as a retired gang member here in SoCal i can say that if you went back into the history, you would find that the majority of gang wars all started over a girl. There are a few exceptions but not many.
I'm from Cali too and I remember hearing in the 80s the biggest thing that kicked off the gang war were some gangstas started beefing over a woman at a party.

Facts most people I met in county jail the few times I went back in the day for a month or so at a time it was always people with mostly domestic violence or stuff related to a girl they were messing with. They was always the guys waiting to go to prison. There’s like a couple guys here and there on the cellblock that maybe had a gun case but the majority was breaking no contact orders over and over
