    Many of us have a linen garment hanging in our closets, and we usually wait for the hot summer months before dipping into this distinctly soft and breathable material. But when it comes to linen bedding, there’s more to consider! Will it keep you warm in the winter? Is its characteristically coarse texture soft enough for sleeptime? Well, there’s only one way to find out.
    In this review, we’ll be taking a close look at the Woodrose Linen Sheet Set from MagicLinen. This sheet set is made from 100% linen and has been stone washed, so I’m going to dive into this bedding and figure out what I love, what I’m not so crazy about, and for whom these sheets might be most beneficial.
    WHAT ARE THEY MADE OF?
    Like I said, these sheets are made from 100% linen which is derived from natural flax fibers. So, sleeping on a fabric that’s naturally and sustainably sourced is a nice, eco-friendly perk.
    Unlike some linen sheets, this set is not blended with cotton or any other textile byproduct. So, these sheets do offer a distinct feel that only pure linen provides. That said, linen fibers are thicker and produce a stiffer yarn (compared to cotton, for example) so the texture of these sheets is going to feel very crisp and almost coarse in nature.

    Very accurate description of linen. I purchased a white set from west elm. It’s not for everyone. I prefer using cotton bedding with a linen duvet . I find it quite rough on the skin but I sleep under the top sheet so I make it work. I hope it softens once I wash it.

    You stated linen is known for being breathable, however, you didn’t refer to these sheets directly. What linen sheets are the most “breathable” you’d recommend? I’m not to concerned with texture... At least I do not know. But would like something in this price range to last long and be worth it. Thanks

    Hi,
    I'm really lost trying to decide between linen, supima cotton, and tencel type sheets. Does Sleepopolis have any resources where I could learn more about how to decide?

    • @Sleepopolis
      @Sleepopolis  Před 5 lety

      Worry not, Mitchell - Sleepopolis is here to help. For starters, check out our Ultimate Guide to bed sheets here: sleepopolis.com/blog/bed-sheets-ultimate-guide/
      You'll find a breakdown explaining the feel and quality of linen, Supima cotton, Tencel, and more. Though, to give you a quick idea of how those three compare: linen (sleepopolis.com/sheet-reviews/magiclinen-sheets-bedding-review/) is very breathable, and slightly more coarse in texture. Supima cotton (sleepopolis.com/sheet-reviews/casper-sheets-review/) is a particular type of cotton that many regard as high quality, known for being super soft and durable. And bedding made with Tencel (sleepopolis.com/sheet-reviews/tencel-sheets-review/) the trademarked name for Lyocell fibers is usually very smooth, cooling, and moisture-wicking. Happy shopping, Mitchell, and thanks for reaching out!

      Get stonewashed linen sheets and supima cotton sheets. I have pairs of both and I enjoy switching them out and enjoy the variation of experience between them. It's almost like slipping into new sheets every time I switch them out. The best supima sheets are at Macys; 680 thread count Supima cotton. If you get them on sale you can get a set for around $180. These are the nicest smoothest sheets you will ever have. It's like sleeping in butter. The best linen sheets are at Parachute. So soft and great color options. They also really take care of their customers. All the best -G

    Hi I want to know should I get these sheets or the Casper sheets I sleep hot all the time.

    • @Sleepopolis
      @Sleepopolis  Před 5 lety

      I'm a hot sleeper as well! Both the MagicLinen sheets and Casper's Cool Supima sheets offer cool breathability, but the feel of each is quite different. Personally, I found both to do a great job of keeping me cool, so if I were you, I'd determine if you prefer the coarse, gently massaging texture of linen or the silky smooth feel of cotton. I will also say that linen is thermoregulating, meaning it adapts to your body's temperature. So, linen can serve to warm you up when you get cold, while Casper's Cool Supima sheets are pretty much always going to keep you cool.

      I think they are priced quite nicely, over here we have a huge number of companies that now sell washed linen. If it’s mixed with cotton it’s called linen union.
      Most are stone washed not just to soften them but due to the weave they would be fairly rough until they had been washed many times over the life of the linen.
      Good linen should be cool to the touch and super slippery and the secret is to find mills that produce these using weaving methods that have been practised for decades but as they all differ it’s jolly hard to find one that you like and will see you out and be passed on to the next generation.
      I tend to purchase pillowcases to test the quality then decide from there as they are the cheapest item of bedding.
      Marley if it helps I’ve found you have to pay for good linen, 200 would just cover the price of a single pillowcase if you wanted very fine linen but they are not stone washed, you would need to wash them over a few years before they really shine.
      Don’t forget Marley that while linen is strong the techniques used to soften linen also shorten its life span as they have done the work that may have been required over a 5 year period if you had owned them to make them as supple as they are.

      Honestly MagicLinen is REALLY overpriced. There are several other Lithuanian companies on Etsy and I've ordered samples from all of them including MagicLinen, and I find them to be better than MagicLinen with higher gsm and denser weave, and also more color choices. For example LinenDi has 41 different colors and better linen, and yes they are all stonewashed and customizable, and cheaper as well. MagicLinen is probably the most expensive Lithuanian linen bedding company that I've found, probably due to all the advertisement costs.
      If you want something cheaper, linen bedding from Belarus is about just as good quality and much cheaper.
      If you want pure luxury linen LinenStudioRG on etsy sells real 100% pure Belgian linen (flax grown, weaved in Belgium). Of all the companies on Etsy that does hand made customizable linen bedding (no additional cost for customization), that one is the best and really just about 60-80 dollars more expensive than Lithuanian linen depending on what you will get. It's based in US (cut and sewn in US), and the linen really is the best out of the 200-300 price range for a set of sheets/duvet cover. I bought a king size duvet and a queen size flat sheet from that company, and you will see the huge difference: the fabrics are weaved from very FINE, high luster linen, weaved densely and uniformly, stonewashed, and you can enjoy the softness without having the wash it new out of package. They don't have as many color choices as MagicLinen but they do have several very beautiful colors. I find their bluish gray to be very unique (color not same as the bluish gray colors from Lithuanian companies) and that's what I have
      If you want even more luxury I was quite impressed from Linoto based on the samples. They have thicker linen, but the organic one are very soft and high luster. Expensive though.

      Luceafarul try McCaw and Allen which is Irish if you really love your linen and if you buy from Europe look for the Masters of Linen stamp which guarantees that you are buying a pure European grown and manufactured linen product.
      Try to steer away from stone washed products, this is only carried out as the linen used tends to be a rather open weave and will have a rough feel. Companies like Libeco simply wash their linen and Libeco are also Masters of Linen certified so you know it’s grown and produced by them.
      If you want Italian linen then Zigzag Zurich uses an Italian mill and produce some very nice linen and they will also do custom work. They are also Masters of Linen certified and the linen is washed and they offer several different weaves.

    • @luceafarul579
      @luceafarul579 Před 5 lety +2

      Minpeace 5$3 master of linen stamp is a consumer scam that inflate the price sometimes by 10folds, which is why only big corporation brands have them and independent, private ones don’t, even though the quality is the same. Not only that, for more independent handmade shops you can order swatches and if you are experienced with linen like I am you would recognize real Belgian or Italian linen and the density of the weave.
      What you said about stonewashing is used on more open weave linen is absolutely nonsense. Stonewashing can be used on any fabric and I’ve seen many linen of high density high gsm weight linen that are stonewashed. Linen from LinenStudioRG for example is extremely soft and it’s 175-185gsm densely weaved and they also have 205gsm, both are stonewashed and they are very soft-I don’t even need to wash them right out of the package, can just use them immediately. I really think you need to open up your horizon a little and do some serious research. Don’t just look at big long established companies, look at small independent shops, you would be surprised how good the qualities are and not needing to empty your pockets
      I do have Irish linen, it’s a vintage piece from an Irish family who has been in the linen trade for generations, which means this Irish linen, unlike modern ones, has the flax grown and weaved in Ireland by native Irish people.

      @Minpeace Před 5 lety

      Luceafarul the prices for Libeco and Zigzag are very cheap, no inflated prices and the certified stamp does not increase the price.
      My companions family are involved with Irish Linen hence why I love it but a McCaw and Allan is mighty expensive compared to other Irish mills like Thomas Ferguson. Irish mills have their own certified stamp with a clover leaf.
      A single oxford pillow case in a 1400 range is around £150 and flat sheets are in my size are just a tad over £600 each and a duvet cover is £1200.
      Irish linen is what we call a traditional firm finish, it needs an iron and more so with Thomas Ferguson linen.
      Zigzag is a small company that uses a small mill in Italy and they are pretty close to Irish linen but with Irish linen the weave and finishing is simply outstanding and with McCaw you will have lovely mitred corners.
      If you fancy trying a McCaw then search for Givans, they are part of Samuel Lamont who owns several mills and outlets. They are made to order and you want the 1400 range. I’m afraid they only do white as it’s a traditional linen but once you have tried it nothing else comes close.
      My companions family also had the Irish branch of an old English motor manufacturing branch of Morris in Portobello along side radios and laundry businesses. They even rang electric vans as part of that service which only now are we seeing a return to this. So yes I do have a rather unique insight to linen from my companion side and she does not rate any off the linen I’ve tried from abroad as she’s use to the traditional linen finish.
      You will find
