- Time travel back to 1912 and the city of Haarlem, Netherlands Europe, with deep learning AI colorization. Experience the sights and sounds of a bygone era. A mesmerising time capsule.
Between 1899 and when this film was taken in 1912, Haarlem like most small cities began to feel the effects of modern technology. The motor car, and the electric tram were pushing the horse and carriage off the street.
In 1912 however a typical day was still marked by the chimes of the carillon bells of St. Bavo church. Cobbled streets lined with quaint Dutch houses, their facades reflecting the rich history and culture of the region. The sound of horses hooves mingling with the screech of trams. This is Haarlem, nestled in the heart of the Netherlands.
Industrially, the city hummed with activity. Factories emitting plumes of smoke that mingled with the crisp air of Haarlemmerhout forest. Horse-drawn carriages, their clip-clopping hooves a familiar melody now mingled with the electric trams. Amidst it all, the occasional motorcar rumbled, heralding the dawn of a new era in mobility.
The fashions worn in Haarlem during this time would have been more utilitarian and less influenced by the rapidly changing trends seen among the wealthier classes. Economic constraints would have dictated choices in clothing, favoring durability and practicality over style.
Women would have likely worn aprons to protect their clothing while they worked. These aprons were often made from sturdy fabrics and were an essential part of their daily attire.
For children, especially girls, dresses were the predominant choice of clothing. These dresses would have been simpler in design compared to those worn by wealthier children, likely made from practical fabrics that could withstand the rigors of play and daily activities.
Accessories such as hats, shawls, and scarves would have also been common among both women and children, providing both warmth and a touch of style to their outfits.

What amazing restoration. This is absolutely beautiful. Thank you for all your hard work in preserving these films.
The magic of reliving the past, of seeing it in the palm of one hand...
Right!? I was thinking same thoughts. I could just jump into the screen and be right there 😊
Every building pretty, everyone put together and behaving in a civilized way. We have lost so much.
At least we gained so much more almighty diversity. It was so worth it.
@@WideAwake-bl7gw yeah too bad the result was turning it all into a shithole. Like the suburbs outside the gates of hell.
Very true.
Yes but slums existed back then too.
@@WideAwake-bl7gwhope you are being sarcastic
Everyone and everything looks so clean
How hauntingly beautiful it was. I wish I could time-travel for even one day ❤
Me too. Where would you go? I'd travel back to 1910, London.
I’d go back to the golden age of Hollywood, 20’s, 30’s to be exact, see if i could spot a star or two.
@@chasidahl8563 Vienna around 1900, to try and meet Hofmannsthal ❤
London in 1910 would be amazing, too!
@SibylleLeon - fabulous! I'd travel back to 1910 to witness the medical innovations, political movements, industrial advances, and the exquisite fashion! So, we've got our time machine all set- when do we all go?
@@chasidahl8563 Oh yes, the fashion... and the art nouveau, the music, all the changes in society... it's all around my favourite period in history (around 1890-1914).
I went to Haarlem in September 2022 and it's amazing that many spots in this video look very familiar of places I rode my bike in. Many of the buildings haven't changed at all, really amazing.
It's called Harlem now
I live nearby, in Amsterdam. Haarlem has stayed more authentic and is more pleasant to visit.
@@drfibonacci7570 I totally agree, my favorite cities in the Netherlands were the smaller towns. One that really surprised me was Marken. What a beautiful scenery when you walk all the way to the lighthouse and you see all that land with animals there.
I swear, just wow. Watching these restored old videos with today's technology just makes me feel like we really live in the future.
This is magical thank you for all your hard work you put into these wonderful films ❤
Look at how much slower life was just a bit over 100 years ago. You can feel the shalom, the peace, the tranquility of these brothers and sisters pictured living lives a a very different pace than today.
First thing I thought of😮
Please don't use words of the language of Europe's destroyers.
@@folksurvival HalleluYAH What words would you be referring to? Perhaps you can enlighten us all by venting your grievances with what words I've used and explain why?
I misread Harlem and was like, damn Harlem has changed.
Lol, me too...I was expecting to see my wife's people, didn't see the additional 'a' in the spelling.😅
LMAO@@UlrichW-mm8yz
NYCs Harlem is named after this Harlem as NY was originally Dutch. Also before 1910-1920, NYC Harlem was a white area. Then a changeover occurred…
Now THAT is interested af. thanks!@@laurenxo6503
Wow, just wow! I've seen colour photos from those days before but this is one very nice restoration! Great effort! ❤
The sounds are so appropriate. I know Haarlem well, and in many ways it’s largely unspoiled; certainly most of what you see here still exists. I love the two wee girls being pulled along by the cart at around 1:10. They were possibly wearing clogs (klompen) which facilitated their sliding across the cobbles.
Oh! I wondered about that! I thought they were trying to push the wagon. But yikes, either way, seems so dangerous being so close to the moving wagon! 😰 Maybe they were doing it just for the camera.
1:13 Amazing! This whole video was like watching a movie even the sounds! Amazing how the world looked then!
I have a special place in my heart for Haarlem. This is beautiful. Thank you.
Thank You for your incredible videos !!
I particularly liked this very one 1:06
Two children are playing, they
are sliding behind the
horse-drawn carriage
IT IS soooo CUTE
Thank you SO MUCH for a video of such quality, it’s like it was filmed yesterday!!!)
This gave me goosebumps ❤ you feel such a connection with them somehow. Your content always gives me the feels❤
Beautiful past our ancestors lived in so quiet and peaceful living amazing restoration of video
just 48 years before I was born. How quickly the world changes.

Vidéo tres intéressante et aussi beaucoup trop courte.
Je ne me lasse pas de regarder ces images beaucoup trop précieuses: témoignage à garder pour les siècles à venir.❤
Excellent job, one thing I always loved about Europe is how much is still the same as it was hundreds of years ago.
We stay in Haarlem sometimes when we go to the Netherlands.. hasn't changed a lot.
I would watch two hours of this❤
Карачы канча жыл өтсө да видео сонун сакталган😍мага эски жашоо кызыктуу
Beautiful !
Looks like another world!
I can watch this for hours. This is so beautiful !!
Wow 😮 Danke für das Teilen! Die Bildszene bei 1:18 ist absolut fantastisch. Ein Ort der Sehnsucht.
Has anyone noticed the children hanging on to the rear side of the horse carriage. Very cute 1:08
I love how they keep their heads down so the driver won't see:)
1:03 Nice couple 🥰❤️ I always see couples everywhere. Vibrating in the frequency of love 😍😍😍
1:12 that looks amazing!
Very beautifull, especially for people working as historians. The life seems so peacefull, but we are the year of Titanic tragedy and 2 years only before WW1, a butchery, european suicide inner-war.
Gosh I just love time traveling. Your work is sublime! I remember the first time I watched one of your restorations and exclamation WoW! Back then people were just like us (living now). What a stupid thing to say…😂. I couldn’t articulate these people had the same hardships, daily grind, play/fun, social connections, hopes & dreams we do today. Idk why that was so profound to me. Some things never change. Just the scenery.
amazing 😍 are you planning to restore videos from Poland?
Wow beautiful 😍❤️❤️❤❤️❤❤️❤place such a nice place very peaceful 😍❤😍❤😍❤❤❤❤😐I want to come here😔😔😍❤️❤️❤️❤️😍😍🥰😍🥰😍😍🥰
In an urban environment such quiet and ubiquitous sounds of daily life back then is almost jarring to my modern ears, where I have to keep my windows closed at night to block out the ever present noise of city life.
This is a miracle, the restoration it's awesome. A big Wow.
Stunning and makes me feel like I'm right there. Thank you .
I miss beauty.
This feels so eerie. But beautifully done 💖
Looks like it could have been filmed yesterday . Very nice. 👍🏻
That is stunning. It is a totally new look at human life in history. An ability to see things with the modern eye and 'humanise' the figures on screen in a way that the black and white zombie-fies them and makes them hard to relate to. The men walking in the trees is eerie in its reality - It makes one think, "Whare is that day of these two men walking through a park?" - Really odd. Like looking into a time machine and leaving one puzzled about passage of time. The clothing is harder to conceptualise in colour that they actually wore these styles. The trams are really modern looking? Wow. Amazing
Kolosāls!!!👍👍👍
Espetacular!!! Great work!!!
Astonishing restoration. So relaxing. I could watch this for hours! Thank you for all efforts ❤
I have to remind myself that it's not a movie set! Wow! And what am I seeing at 1:10? Are those kids pushing the wagon? 🤔
Magique, magnifique ❤❤❤merci
Those lost faces looking back at us like ghosts from the past. Wonder if they couldn't have possibly imagined we'd be looking back at them over a hundred years in the future?
No malls, truck stops, 8-lane highways, big box stores…
Just superb. Thank you!
@1:06 is that 2 kids behind the horse and buggy pushing it?
Lovely images
Your best one yet. Beautiful. ❤
Like everybody else who watches this I am amazed that we can go back all those years to see how people lived and looked! Thank you for this! 😊
Simply fabulous ! Good job Glamourdaze !
Haarlem is my fave city in Europe.
It is sad. They had no idea what was to come in just two short years.
The Netherlands remained neutral in the First World War.
Wonderful thank you!
These are breathtaking
The two little kids helping to push the cart lol. Careful now!
A world we’ll never see again
they were saying that in 1000 bc and your great great grandchildren will say that about the present..don't get caught by nostalgia for an imaginary " better" world...the best of times is now
@@nondescript2892 colour film is relatively new. Even though this was digitally coloured in, it’s still interesting to see the past other than in Black and White. It almost looks like it could be present day but we know it’s not.
The most technological advancements have happened in the last 200 years; it’s still more than the advancements that preceded it the last 1000 years.
@@nondescript2892 How is nowadays a better world ? The fashion and the morals aren't even better.
@@truesosense7722 The 'morals' are considerably better.
@@justinezafra Almost no one would of agree with you 20 years ago let alone 100 years ago.
The children at 1:10 riding behind the carriage made me to remember how childhood used to be like. We had so much freedom and we were so innocent thinking that we can do whatever we want.
This is amazing!!!!
The city my father grew up in, during the 30's and the occupation, so many stories while growing up.
Wow! Absolutely Amazing ..
Wow! Almost perfect!
How wonderful ❤
A gorgeous Old World city!
Amazing ❤
Such a neat and clean city and people ❤
These old films in their original state are interesting. With the "AI restoration, soundscapes, upscaling to 4K 60 fps and colorization" they become fascinating.
Impresionante viaje en el tiempo ❤
Wonderful❤I like this time.
That video was so beautiful and you did an amazing job at bringing the images to life for it was so clear and the colours was very soothing and it just really stood out but it looked so beautiful there and so peaceful and everyone looked so lovely,if only there was a way of going back through time for I think I would like to go there. Thank you for posting such a lovely video.
Amazing!
i just love old videos. i need to see more. :)
Love to hear the birds chirping
Me too ! 👌
This is beautifully restored..... though I think it is a few years later than 1912, because the skirts are shorter here than they would have been in 1912.
Jaw dropping!! Wow!
Damn, was looking so safe and piece full
Can't help but think of how peaceful the world must have seemed by contrast. Even if we're alone in a cabin in this day and age, we have way too much data buzzing around in our brains. It's noisy. Hard to escape. But we don't have to worry about pox and dysentery, so I guess there's always a tradeoff. 🙃
These fashions could be worn in 2024!😊❤
Superb..
The silence❤❤❤ the sounds that we cant hear anymore❤❤❤ i wish we could enjoy it nowadays. Less polution and better enviroment for everyone.
I love how someone could show this to me without any explanation and i would legit believe that it was recorded like yeasterday
We've evolved and devolved at the same time.
Perfection
Wonderful! And not a cellphone in sight!!!!!
Amazing
The automobile truly is the destroyer of worlds
The more I see these videos, the more I get the feeling/illusion that the buildings and architecture seemed larger back then.
Edit: 1:12 I nearly cried this video capture is painting-worthy beautiful. Look at the size of those trees 🌲😱🌲😭
I find these mesmerising.......
Before penicillin, but what a wonderful pace of life...
Just sent to my Dutch friend. Very cool
Veramente incredibile, in certi passi, my compliment
Wow😍
Can you run *this* footage back through the AI and have it further richly color it?
