Those beam rods are really expensive, cost alot of money, i like the way you elaborate the processes, some people classify those rods in numbers. Rod 16, 14, 12, or 10 etc. Kerp up the good job. Inspiring & motivating
Yes our most costly phase in the project is the iron rods and casting of the first floor slab. It was essential to get the structural integrity right. We can now take a sigh of relief and keep pushing forward. Our next big job will be the roof 😅😅😅
@@princenikki that's right. Everything else can be renovated but the structural integrity can't be fixed if not done right. I personally spent more on iron rods, concrete casting and damp proofing because it can't be fixed when not done right.

I will recommend using a wall chaser instead of chisel&hammer to not compromise the structural integrity of walls. It's hard to come by though. I have one and it makes clean cuts as well.
Also SDS drill when you really need to chisel
Thank you for your comment, sure we will certainly be using wall chasers when we come to installation phase. This particular job was a minimal cut for the sleeve.

25mm diameter bars in a 150mm deep rc member (so called secret beam?) looks a bit suspect from a structural design point of view. I hope you had a qualified/registered structural engineer design your structure. it is very important to make sure the person doing the design has the proper qualifications. make sure the engineer who's stamp is on your drawing actually designed the structure. what is being done does not look right and it will be even more worrying if a qualified engineer did that. loading that much rebar into the so called "secret beam" will certainly reduce the ductility of the structure which is crucial in a seismic zone. it doesn't offer any real benefit in terms of deflection either. you can always hide beam downstands in within your ceiling void.
Thank you for your comment and concerns over the structural integrity. The design and the construction process is regularly monitored and supervised by myself the structural engineer responsible for the whole design.
The slab reinforcement is based upon structural concept and calculations of deceasing the compression and increasing tensile zone. What you can’t see in the video is the calculations and additional tension bars used in the reinforcement to deal with any movement in the main beams and slab. Overall deflection is not expected to exceed acceptable tolerance level of 25mm and all walls are load bearing and included a special designed sheer walls.
With regards to the 25mm iron rods you see in the video above was not for a normal 150mm thickness slab but rather for 225mm thick slab. This particular slab was constructed to the structural design specifications
The 25mm high tensile bars were used in the slab of 225mm thickness to take care of the deflection of the long span the client want since the client didn’t want beams to come from that point and all these were designed by myself the structural engineer to meet the client’s requirements and it was constructed and directed by myself to achieve.

Ghanaians are lucky there is no Earthquake in Ghana. Putting PVC pipes in the Reinforcement Beams is just waste of your money because you are weakening the Reinforcement.
Hi nice to see you are back again. Yes, anything through RC beams without a proper consideration would undermine the structural integrity. However, in our case, we used 10 -20mm sleeves through the beam on a load bearing wall along the stair core for electrical cables to the first floor.
A sleeve is the best option, rather than cutting through beams at a later date to run cables.
All works were carried out under the supervision of our structural engineer. Where waste pipes run horizontally, we ensured that the specified minimum concrete coverage of the reinforcement were met. Watch out for our next video on casting where we talk through a key check lists before casting.
@@princenikki It doesn't matter how you try to do it. Putting PVC pipes in Reinforcement beams is a bad idea. You are building a big house but cant find a small space to out your PVC pipes? 😉
