  • Welcome everyone to my review of the new MG ZS EV.
MG are on a roll and that is in no small part due to their affordable Electric Vehicles, the MG5, the ZS SUV and the upcoming MG 4.
With this revised version of the ZS we now have 2 battery choices which means you can go for an extended range version with a claimed range of up to 273 miles!
Even the new smaller battery is bigger than the outgoing models!
    Hope you enjoy!

This has been a great review, Dave. You are right, I love my mk1, as you know. I think I’d agree with you about the battery size. I am more than happy with the rage of my car. Getting to Wales from Boston was a breeze. The 200 mile range of the new 51k/Wh version should be more than enough for most people. Folk always think they need more miles than they do. One thing I have found is that MG are quite conservative when it comes to their published top speed and charging speed. On a 350Kw charger I’ve seen 82Kw charging speed when MG officially claim just 50Kw with 72Kw mentioned in the handbook.
As a car for disabled drivers, like myself, it offers much better space for wheelchairs and entry and exit is great.
I think you’ve nailed the review. It’s a well balanced level of driving, equipment and long distance comfort.

I have had my 2022 MG ZS EV LR Trophy for 3 weeks and really love it. The range is pretty accurate, i did 118 miles on the motorway at 70 mph with the air conditioning on full (34 c temp) and used 41% battery. Very little re gen on the motorway. Total of 638 miles and charged it twice myself.
The only issue i have found is that it can be difficult to disconnect the charger cable, as it remains locked even when the charging has stopped and you press the unlock icon on the screen, but i am sure i will get more proficient at that as i use it more. Great review by the way.

You can, I think the same switch that you alter the mirror angle also folds the mirrors, I was curious about this also as live rurally and lanes mean this is needed for drivers with no spatial awareness flying towards you lol

I was going to trade in my Nissan Leak 40 kWh next year in 2223 for this model, but now no sun roof so will start looking around again. The rest of the car I like as a man who has had 6 Nissan Qashqui’s you can see why I like the design of the MG, I did over 100,000 miles in my Qashqui I just wish Nissan offered it as a EV. I personally think this is a temporary measure to deal with the current influx of orders they have for the ZS.

In Australia is listed as 'Front Grille Garnish' & so you could check with your dealer. I though it a bit pricey & this one also has an awful red border around the whole thing. Probably more straightforward to have it wrapped, just like the original promotions from some dealerships.

Ordered my Trophy Long Range in March ‘22 & still waiting… Don’t think I’ll see it until December at the earliest. There are a lot of external issues affecting this delay, but MG aren’t covering themselves in glory with zero information to customers & customers are becoming frustrated and cancelling their orders, but rather than giving them to customers who are waiting for their cars, some dealers are selling the cancelled cars to new customers for more profit & allowing them to queue jump… Not good 🙄😩🤦🏻‍♂️

MG have done a decent job but I feel they haven’t quite nailed it for the price increase. Still no extension from the steering wheel, not particularly efficient, lack of headroom in the back, no regen in cruise control. There’s about a £5000 differential between this and the new Kia NiroEV spec for spec. However you can get into a base trim NiroEV (2) for about the same price as the top spec ZSEV - I’d suggest you’d be better off. One pedal driving, a smaller battery but the identical or better range so much more efficient, better infotainment, better interior quality, more room especially in the back, a small frunk, regen on cruise control, optional heat pump (add £1K but worth it IMO), 11kW onboard charging and fully adjustable steering wheel. Step up to the mid spec Kia (about 3K more) and you get pretty much everything you get on the top spec MG and extras. Is anybody comparing these 2 vehicles?

Took one for a test drive recently. It’s OK, although when you put your foot down the front end shimmies from side to side in an alarming fashion. It’s quiet too. BUT when you really start to look at in detail you realise the MG has quality issues. For one thing the quality of the interior is truly rubbish. It’s all very well having lots of features for less money, but you have to feel comfortable in a car you’re going to spend any time in and you won’t with this. The seats are cheap, the centre console bashes your arm, the trim around the doors looks like black masking tape, the seatbelts just go into bare metal on the floor, and the park assist camera gives such a weird fish eye view as to be almost useless. I was nearly tempted in a ‘value for money’ sort of way, but then I went and sat in a Cupra Born in the showroom next door and the quality and feel was simply in another universe, and not for a huge amount more. We were also told that to cut costs further the sliding sunroof option for the MG would be discontinued, which is a shame as this for many people might make up for the other shortfalls. I would also say, and this is just my personal opinion, that the MG is one of the most bland looking of EVs on the market. I think I’m going to save the extra and go for something a little more polished.
