- Just a quick video expressing my personal theory/hope that Amy Rose is unlockable in Sonic Origins. It's a long shot, but hey, a guy can dream, can't he?

If Sega really wants to appeal to young girl then Amy is their best bet, she could have Advance style gameplay or Modern Style.

This is what's wild to me. We have 1) An actual in game appearance in a "mainline" 2D Sonic game and 2) No less than 3 2D titles to give a firm idea of what her gameplay should be like.
Ray was *only* ever playable in SegaSonic Arcade. Likely the only reason anyone cared about him was him being paired with Mighty/the Chaotix in archie. Like - I am glad he came back and the games gave him some love.
But Amy's been done so dirty.
Just please let Amy perform Spin Attacks and Spin Dashes. It should come natural with her being a hedgehog.
My daughter would also get a kick out of a playable Amy, but this is Sega. The animated cutscenes are already above and beyond my expectations for this collection.

There’s leaks for a possible metal sonic dlc down the road so who knows, maybe if we ask enough and make it known then they’ll make an amy dlc🤷🏻♂️

There's room for 2 more slots, so Amy and Metal Sonic could both be! Especially considering both their prominence on the key art. Mighty and Ray could also fit since they were already programmed as playable in-engine via Sonic Mania, but would be less interesting

Maybe they can be unlocked by what he mode you play like getting Amy would need you to finish the classic mode and metal sonic for completing the anniversary mode
I mean, she's literally in the character artwork, seen in multiple shots in the trailer and is a very popular character, so I do really hope she's playable
Didn't really stop Kairi from being barely playable in last two songs in Melody of Memory. I'm kinda expecting same with Origins at this point. Unless it's revealed she's unlockable. 🤷🏻♀️

Amy is one of favorite Sonic characters, and I wish she was playable more often. It would be cool if she was an unlockable character in the game. It looks like there might be two unlockable characters, based on the size of the empty space in the character select screen. Just have to wait and see.
If we're going with the two-character theory, Mighty & Ray seem the most likely

My 5 year old is currently into the new Kirby. Like, she _loves_ it. She loves Waddledee Town and putting Kirby in bed.
I reckon she'd love Splatoon though!
Our daughter wants Kirby for her birthday, but has currently misplaced the Switch, so hasn't been able to play the demo!
Funnily enough my 5 year old sister has also been a huge fan of Kirby recently, my parents even bought her a kirby plushie It's nice to see my sister being a fan of the same franchise I am LOL.

Praying that Amy is unlockable in Origins. Sonic Mania could have had her in the Mania Plus DLC, but you know, "No Girls Allowed". Origins would be a big opportunity, and I think she'd be a fun character to play as. And maybe if you can play as her in Sonic 3, it could be the first time we see Super Amy as a thing.
To be honest, nobody has thought up of Amy being playable.
agree. I love Amy’s design, and what they did to improve her personality in Boom (the show). Really hope they bring her back
Amy's personality can swing quite a bit(pardon the pun) but while some games like (unfortunately) SA2 and Battle let her down, I really like her overall, she's just an over the top, overly enthusiastic Hammer girl who's semi-matured into the "Reasonable one"
They turned Amy into a grade school councilor who has to have everyone sit down and talk about their feelings. I'm sorry but that's not who Amy is where back in the Adventure era she would chase Sonic, but she'd hardly that much of a fan girl to let him have his own way, what putting herself between the blue hedgehog and Gamma insisting for the blue hedgehog to stop. Plus she was eager to fight Tails' honor in Riders, remarking about Wave "being disguising" when the swallow was trying to shatter the fox cub's confidence over his Extreme Gears, rather than looking at sticking to Sonic's side like glue.
Outside of exceptional The Sidekick, which felt like a completely different show to the rest of it, Boom is pretty overrated being more content to revel in its mediocrity as if its afraid to take itself seriously. How else can you explain "Tomatopotamus/Sonic never worked in 3D" being other than "hey, you think I'm a joke, I KNOW I am a joke! Oh, please like me, PLEASE!" I miss when series was allowed to have abit of self respect about itself between 1991-2009, even if it did make a few stumbles along the way...
amy was already an amazing character. boom amy is a complete different character

@@wallowlight I know right, it is sad that due to how poorly written she, and the other characters have been in Meta Era that people tend to forget just how good they were that they suddenly start claiming that Boom, or the movie, fixed this character as if they were never good to begin with. Like saying Boom Tails is actually a fighter, despite the fact he stood up to Eggman alone in the games and even Shadow in X when he was the only person standing between Cosmo and the Ultimate Lifeform
I think Amy should be playable, I mean it’s perfect and I love her classic design. I hope they add her they also missed there chance on adding her in Sonic Mania
Amy also had some in the 1990s too. So she deserves to be playable.
Well, she IS in the animated scenes there. If she is playable, I hope that she doesn't end like the original Tails who plays exactly like Sonic despite having the ability to fly.
But if she DOES become playable and unique, then Sonic Origins will have more value than just being a remaster.
They can just give her her Sonic Advance 2 moveset 😐

Amy is such an established part of the main crew at this point, heck for years now since Heroes, Advance and Sonic X arguably, that I'm amazed Sega has never truly capitalized on that aspect outside of Boom, and has relegated her to the background and supporting roles in the games what a shame.
We are over due for classic amy to be playable! I'd love to see her come back in a way like how she played in Sonic Advance 2 with all those cool attacks, but this time I'd give her back her double jump from sonic 06 and sonic battle, as well as her hammer jump from adventure 1, advance 1, and generations. That way, she'd have a totally unique feel to her.
Giving her a spin dash might be nice too, but i kinda like that "hard mode" feeling she had in advance 1 without a spin jump. However, a spin jump and a spin dash would be more appropriate.
It would be cool to see her playable in Sonic 1 - 3.

If they were big brain enough they'd do an "Encore" mode, except instead of Mighty and Ray you get Amy and Honey.

I’d want Amy to be playable in Sonic Origins. She can be an unlockable character or DLC. It’d be interesting to see how that could be incorporated in Sonic CD, since she’s supposed to be the Damsel in Distress. Maybe playing as Amy could mean that Sonic is the one that’s captured instead.
Either way, if her gameplay style could emulate her style in Sonic Advance 2 (Able to spin jump, but with her hammer as an additional attack), that’d be fantastic!
They could give her the knuckles treatment if you play as her in CD where she takes different paths in stages like knuckles does in S3&K
Sonic CD is all about time travel, so isn't really against any sort of lore that she has to rescue herself!
I mean in Sonic 2 playing as Tails by himself isn’t considered “canon” so having her be playable in CD would probably just be something like that

@@brandonwilliams6119 technically she's done that before in sonic chronicles, in sonic chronicles she was the strength character that smashed map obstacles, not knuckles. also she was mystic with her tarot cards too in said game. she was even the other powerhouse heavy damage dealer besides knuckles even.
I really hope they go the SRB2 Route, you can unlock Fang, Metal, and Amy by beating their respective themed levels/bosses. (Fang isn't in the main trilogy + CD but you know what I mean) It would be so cool to finally play as more then just the main trio in the classic games! (Chaotix technically, but you could argue it's a spin-off)
I don't know why they bothered to feature her so prominently in the marketing if they aren't going to make her playable.
Well actually, I know why. It's because they want to seem more gender neutral and potentially hook some girls into playing. But since she's not actually playable, it's just false advertising.

I find it very likely that Amy will end up being a secret unlockable character and possibly Metal Sonic as well.
Yeah this is the reason I like the Sonic Advance games, they really made all 5 characters (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and Cream) very unique to play.
Honestly for Classic Games I would say she still can do the basic spin dash and stuff, but she can use her hammer to smack enemies next to her (and in the air) like how Knuckles was given a punch in Mania, and also give her Hammer Jump from the Advance games that springs her high into the air
The hammer jump would make her a lot of fun to use. Maybe even a double jump like in sonic battle / 06! It would give her an edge around the other 3 characters that way.

I'd love to see Amy playable officially in the classic series, and her big boost in the marketing leaves me slightly hopeful.
I will note however that, depending on what route they take her gameplay, she'd likely be much harder to implement than Mighty or Ray. Amy's trademark is her hammer and I can tell you that in order to make a new ability or animation besides spinning interact with objects, usually EVERY SINGLE OBJECT in that category has to be edited separately to recognise it. I have little doubt this was the reason Amy wasn't made playable in Mania despite similar marketing with her for that title, since it would likely be a far more elaborate coding process than a normal spinning character like Mighty or Ray.
To be honest, I'd be okay if amy's hammer attacks didn't make her spring jump hire if the trade off is having her playable at all (though, i do like that quirk a lot so i hope they implement it if she is playable). As long as she plays similar to how she did in advance 2, I'd be happy. I'm worried classic amy might be too slow if they base her off advance 1.

@@justice8718 Heck, Advance 2 Amy was almost a reskin of Advance 2 SONIC. The only difference was her hammer attack.
@@RyutheWeredragon Advance 1 and 3 amy are also far more optimal and even innovative for 2d sonic than almost any chracter in the advance series because of how complex and flexible her move set is. Amy has the absurd speedrun potential of Sonic when mastered and the creativity and flexibility of Mario's modern move set. She can break the game so hard, bosses need to be altered to withstand her wrath.
@@justice8718 To be fair, Advance 2 had to redo Amy's moveset because of the level design being less platforming and more "gotta go fast". It still doesn't justify her being a 100% unlockable, that was scummy.

Is funny how almost 1 year ago you did this video and yesterday Sega showed us that this upcoming Sonic day (june 23rd 2023) this will be real (after you get the updated collection or the DLC upgrade if you already bought it last year), is a great day for anyone who wanted Amy in Sonic Origins (myself included, not gonna lie).
Honestly it would only make sense because we have playable characters from every sonic game in this collection except Sonic CD.
We have Sonic from Sonic 1.
Tails from Sonic 2.
Knuckles from Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
And...no one from Sonic CD.
Amy would be perfect for that spot.
Also to be honest the best Amy is the one from adventure, and I genuinely hope they bring that Amy back, along with having her in Origins, maybe she will be a secret unlockable character, maybe DLC, I don't care how, I'll take it, if Mighty and Ray can come back AND be playable, it's not too farfetched.
If I remember correctly Amy was a secret unlockable character in Sonic Advance 2 so it wouldn’t be the first time. I have a strange feeling she won’t be though. I’d be happy if I end up being wrong though haha

I'm sorry, but there is a great possibility that amy rose and metal sonic are in the trailer because they're from sonic cd, not because they're playable.... and i could also imagine that if there are new playable characters, it's probably gonna be mighty and ray since they're fully fleshed out already..

I feel that they will keep Amy (if she’s playable) as a secret or later DLC, OR WE ARE JUST HOPING THAT SEGA DOES SOMETHING SMART AGAIN
I hope she’s at least DLC or a secret unlockable character if nothing else. I still don’t think she’ll be in it since she wasn’t in Mania, but I guess we’ll just have to wait until the game comes out to find out. Putting her with the other three characters certainly doesn’t help that confusion though… In any case though, finally getting a remaster, let alone rerelease at all of Sonic 3 will always be great news. Now new players of the series like me (Yeah I know, surprising) won’t be missing out on anything and left behind.

As someone who has Amy and Tails as his favorite characters it always bothers me why fans or the creators tend to exclude Amy out of any level of prominence. I mean she's well established as Sonic's player 4, you could even make an argument than over time she herself became an extension of Team Sonic. (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy the 4 Protag) Since she's always featured with Tails and Knuckles as Sonic's main crew, yet for some reason she is always left out or replaced of the adventure for more popular characters like Shadow or Ray/Mighty and while the inclusions (especially the latter two) are fun and engaging editions I always question why Amy is left out, is it because of her polarizing reputation with the fanbase? Because it feels as if the creators always seem to sideline or forget about her importance, despite being marketed as the 4th main character of the franchise and the leading female.
Sure he only MAJOR role in the classic games was a damsel in Sonic CD, but like, that's no reason her role she be reduced, since she's no longer playing that role. Many classic mods include her Sonic Advance moveset with tweaks so you have a 2D style for her that works. Plus Tails campaign in Sonic CD 2011 was after Sonic saved Amy, so couldn't Amy explore Little Planet after her rescue? I personally hope that she is hidden as an unlockable extra or comes as DLC, otherwise it feels as if they actively neglect using the character for whatever reason.
On the bright side, it looks like she might be playable in Sonic Frontiers soon! I love Amy and I’m hoping they’ll continue to expand on her good aspects in the future. :,)

When I first saw the trailer all the appearances of Amy and the appearance of coins made me think Amy might possibly be a purchasable or unlockable.
I really wanted her to be playable since she was in the logo. Like why would they do that if she wasn't.

would really be disappointing if shes not in. as silly as it sounds shes one of the biggest things pushing me to buy the game or not ...especially if you are playing on PC. Her moveset in the advance games (and the mods for sonic mania) is a blast
Just got an Ad of Sonic Mania Plus when rewatching this video.
Maybe they'll make Sonic Origins Plus as a physical version of Sonic Origins where she'll be playable.
Mighty and Ray should definitely be included too. I think there's enough space for the both of them.

The Rom hacks do such a great job and I love sonic 3 with Amy and Cream. Sonic classic heroes with the Chaotix team is also one of my favourites. Surely they can have an expanded roster and if not for this, then want about a follow up to Mania?
Maybe when or if she's playable, they could at least add in her hammer jump from the advance games. How she runs and you press B while running and she gets some serious air.
Yeah, i think classic amy could be fun if she had her hammer jump while grounded / running and a double jump to help with platforming. She could be the middle ground between tails and knuckles that way!

@@dragondelsur5156 Well it works like a spin dash, but her revving up hit box is different from a regular spin dash and it's not called a spin dash so technically, it's not a spin dash even if basically works like one.

It kinda sucks Amy isn't going to be playable in Origins, I guess its down to fans to do what Sega don't, again, and mod her into the game, like what happened with Mania which gave her a few new trick with the hammer vault and glide (as a well a full 3D model for the special stages). Also I see Knuckles will not be playable in CD which also sucks, as when you consider there is mods that not only makes Amy playable in that game but also Knuckles as well.
Also I really don't get why you can't tailor Anniversary mode to your liking, especially when you consider Jam back in 1997 not only gave you access to the Spin Dash (or not) in Sonic 1. It also offered numerous difficulty settings across the four games (1/2/3&K) as well as the option to turn off the time limit.
I suppose there will always be youtube for the cutscenes and you can save yourself 40 bucks.

If by some chance Amy does become playable in this game, then I have to ask... would she be able to use the chaos emeralds to enter a super form? It sounds fanfictiony as hell, but it would be weird if the secret unlockable character couldn't use the power-up all the other characters can use, so it would just make sense from a game design standpoint. Besides, it technically wouldn't be the first time, since Sonic the Fighters exists and has every character enter a super form for the final battle, Amy included. I could see the devs avoiding that can of worms altogether and just having it work like Tails in Sonic 2 where Amy would be able to collect the emeralds but all it gets is a better ending, but still, I thought it's worth bringing up

I didn't even think about the extra space in the character select. Now my hopes are up.
