Spiders use diffusion to deliver oxygen to their body tissues so the cold weather in the high mountains on top of the thin air would severely limit how much oxygen could be delivered to their muscles. This would mean that the silver spiders could only move about very slowly so it couldn't catch the poggles (and even if they managed to ambush them odds are the poggle would kill the spider in the fight).
