Thank you for the information. I'm an RN but Neuro is not where I worked. My brother has a severe motorcycle accident w/TBI and DAI. Unfortunately he could not have an MRI due to shrapnel in his body. But it was obvious it was a very traumatic injury. He lost his gag, no response when sedation reduced and we eventually removed life support with his death within 20 minutes. TBI's/DAI's are horrible, horrible injuries. Thank you for sharing information to help families understand these injuries.

My brother fell from a height of 250meters. He's diagnosed with TBI & DAI. He opened his eyes after 4 weeks its been almost 3 months that he's been in the hospital but showing very little response... His right frontal and temporal lope are injured along with the basal ganglia. he's been on and off the ventilator for a few weeks but now he's having respiratory problems and is currently fully on ventilator support.. I wonder why is that the case ?

Thank you for your question. That can be very difficult to predict, however, as the severity of each injury is a little unique.
