A Hollywood actress - at least in those days was expected to look attractive, no matter when she was in public. Knowing how to be beautiful - every day, was of tantamount importance.
Many Hollywood studios had attending makeup artists, some as famous as Max Factor. The Westmore Brothers were a family business devoted to the art of Hollywood makeup .A lot of effort was put in to teaching the studio's starlets how to look beautiful. From the moment they stepped out of their front door.

The Film Restoration Process
I took early fragments of silent 16fps footage and restored it to life by a combination of manual frame by frame color grading as well as some use of deep exemplar-based video colorization techniques. The footage was upscaled and the frames interpolated to a higher frame rate ( in this case 60 frames per second.) Finally the soundtrack audio was separated , cleaned and a new backing track added.
Produced by Howard C. Brown and Curtis F. Nagel, for the Educational Films Corporation of America. Location - Hal Roach Studios, best known for the works of Laurel & Hardy.

A new improved 4K restored version of Constance Bennett's lavish morning beauty routine - complete with attending house maid ! What's your daily beauty routine?
I just want the maid. 😃
@@jujubee463 that maid is haunted!
Thank you so much! Constance Bennett has been a favourite actress of mine for years thanks to Topper and Sin Takes a Holiday. I always loved this way of selling her products and it's amazing to see it in such clarity! So much detail is now viewable in the background too. What a wonderful video to share!
Sounds like you added the music. Probably could have left that out or at least turned it down.. It was distracting!
@@coffee-xg6my I was going to say the same: great job with the video restoration, but not the best choice of music. Either a 1930s-appropriate soundtrack or nothing would have been better. I understand the music is meant to create a relaxing morning mood, but for anyone who knows this era, it's very jarring paired with this video! 🤯I do, however, appreciate all the effort that went into this.
I love how we really don’t change much. Women have been doing get ready with me videos forever. Kinda cute lowkey
yes!
Ive taken to reading books from the 1800's - we have not changed very much at all, and people in the past knew way more than we credit them with - WE like to think we are special. We are not as special as we tell ourselves.
I’m, for one, glad that she found a cream cleanser that doesn’t grow fuzz
I'd like to know what she means by with fuzz. If your face wash has mold growing in it, then something's wrong with that company
Yes I'll sleep better tonight knowing that too......
@@missyouwish88peach fuzz (aka hair in your face)
@@sarathomas8499 ohhhhh! Makes sense, even if peach fuzz grows on your face no matter what cleanser you use 😆
@@missyouwish88 preservatives weren’t always as good as the are now I guess 😂
I love the fantasy of this. "Beautiful and natural" while putting make-up over the full face of make-up she was already wearing. 😂
OG Kardashian 😂😂😂

Jewellery is a sin for both sexes.
Piercings is a sin for both sexes.
Trousers/pants and shorts is a sin for the female sex.
Skirts and dresses/gowns is a sin for the male sex.

She cleans her face with a cleansing cream, but left all her eye makeup and lipstick on. No, wait a second, she’s not wearing any makeup when she woke up. She’s meant to be born with all those colours in her face 😽❤️
she takes a bath right in the middle of it too!! its madness
Marley I was thinking the same thing!, even her hair was beautiful, wow!, she'd ran screaming if she could see me in the morning's 😎

Glad to see the “morning routine” videos have always been the same. Waking up with that level of makeup? Sure, I believe that.
Fr
its step 1!!! haha
I woke up like this!
Cuz I passed out like this ...
Dosen't we all wake up like that O_O
Side note - My great aunt once told me that it was common for women to sleep in their makeup. She said many women did not even let their husbands see their natural face. They would wake up before their husbands to take a bath and redo their makeup before they woke up. Different times I suppose.
For years, my friends and I would quote “She’s like an alarm clock, isn’t she?” At work.
My grandma was a young mother in the 1930’s. My mom was born I 1933. Sadly my grandma died many years before I was born. I like watching videos from her time. It’s like I’m getting to know her. How she walked dressed and hair and makeup. Might sound weird but it’s all I have. Thank you not only for the video but your channel! I love it.
Not weird at all ❤
That doesn't sound weird what's so ever..💖
Those were amazing times. The women were so feminine and spoke softly. I love hearing stories from the woman or passed down from this time. That's so cool you're grandma lived in that time. I bet you have some amazing stories
Okg how old is ur mom no offense
@@bgcrp2005 she died in 2016 at age 84. She was born 1933.
My dad was born 1931 died 2001.
That maid does not get paid enough to deal with all that sass and fuss in the morning. 😂❤
I know right! 😆😅
😂😂😂
My thoughts exactly. She acts like the maid serving her is a chore.
Funny thing is, by the early 1900’s after WW1, most people that could afford servants grew so close with those people, they regarded them as more than servants; many saw them as confidants, friends, and oftentimes even family.
“She’s like an alaaaahhm clock”
when she said the dolls are lazy for not wearing blush, I died. LOL. nice to see influencer videos aint changed in 80 ish years LOL.
I love her final look with the blouse and suit, soft-looking hairdo, handbag and gloves. So elegant..but oh my goodness her screen presence simply blew me away! Is she charismatic or what? I would love to just emulate her whole energy here 💥
The tension between her and the maid is so hilariously awkward.
Love the comments and great job of restoring this video! My favorite part? “Now the lipstick!” While already having lipstick on 😮
Glow Base is what we call "primer" The more things change the more they stay the same! Love this! Thanks so much!
primer wasn’t introduced until approx 10 years ago. this was probably just moisturizer. petroleum jelly or tallow is also possible.
Modern primer is usually made from silicone-based polymers so it's unlikely they had this back in the 1930s. Given the name, it's likely this "Glow Base" was just rebranded Vaseline...they were huge fans of petroleum jelly back then and marketed it for everything from automotive lube to laxatives.
I agree with you. While primers today we're not used back then because of different ingredients, she said in the video she uses Glow Base to give the skin a nice luminous look while also helping to keep makeup intact. Which is basically what we use primer for today.. So I got you!
@@pinkpineapple9663 It is a great IDEA! They had the idea a long time ago and maybe in the future there will be something superior to the primer we hae today
@@LaciRae it’s been around a lot longer than ten years. I started using primer (MAC strobe cream was the first one I got) in the early 2000s.
Imagine having the sort of life where you have time to have a morning bath.
you had time to watch this.
Easy, if you wake up early you can enjoy it right before going to work.
Lol yes. While your maid draws your bath but also breakfast is already made for the family. Just wake early 🤡
I doubt she spent more time in that bath than it takes you to have a quick shower.
Actors dont have to work hard like normal 9 to 5 people yet get they paid so much better, benefits of brothel I guess,i cant help but wonder how much casting couch she had to do to become an actress
Her hair is GORGEOUS
Wow! This is just like my morning routine! Well, except for everything.
"Hello. I'm Constance Bennett. Everyday I wake up with my hair perfectly coiffed and a full face of makeup." 😆
"Wish you loads and loads of loveliness". Will have to use that one sometime.
I remember watching Constance when she did beauty tips like this on TV in the early 60s. She was so glamorous and lovely, even in middle age!
And remember to be beautiful and natural is the birthright of everyone!!! ❤
Finally someone got the message
I think of this in context of those 1940s-50s videos of the teenage girls being taught about beauty at school: it was less about having explicitly good looks and more about having self-respect & the attendant effort of good grooming. It's like if you respect and take care of yourself the rest will fall into place naturally. I wish more people, women AND men, took this message to heart. It's kind of depressing to go out and see so many people who clearly do not give a fig about their appearance.
@@michellejacobsen331 I agree with you but.. I think it has only been recently that people think looking good in the sense of esthetics is a shallow thing. Never in the human history people thought that. Thats why people dressed nice going to church, or thats why churches was beautiful. Its very hard to separate the spiritual from esthetics. I see many people that fight to live in very beautiful houses but think its shallow to wear beautiful clothes.
I need the maid at my house. She would tell me what time it is and to quit playing on the phone and get going! 😅
Love the restoration in this--not only in color but also in 60 fps. It looks like something more recent, like the 1950s or 60s than in the 30s.
“She’s like alarm clock isn’t she” 😂
My morning routine exactly. 😁

@@NIGHTGUYRYAN oh ok! thank you!
Constance Bennett was a wonderful, sometimes comedic, actress. Loved her in the "Topper" movies with Cary Grant. Her sister Joan Bennett was even more famous. Loved her in the Dark Shawdows series later in her life.
Dark shadows! Loved all of them. Almost. Johnny Depp, ugh👎
I love how women and men back then just always looked so presentable. And now we have people grocery shopping in their PJs with messy bun.
Thank god we can do that instead of all this made up look only to go grab a bottle of milk.
they weren't that different, they wore day dresses or house dresses most of the day. Amphetamines to wake up and "mood-boost" were also commonly used from 1920 to 1970.
@@kaitlinmcguire8828 They were very different, they understood design and poise, don't be an imbecile.

So basically a GRWM in the 1930s.
Her cleansing cream: it doesn't grow fuzz..lol.😂😅
It was a different life style, but still I like to watch them. I like her voice.
Thanks for sharing! 💐👏💖
Constance Bennett is largely forgotten today, but in her day she was kind of like Geena Davis. She'd live another 27 years, and made a fortune out of cosmetics.
I don't think Geena Davis is an apt comparison. While I like Geena a lot, Constance was the highest paid actress of her day, and one of the most glamorous women of her era, yet her career faded quickly. She was a lot like Demi Moore.
@@endangeredarchitecture Fair point!
She has the kind of voice that must’ve been used often in commercials.

She looks beautiful but she woke up fully made up, she said it's important to start with a slate LOL
It's probably the AI's colorization
She means 'a clean slate' after removing yesterday's makeup with the cleansing cream. Women slept in their makeup and only removed it the next morning to put on a fresh new layer.
Thank you so much. I'm a huge Constance Bennett fan, it's a real treat to see her in colour 😊
Absolutely love the restoration. I’ve got a box full of 8mm from the 1950s-1960s and would love to learn how to make them look this good!
She’s beautiful, has a nice voice, I love the robe, and this routine and her life just seems so classy and elegant. Ahh so jealous😩😂
Yes that robe was exquisite!
I always wake up with a full face of makeup and my hair perfectly coiffed. You?
Sometimes but I get up early because I hate hearing 'my alarm clock' drawing my morning 5 minute bath. Such a hassle! At least there's no fuzz on my mask cream.

Aw this was actually really lovely and fun ♥️
this is simply amazing
The cutest bed frame / daybed ever
Does anyone know if this was for a commercial for a cosmetic brand?
The references to all the creams and lotions seem specific to a company. I think she was the highest paid actress in the 30s. Someone must have paid her a small fortune to advertise, and I can't tell what for!
On a side note, here's hoping they bring back Topper. Her and (the then unknown) Cary Grant were wonderful 🥰
Constance Bennett had her own cosmetics line and I’m sure this was an advertisement for that!
