    I've been trying this technique on a practice book over the past few days. It's shocking how much stain I have been able to remove. I'm really blown away by the positive results. Gonna try spot HOP with a tack iron next.

    great book, great channel. I did my FIRST double HOP last week, but only used RO water, without H2O2 (that's the next step for me), bot LOTS of gunk off! this is amazing! the book is a GREAT GREAT resource. thx for th videos as well, I'm more of a visual learner, so I am using these videos with the book to make sure I'm doing all that I should be doing.

    Wonderful to see something new. I do something very similar but use UV light on the book for 4 hours per side being whitened. I also use 6% diluted to 4+% on the H202. This method look promising as a "do it all in one shot method". I do UV peroxide then press with mositure after wiping it down before the press with clean water.

    Thanks for posting this. It was good to see a slightly different approach to what I've already seen on other posts. I do like this technique and as a fanboy of the Marvel Silver age, I've got plenty of book that can use a good cleaning other than just a dry cleaning, which I already do. In your Peroxide mix, would distilled water be a better option than just tap water? May I ask what brand of heat press you use? Seems like a 15 x 15 size is most common from what I've seen. Thanks again. Best to all.

    That book could be a 2.5-3.0 but if you look at any guide it doesn’t “scream” to be fixed up. No matter what you do to it - it’s a $200 book, whether it’s .5 or 3.0 it’s value is $200. I guess it’s a good example for a video.

    So basically your finished comic retains hydrogen peroxide within the paper in absence of a washing treatment having been undertaken?

    • @TopComicsPressing
      @TopComicsPressing  Před 4 měsíci

      No. Peroxide breaks down w heat and time naturally. It has a first order decay. Your just damaging the paper w extra superfluous washes

    The pages are still clearly yellow though! CGC would not give that a white pages score. Yea you might have taken a very small percentage of yellowing off but nowhere near complete. This method might work for a book with slight yellowing bit definitely no grade bump would occur when grading this book.

    • @TopComicsPressing
      @TopComicsPressing  Před rokem +1

      You would def get a grade bump. You can get very high grades w cream to off white pages. The page quality almost never impacts the grade unless brittle

      I have had good luck w/o needing to do so. Peroxide naturally decomposes to water and oxygen. The heat from press destroys most of it and after 2nd normal press, I bet it’s all gone

    What if, during the removal of the sheet after press, you also see color being slightly removed from the book? Too much peroxide? Paper too wet? What is the correct % mixture of distilled water and peroxide in the mister? 50/50?

    • @TopComicsPressing
      @TopComicsPressing  Před rokem

      I do 50/50. I have had problems w color lift w some book even w do water only. So I don’t think it’s a issue w peroxide. I think sometimes the ink is already compromised. If you catch it before peeling, you can rewet the sheet and prevent some lift. But, the color lift is what makes this a risky process

      @@chrisojeda7377 I cannot comment on what will or won’t earn you a purple label… only CGC can do that and they won’t ever give a straight answer. If you look at the grade book for what they use as tells for cover cleaning, it does list washed out color, but, it t does not give dxamples

      It varies by region… believe it or not but the same paper is not the same paper. In the book we suggest 20lb printer paper - just be sure if you most it the water absorbs instead of beading up on top. If it beads up, that’s a problem. Need it to soak in. Other than that anything should work
