someone else’s work just because you want to enjoy it and it’s hard to resist I’m not even sure if I have a point except that this is an issue and I get where they come from. I am just saying a lot because it makes me made and I don’t expect people to read this but I want to say it not because I should but because it upsets me every time I think maybe I should try it just once and then I think about how stupid I am thinking that. I’m not sure how to end this after I said so much but maybe someone else gets it and Moon thanks for talking about this you good to your friends.

Честно, эта проблема немного древнее, чем вы думаете. Я бросил vrchat почти год назад именно по этой причине. Мне показали, как украсть чужие модели. И показали на моем примере. Да, для этого я должен был ошибиться и дать данные о себе. Но это все равно выглядело очень просто. Я был очень зол. Фрустрация переполняла меня, после чего я бросил игру и пошел работать, хаха.
Но то, что происходит сейчас - это финиш. Мошенникам больше не нужна твоя помощь, чтобы ограбить тебя. Они просто берут все что у тебя есть - и считают это нормальным.
Я понимаю Луну. Я понимаю всех тех, кто не хочет больше ничего творить.

the problem of ripping avatars has been getting worse and worse
i know so many of my friends and avatar creators that have this problem, it just makes me so angry
i really hope that they fix this problem and stop ppl from doing this shit bc its not funny, its not nice and its just such a bad thing to do!
