TEW1 style was just perfect. From the weapons and their damage/impact, to the enemy styles. It's theme is just way better than TEW2.
the first evil within I think is amazing. its creepy as hell and the real deal as survival horror. its shame it went kinda under the radar and as far as performance it was optimized for ps3/360 and basically ported to ps4/xbox one from what Mikami said in an interview a while back. I love the hip lantern lol I knew right there mikami made the game but in all seriousness that's why resident evil went to crap after 4, he left capcom after he made re4 back in 05. my theory is now they went back to his old demos like the hookman version of re4 with the dark atmosphere and flashlight and remade 2 and now 4 in that style. I read recently capcom tried to entice him to come back to direct the re4 remake but he declined due to his responsibilities at tango. the guy is extremely humble... now that he's leaving he must be confident in the team and it opens him up for a project and rumor has it he's going to direct one game for capcom. we'll see, I hope so.
This is sad news. I'm a BIG The Evil Within fan, and the fanbase is kinda niche now. If they make a 3rd one, hope they go back to the creepy style of the 1st with the Shinji touch on it.
Hi-Fi Rush gives me hope, though. With the tease and all the easter eggs.
Re 1 remastered/ Re4/ TEW 1 are all 10/10 games that i played multiple times, the evil within 2 i played just because its called evil within 💀
The only game that’s 10/10 are RE Remake, and The Evil Within.

Same. I enjoyed the second game but the story was a bit generic
I loved both games like evil within one had cool bosses and moments where I shit myself but it was more frustrating and in evil within two there where scary bosses like the lament but it was also frustrating

That was literally the thing it got the most shit for. Hell, TEW2 was so good the RE remakes basically rip it off.
This is the worst news for me. I was really hoping he would be the director for The Evil Within 3. The Evil Within 1 and Dead Space 1, 2 are my favorite horror games of all time. Very sad news indeed
tew1 was such an amazing game. Mikami brings such a unique and dark style to the survival horror genre, it’ll be hard to live up to. i do love the second game but it was severely lacking in what made the first so charming. you can tell he had minimal involvement. hopefully they’ll still consider making a 3rd game but if they do, hire a different director maybe..lol
There was or still is an analysis of the horror approach of the two games years ago, and it boils down to Japanese vs western style approaches. Even the characterizations. I preferred the stoic Sebastian of the original over the 2nd one's by a country mile.

Oh man I missed the first game. I've never played RE4 but I just finished RE4 remake, it felt just like TEW1. If Mikami could work with a larger studio who can allocate more resources to polish the game, TEW1 could just be a masterpiece like RE4. It is so sad to see it getting forgotten like this.
John Johanes did a great job with TEW1's DLC, but unfortunately i feel like he wasnt ready for directing a TEW2 yet. So yeah. I feel like we shouldve had Johannes as assistant and still kept Shinji Mikami director for TEW2. cuz Johannes still did a fine job for TEW1's DLC.

I think TEW is done. Not because of Mikami leaving but because of TEW2. That game its not better than the first one. Its almost 6 years now since its release and still theres nothing about a sequel so.. yeah rip TEW franchising.
Let's not forget the man's underrated cult classic, God Hand (there's Vanquish too.. the gameplay in his games had an addictive and satsifying element). I'm mostly done with gaming after 35+ years, and whenver I feel like replaying a game, I usually fall on one of his games. The original RE and the remake remain my two favorite games of all time.

John Johanas is our only hope for TEW3 now. He needs to stay with Tango and push for it, otherwise the dream is dead.
As for Mikami, I really hope he does not retire. Wikipedia has him at 57, so I'd like to think he has more projects in his future.

Johanas did a great job with TEW1's DLC... but i feel he wasnt truly ready to direct TEW2 fully yet.

This is why microsoft disbanded tango here in the future. It seems tango couldn’t function well without him.

No, it may actually have new life now since he’s leaving and was clearly never interested in a third title.
I can’t think of another game that has such nightmarish, creative enemy design in such a grimy, horrific style. There’s Nioh, Bloodborne and the likes, but these monsters feel more fantasy rather than horror. I’ve been hoping for years there will be another TEW game and will continue to hope.

@@bradwang3648 I used to play Silent Hill back on the PS2 and had quite an obsession with it back then.
I’ll not invest my interest in the revival though, until I know it’s been brought back to the moody, vivaciously monstrous game it needs to be. Anything less would just be painful.
@@azuregiant9258 you should still give it a shot. Konami seems to put a lot of hard work and commitment for the reborn series. The announcement conference was epic; SH2 remade plus two more independent SH games.
I hope he knows he still directed a lovely game, 1 is janky as heck but it has so much soul imo.

Well, I hope he finds his next home soon. I love his direction. Tango’s TEW 1-2 are some of my all time favorite games. I also loved Ghostwire: Tokyo. I never got into HiFi, but I’m still looking forward to what they do next. (Cough) Evil Within III (cough)

That would be amazing, the problem for me though is that I really feel a third game is needed as there is more story worth to tell. It's all people ask for whenever Tango post on their socials lol
Even if we can't get a EW3 I can at least hope we get Evil Within with remastered Graphics. Besides that, they shouldn't mess with the game.

TEW3 should be little more like Alan Wake 2 and RE4 remake. Semi-open world that you can progress back if you want to do side quests aka bounties like RE4R but old video

The first game was trying to be a spiritual successor to Resident Evil 4. Then, the second managed to improve.
This doens't bother me tbh. Tango isn't one man, and they're clearly very talented. TEW's DLC and TEW2 are improvements over the first game in almost every way. I personally look forward to whatever they work on next, as well as Shinji's next project. This isn't a case like Itagaki leaving Tecmo, and absolutely nothing of value was lost.
The Evil Within 1 is the superior one imo. TEW2 is just mehh and not scary at all.

At least the guns ACTUALLY WORK, and sprinitng isn't a joke for starters. It's a hard fact.TEW1 is janky AF, and full of half assed ideas. I would know. My Akumu difficulty run, is one of the worst gameplay experiences I've ever endured. I can say one solid thing about TEW1. Fantastic Boss battles.. Even though they're generic in design, and the game janks out at the worst times.
I have things I don't like about TEW2 as well. But I'll take its superior/smoother gameplay over the first game's jankfest any day.
I’m sorry but TEW2 was the most disappointing sequel ever made, actually it didn’t even work as a sequel. They didn’t follow the first game’s storyline and even changed Sebastian’s personality.

Sebastian has NO personality in TEW1. dude is hardly a fucking character. He might as well be a plank of wood sleepwalking through the whole game. A silent Isaac from DS1 has more personality than anything Sebastian does in TEW1. Stop the deluded fanboy cap.
