I, Steven Solway, was The Official Tour Guide and full time paid employee at the NRRM from 1984 to 1989. And the train conductor plus the Groundskeeper, along with the many other volunteers of the H.O. Model railroad club inside HOOD JUNCTION STATION, and the local chapter NORTHWOODS of N.R.H.S., And many other model rr clubs in NORTH-EAST WISCONSIN (N.E.W.). like the live steamers club that wanted to rebuild the mini 20th Century Limited.
But the NRRM was being controlled by the Outside Management Group from 1980 to 1986 who decided to Scrap and Destroy numerous trains; like the Steam crane from the Appleton Paper mill; and the 1934 orange PLYMOUTH CENTER-CAB GASOLINE-ELECTRIC 2001 Nicknamed "MIGHTY MITE" from Missouri that was donated in 1961 yet broke by 1964 instead of pulling the coaches around the short circle of track. Also the Pickle car with 4 large wood barrels. And the Outside Management Group also ran off the Original H.O. Model rr club that was sitting in the old wood baggage car on the South side of Dutchmans Creek when this club met on Thursday evenings for almost 15 years. Then as this Outside Management Group was 🔥 Fired in 1986, the H.O. Club returned to build their new model in the HOOD JUNCTION DEPOT; but only until 2008 when yet Another new manager decided to Evict them by force within 90 days OR ELSE: be charged with Criminal Trespassing by police!! Thus the H.O. Club was forced to vacate the Depot after 19 years!! And move into the Library basement in DePere!!!!! Soon that manager in 2008 was Fired himself!! Because the NRRM also sold 7 Diesels!!!!!!!
EMD F7 ABA from WSORR and WICT RR un Janesville, later shipped to Branson but unusable; and Donated to NRRM in 2001; but lost again to the Shortline in Michigan but sitting outside in Severe winter snow blizzards for the last 16 Years; yet with Vast Potential to rebuild for Excursions.
EMD BL-2 (2) also from WSORR, but owned by famous collector Mr. M.; LATER sent to New York for FULL RESTORATION AND new paint 🎨 for both Excursions and freight with many videos on CZcams!! (But just imagine how Exciting if they had been rebuilt for NRRM and the small circular track; and also mainline Excursions for Packer Football 🏈 Fans travelling South to Chicago Bears 🐻!!)
😢 sadly New York rr was bancrupt. But sold to Ohio and running successful new Excursions!! CONGRATULATIONS ‼️ 🎊 👏 💐 🥳 ‼️
MILWAUKEE ROAD 38A, E9am from Chicago commuter pool, and sisters like 37a in Illinois Fully Restored!! But 😢 sadly 38a was derelict and stripped and very rusty; but the Board decided to Scrap and Destroy!! 😢 Sadly 38a represented the "CHIPPEWA" trains running North to Upper Peninsula of Michigan until 1968. History LOST!!!
Diesel G.E. 1950 era 44 ton center-cab used at the Paper mill; yet Originally ST. PAUL UNION DEPOT, S.P.U.D. switcher in Minnesota; but Sold secretly; mysterious location and owner?????
NRRM, since 1984 to 2008, has LOST 37 trains: some known: others Mysterious???
Yet: NRRM has 9 Sisters in steam; but also displays:
    M.R. 261 running in Minnesota. +
    M.R. 265 display in Illinois.
Soo 2719 in repairs in Duluth.+
Soo 2718 display in Green Bay.
    C&O 2716 repairs/ Kentucky.+
    CO 2736, Display/Green Bay.
    Up.4014.running/Cheyenne.+
    4017 display/Green Bay.
    Brit.60010 running England 🇬🇧 +.
    60008-IKE- Display/Green Bay.
    LSI 18/+23 2-8-0/18.PA+/23:NY+.
LSI 24: DISPLAY IN GREEN BAY.
    USARMY 101.KOREA. DSPL.GBW.
    USA 🇺🇸/shortline/ Run-Texas.
    Ashwaubenon 25 0-4-0T/ Mich.++
    BRILLION PIONEER 29 0-4-0T/NRRM.
NRRM was started in 1959 as the "SHRINE TO THE AGE OF STEAM THAT BUILT UP AMERICA 🇺🇸!!"
😢SADLY: NRRM is left FAR BEHIND, LAST PLACE.
    TIME TO CHANGE!!
    GET TO WORK AT NRRM!!
    GO FOR IT!!
    HELP US PLEASE?????

6:30 you are correct, RRHMA is restoring UP 3985, as well as UP 5511. They have also restored the Centennial 6936 to operational condition.

Thanks for the S3 video. In '82 my wife and I were married in the cab of 265 at IRM. Cool video, thanks much!

I am glad to see that two examples of this class were preserved ( engines 261 & 265) and Milwaukee Road 261 is a famous steam excursion locomotive with a decent operating history. Two examples of the S3 class were preserved however I do wish that at least one example of the Baldwin built S2 type 4-8-4 locomotives was preserved as well, as the S2 class were the heaviest & most powerful "northern" types ever owned by the Milwaukee Road.

I believe this was the same locomotive to visit the Twin Ports many years ago. I just happened to be visiting my relatives at that time and I had to finagle my way( I didn't have a reservation) to get a seat for a ride up the north shore. As the locomotive struggled to climb out of the city, I made the mistake of poking my head out from the vestibule to catch a glimpse of the black smoke blasting upwards from the stack. It was then that I caught a tiny piece of ash in the my eye. It felt like a glass chip as I tried to remove it. From that point on, I made a promise to myself that I'd bring along a pair of goggles whenever I was boarding a steam-powered train.

I remember the steam trains stopping in Waukesha Wisconsin, about 25 miles west of Milwaukee. I believe it was a water stop. My parents knew a station employee (station built 1880's still standing) and would bring me and my sisters to the station to watch the trains come in (often fill with water). I would wander around the massive engine I totally awe. Several times my father handed me up to the cab, I could smell the steam but also the smell the scent of hot oil, the doors to the firebox glowing red fascinated me. On the south side of the tracks was a huge stone building, Fox Head Brewery, when the engineer blew the whistle as the train started moving the sound would echo off the building. It was truly memorable.

Thanks. They probably went right below my house on the River Sub above Winona. That was the double track main between Chicago and St. Paul.

I saw 265/Smokey at Union last year. She's very nice to look at even with the boiler jacket off. The S3 Northerns were just that little bit stronger than the S1 Niagaras and the S2 Super Niagara cuz of the smaller drive wheels. And yeah, 3985's being restored back to life again.
