    Act 1
    Part 1: ‘Prologue: The Wise and Foolish Virgins’. Translated the Liturgical Game from the 12th century, or rather re-elaborated Vítězslav Nezval on its themes. The story of the ten virgins (Mt 25: 1-13) who await the coming of the Lord. But they foolishly take little oil with them into their lamps. When the Lord comes, their lamps do not burn. Foolish virgins are looking for oil, and in the meantime, the far-sighted and the burning lamps enter the feast with the Lord, and the door closes.
    Part 2: ‘Mary of Nijmegen’, Flemish theme from the 15th century was prepared by Martinů originally according to a French translation by a Belgian writer and playwright Henri Ghéon, until later he received a translation of Vilém Závada and adapted the score. The beautiful Mariken will be seduced by the devil on the road of evil. But in a small town she sees a play about Masquerade and the Virgin Mary and repents, for which her soul is redeemed.
    Act 2
    Part 1: ‘The Nativity of Our Lord’ An assembly of various folk texts of many Christmas games.
    Part 2: ‘Sister Pasqualina’: In this section, Martinů compiled the legend of Sister Paskalina, translated by Julius Zeyer, but supplemented it from various other sources - commentary texts from the Latin liturgy, but also from Moravian folk poetry. Paskalina, who left the monastery for worldly love, is sentenced to be burned on the border for the murder of her beloved, but from where she is saved by the grace of the Virgin Mary.
