Hey Wyatt!
Great interview Mickey!
🙏
If you grew up in late 60s 70s, for most of us, by ear was the way we learned. Listened to radio and records, memorized the melody, figured out how to play it, trial and error. I still do it that way today.
I’ve been saying this all along. I started 2 years ago, and it’s all on from CZcams and Tab, and I’m super weak with ear training.
The Monroecroscope 😂😂
Chris is one of my favorite musicians and people. Hope you guys enjoy this interview with a true bluegrass legend.
Mickey is a really good interviewer, he gels so well with whoever he is talking to.
Thank you! Chris and I go back over 20 years.
Great to see Chris in the spotlight . He's a total legend
I concure!
Thanks for mentioning Everett Lilly, Chris! ❤
These are two of my favorite teachers! Both are fantastic! Chris is also an expert of the traditional bluegrass lead guitar style!
I love this interview. Chock full of great advice and ideas.
4:17 Great Interview. Loved learning more about Chris, Wyatt Ellis, (a regular at the Alan Bibey camp in MB the past couple of years), and Stash Wyslouch.
I really enjoyed this interview. I loved finding out about Chris Henry. Not only is he a talented and interesting fellow, he seems like a nice guy.
The video editting is getting better and better, amazing!
I remember those instructional videos very well probably around the late 80s. I Pick them up at a music store in Statesville North Carolina called Harry and Jeannie West. 😀😀 Man, those were the days…..
Great interview! Yes The Henry’s are all great! I’ll never forget hearing my husband learning Polly Wolly Doodle through The Murphy Method on guitar. Love it!
So glad you enjoyed the video 😎
Music all the way indeed!!
if i could magically play 1/2 as good as any bluegrass player, it would be chris henry
You should hear him sing in the medicine world
Great stuff. I need to work on that learning by ear skill myself. Thanks gents.
What a great interview! So insightful and enjoyable to watch.
Thank you 🙏
Worth noting that the melody is usually written first in old time fiddle and usually contextualized later by guitarists
All humans are autodidactic - we observe how something can be done, then we teach ourselves to do it.
Wow
Guys I need help. I have a decent ear and basic guitar skills. I’m trying my best to learn how to play bluegrass on guitar. Not really anyone in our area to jam with or learn from. Any advice - getting a little frustrated.

“Is someone going to come along and play better than Chris Thile?”
Sierra Hull: “Hold my beer”
I think Sierra herself would dispute that.
There should be no ' Someone is better than someone else' conversations in music. Just my opinion .
