      @@FoamSquatch That's reassuring. The majority of manufacturers that were once known for impressive performance cars with manual gear boxes have decided that there aren't enough sold to "waste their time" and they've dropped them from production. A "dual-disc paddle-shift" doesn't cut it as a manual shift replacement! I guess we'll have to just troll the used market until we can't get parts any longer.

    My girlfriend bought a red 65 or 66 Corvair Corsa while I was serving in Vietnam. When I returned home we were married, and we drove it to my next assignment at Altus AFB in Oklahoma.We packed up all our things, including her dog and drove straight thru to Oklahoma non stop.
    I remember it had multiple one barrel carbs (with a four speed the best I can remember). It gave no mechanical problems whatsoever during the trip there or back a year and a half later to the East Coast. The next vehicle we bought was a 1970 Pontiac GTO.

    • @aldolajak1267
      @aldolajak1267 Před 3 měsíci

      First of all, Thank you for your service. We seem to have forgotten our Vietnam veterans, but I always endeavor to give them their due. Their war was possibly more horrific than any other, and their return (if they even did) was met with some of the most vile rejection ever encountered by a war veteran. You sir, are in my esteem.
      With regards to your bride's Corvair Corsa, I'm wishing you still possessed it. As a dolt myself back in those days, I too, probably would have given up a Corvair for a GTO. Full disclosure: I actually abandoned a 1960 Corvair for a 1964 Ford Falcon CONVERTIBLE, and then dumped it for a 1968 Chevy Impala sedan. To this day, I am amazed that I was never prosecuted for my gross series of automotive offenses.
      As penance, I am attempting to restore a 1946 Willis CJ2A Jeep.

    Okay I will be buying my first corvair very soon and I don't know anything about them but I want this car because it's motor is in the back and it's air-cooled now that being said the Volkswagen bugs are like that too but they don't last over 100,000 mi so I've been told how many miles will a corvair engine go before it needs rebuilt with proper maintenance now change my oil every two thousand miles even these days are they better Bill and longer-lasting than the Volkswagen beetle?

    My cousins each had a Corsa, and both had the IECO 4-barrel carb conversion; is there a performance advantage to having four, one-barrels, is it just a matter of not having to tune and balance four carbs? Why choose one set-up over the other?

    • @deeferguson9272
      @deeferguson9272 Před 5 lety +1

      I was told the aftermarket 4 barrel setups take longer to warm up being higher up off the engine. Also, the engine will cut out while taking sharp corners because of the high up carb.

    What's the first thing your parents told you when handing you a camera for the first time? I'm pretty sure it was "hold the camera steady". The car was great... but the video making was amaturish at best. The camera was much too close to the car most of the time to ever get a feel for how the car actually looks in context. Next time, hire an 8 year-old to hold the camera. The results will be better.
