Isaiah 37:14-38 mentions a confrontation between Sennacherib and Hezekiah, and has God destroying the Assyrian army with plague, causing the Assyrians to return to Assyria: "He shall not come into this city, or shoot an arrow there, or come before it with a shield, or cast up a siege mound against it." Sennacherib's account differs. He mentions a siege mound he has erected about Jerusalem. Sennacherib stated that Hezekiah sent him his daughters and wives (concubines) to Nineveh as hostages, to ensure no more rebellion by Hezekiah. Jewish soldiers are also taken by Sennacherib. The Assyrian mentions the tribute, gold and silver, rendered by Hezekiah to buy off the Assyrian king and prevent the fall of Jerusalem. Isaiah 37:33 says no siege mound will be thrown up against Jerusalem but a siege mound is mentioned by Sennacherib: "raising banks of earth against the gates" (17:57 of this video). Christian Apologists tend to present Sennacherib's account as "fanciful Assyrian boasting" while Isaiah's account is the "reliable word of God." Archaeologists have confirmed Sennacherib wasn't a boastful blow-hard, he mentioned the Judaean cities he destroyed and their devastated ruins have been archaeologically verified. It is the writers of the Bible who are the spinners of nonsense, claiming God spared Jerusalem via a plague on the Assyrian army. Sennacherib mentions the tribute Hezekiah sends to him in Nineveh. Why would Hezekiah send tribute to someone who's army had been destroyed by plague from God? There was no plague! Sennacherib increased the tribute on a defeated Hezekiah. Hezekiah's own troops desert him for the Assyrian king! "Thus I reduced his country, but I still increased the tribute..due..to me as his overlord which I imposed later upon him beyond the former tribute, to be delivered annually.. Hezekiah...whose irregular and elite troops which he had brought into Jerusalem, his royal residence, in order to strengthen it, had deserted him, did send me later to Nineveh, my lordly city...30 talents of gold, 800 talents of silver...his own daughters, concubines, male and female musicians. In order to deliver the tribute and do obeisance as a slave he sent his personal messenger." (pp. 200-201. "Sennacherib the Siege of Jerusalem." James B. Pritchard, editor. _The Ancient Near East. An Anthology of Texts and Pictures_. Vol. 1. Princeton University Press. 1958). Isaiah 37:37, "Then Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went home and dwelt at Nineveh." We are informed his son Esarhaddon succeeds him upon his assassination by his sons Adram'melech and Shar'zer. Eshaddon came to the throne circa 681 BC, the Jerusalem siege was circa 701 BC, the 14th year of Hezekiah (Isa 36:1). Roughly, 20 years elapsed from the Jerusalem siege to the assassination of Sennacherib. According to Sennacherib, during those 20 years, he received annually, tribute from Hezekiah. Had there really been a plague, Hezekiah would have told the Assyrian "to get lost," there would be no tribute or royal hostages, and if the Assyrian dare show his face again, God would destroy his army with another plague!

The Bible never says anything about " thou shalt sing with no instrument" .... Just one glaring inconsistency in Churches of Christ... They are known for that now... Knowing and quoting the Bible is not the test of being genuine.... Satan quotes God's Word.... Loving God with all your heart, min, soul, and strength and your neighbor as yourself is...

The Bible claims Jerusalem is spared because God destroys part of the Assyrian army with plague. Sennacherib claims he spared Jerusalem because Hezekiah's soldiers deserted him, to save their lives, and accept Sennacherib's terms he gave, before the siege, promising them their lives if they deserted Hezekiah: "Make your peace with me and come out to me; then every one of you will eat of his own vine...fig tree...cistern." (2 Kings 19:31) "Hezekiah...whose irregular and elite troops which he had brought into Jerusalem, his royal residence, in order to strengthen it, had deserted him.." (pp. 200-201. "Sennacherib the Siege of Jerusalem." James B. Pritchard, editor. _The Ancient Near East. An Anthology of Texts and Pictures._ Vol. 1. Princeton University Press. 1958)
