    So remember that Mike on our Wyoming life shade other reasons for doing the c-section on that cow. It had nothing to do with calving trouble. The cow had slipped in the water and was going to die so he tried to save the calf. He has only pulled one calf do to size. Out of his number of cows that's not bad.

      One can be too many for people that are not experienced. With this breed, i've talked to other ranchers that have them and have the same size herd as Mike and have never had to pull a calf. This was not throwing any shade or insults at Mike by any means but anyone that watches his channel (us included) sees what he can go through and can turn them off from cattle. Just used him as an example to help people that there is an alternative and much better breed for calving issues.

    Enjoy your videos. Hope to get a place in the country myself someday. Those lowline Angus are great cattle. Do yo feed you angus cows any grain? Also like your Jersey cow as well. Is she a standard or mid size. She looks very content. I have heard how angus lowlines birth very easy. Irish dexters are great too. They are a great dual purpose from what I have heard. But those lowline angus deserve merit as well.

    • @CoffeeCowsNCurls
      @CoffeeCowsNCurls  Před 4 lety

      We only feed grain to help train the cows other than that they are grass fed. We have a mid size jersey and a mini-jersey as well.

      I bought 2 lowline yearlings, bull and heifer, 2 years ago. Both times the calf just seemed to come out of nowhere, I never saw any sign of the birth. I sold the bull calf at 13 months for what I paid for both of the parents. He was bought by a guy 200 miles away for his new herd bull for his lowlines. He said he had raised Dexter before that, but the lowlines had so much more weight on them as yearlings than the Dexters did, and that was why he switched. My bull is awesome looking

    So here is a (probably stupid) question....
    Might be different breed related or just a South African thing, I don't know...
    But how does the cattle running when you call affect the meat?
    From a bunch of OLD farmers I've spoken to here in SA, I've gathered that a running future steak will become a tough steak? Old wives tale maybe?
    Congrats on the calf and also Jayden's born day!

      @SoilMatesofGeorgia Před 4 lety +1

      Running a few feet like that for their little treat doesn’t matter. They stroll most of the day. It’s not like they are in the range running from predators all the time.

    • @troyfritz3962
      @troyfritz3962 Před rokem

      if you butchered the cows right after it ran yes you could possibly see some issues with meat quality, but just calling them to get feed is ok

    Thanks for the video guys when you say low low Aberdeen cattle are you referring to the Australian lowline Aberdeen breed? They look very similar.
    Cheers

      @CoffeeCowsNCurls  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes.. Here in America the name was changed to American Aberdeen.

    • @AustinPetow
      @AustinPetow Před 3 lety +1

      Yes the American Aberdeen cattle are originated from Australia I show them we had changed them name because when you hear low you think low quality so that is part of the reason we changed it.

    How much land do you run them on and how many do you have? They seem a lot smaller then angus, I know nothing about that breed you have. They definitely seem more calm then angus lol.

    • @CoffeeCowsNCurls
      @CoffeeCowsNCurls  Před 2 lety

      They are much smaller! We had about 18 on 20 acres and they are very docile!

    So Aberdeen’s are smaller angus cows that do better on grass?

      exactly.

    • @brittneys4001
      @brittneys4001 Před 4 lety +1

      You can put 2 cows/2 calves on just an acre of land and they do way better than a full size cattle. Plus you get more meat % back when processed than a full size cattle.

  • @gtgodbear6320

    Can those cows be used as dairy cattle? Will a female allow you to milk them after weaning the calf? If so is the milk any good?
