  • We recently saw the Magic Happens parade and were inspired to talk about some of the past costume that Disney has created for the Disney princess, Aurora. Starting with the Sleeping Beauty film, we will cover all of the main costumes from Disney on Ice, to films, to the parks costumes over the years, and landing on the Magic Happens parade.

    It would be a dream come true if they kept that Magic Happens dress around as Aurora’s main dress for the meet n’ greets; I’ve never seen a dress that’s embodied her so perfectly before in not just color but also shape. Her dresses are always either too pointy or too plain, that one was PERFECT!

    oh her dress in the "magic happens" parade is made with shot silk. as in you have one colour of threads in one direction and another in the crossing direction, it makes it shift between the 2 colours depending on what angle you see it from. I'm surprised they hadn't used that in more dresses as it would have been perfect way to keep up the blue/pink changing.

    Her blue dress has always been my favorite. I've just always loved that it's different and it's not your typical princess Thing by being pink. I also love that it pulls the gold out of her hair and it stands out more than if she was in the pink one. So I fear that they don't put her in the blue and as much because it clashes with Cinderella's. First of all Cinderella's was supposed to be silver, second of all when it does translate to Blue it's more like a washed-out blue where they are trying to make it look as close to Silver as they can but it is still blue. It is still way different from the shade of blue of Aurora's dress and if they are talking about dress confusion by color then why don't they say oh we can't put her in pink because it'll clash with Ariel's dress

    • @LordofFullmetal
      @LordofFullmetal Před 2 lety +6

      Cinderella's dress was changed to blue so it wouldn't look like a wedding dress. It was originally silver, you're right - but it has canonically been blue since I was a child, at least fifteen years ago.
      As for Elsa (because someone mentioned that) the white "dress" isn't actually a dress. She's wearing leggings and a skirt. It's also not her MAIN outfit - her main outfit is the blue dress from the first movie. That's the dress you see in marketing. The white outfit more serves the same role as the wedding dresses from other Princess films, or Kida's Queen dress from Atlantis - it's a brief change from the norm.

      @MarilynMonday Před 2 lety +3

      Aurora was always in blue at Disneyland in the early 00s, but guests kept thinking she was Cinderella. They changed to pink and guests call her Barbie. Dumb to change it for that.
      But blonde hair + blue dress =
      Cinderella
      Aurora
      Alice
      Elsa
      so I get it.

    The Once Upon A Time dress for Aurora was my favorite. It was a nice combo between the blue and red which was lavender, which I think complimented the actresses red hair perfectly. Plus I noticed how her crown and hair style changed a few different times from being kinda flat on her head to like an average tiara that had a nice placement with her hair. Also the details on her dress were beautiful and went nicely with her kingdom which was like a island almost desert looking type area

      Example: go back to animation and go back to doing fairytales. There are so many good fairytales to use!!!! And from around the world!
      Do a story about a brother and a sister (we have not seen this). The story I would recommend for this one is of Ivan and the firebird (change the lover for a sister and they work together).
      Do a story of an older more mature princess... like princess Yenenga (she is amazing! Like original mulan amazing!). She is not only an older princess, but! She is also pretty modern too as she did everything she wanted to do (studied, went to war, knows to fight, is independent) before she decided to settle down and start a family.... on her own! Instead of being forced and such. It was all on her own terms and by her own choice which is something we don’t usually see. (By older princess I mean she is around 27-29... which would be nice to have)

      Aurora looks better in blue, unless a really pale pink which your video showed some lovely examples of shimmery light and flowing pinks. Pink and blue together is jarring I think. One of them is pretty, but not both together. If they did a pale pink with accents of yellow for spring, that would be really pretty though.

    From what I've read in the research I've done, Aurora's dress was officially made pink the parks and marketing (until fairly recently right? They have her in blue a few times now?) but they made it pink because they made Cinderella's original silver/white dress from the film, blue because Disney didn't want their Cinderella dresses to be misconstrued for wedding dresses being sold to little girls. So they made it blue to prevent any confusion. Which in turn changed Aurora's dress. I definitely prefer the blue for Aurora regardless and the white/silver for Cindy.

A little fun fact: each dresses for Princess and pirate were based on a flower (was it was created for spring 2018) Belle had roses, red poppy for Snow White, water lilies for Tiana... and Aurora had Fleur-de-lys, symbolising french royalty ! Truly I love they finally made her match with the men’s puffy sleeves around her to push the historical fantasy vibe (even if they’ve gone very late 16th century with it). I like like how they have her decorative chemise coming up around her neck so that the dress can stay off the shoulder instead of choking her. *For me, Aurora dress is pink because in the original cartoon/animated film even if the dress is blue most of the time it should actually be pink because in the medieval dressmaker book from which Flora drew inspiration it's pink and the original fabric was also pink before Merryweather intervened. Aurora's dress is also pink in the finale scene when the storybook it's about to close. Both Belle and Aurora have the rose as a flower that identifies them and in nature roses are red, pink, white, yellow and orange...there are no blue roses in Nature...blue roses are artificial. In my opinion, Mr. Walt Disney should have made Aurora's dress violet like her eyes or a two-tone dress both blue and pink ;)*

    Dude since i was a kid I ALWAY said it was blue because it was mostly blue in the movie lol, then pink became my favorite cause of the parks, and the only thing i have ever heard as to why they choose pink was because they wanted her to stand out more and she was constantly called cinderella due to the color similarity’s, no clue if its fact cause i wasnt born then but that is always what i hear. Now, ARE HER EYES BLUE OR PURPLE!?!

    Just wanted to add that the Pitates and Princesses Parade ran for 2 years. The first year is the one without the turtleneck because it was a spring/summer season. The second year they made a winter version of it because the season got moved to the winter (that is the dress with the turtleneck they used during the Christmasseason).

    There's also a 1992-1997(?) Mickey's Magical Book show in Disneyland Paris and it features a very different Sleeping Beauty dress. It's more like inspired from the early concepts of the film. There's another in Paris (again), in their 2000s christmas version of the parade where the famous stiff Aurora dress was also turned into white and gold.
