  • This video is a Super Thanks video that tells us about the Backbone of the Chicago & Northwestern Railroads Class J 2-8-2 Mikado Locomotives. Of which some where call "War Orphans" by an anecdotal account. These locomotives served the War efforts of BOTH World Wars. And remained in service for more than 4 decades.

Another stalwart engine on the C&NW,was the Class Z 2-8-0! Those engines were ubiquitous, and along with the Pacifics, and Ten Wheelers, they kept the lighter rail lines going, during the war! Later on,out in the Dakotas, the Alcos did the same in the diesel era! But that's another two or three videos,on their own! Thank you 😇 😊!

C&NW was much like the New York Central, hardly any of their steam locomotives were saved and the ones that were saved was because somebody else owned them after the "Cheap and Nothing Wasted". Another great video, thanks much!

I dont think I have heard of the c&nw, but I belive I have seen the logo in passing now that I looked it up, yea dont know much about it, now mind you though I have heard of the legendary chicago and rock island and pacific I think was its full name, you should do a video on their engines or railroad, you say the steamers made it almost 50 years yea used to be said 50 years with a steamer is just broken in, but many upon many saddly were lost to to chisel, torch and steel mill
