East Broad Top Returns - 60th Anniversary Weekend

- The third weekend in August of 2020 was a historic one for the East Broad Top Railroad for a couple of reasons. August 13 was the 60th anniversary of the railroad becoming a tourist-hauling line. That same day also marked the first tourist trains over a portion of the line since its demise in 2011. To celebrate this anniversary, the narrow-gauge railroad held three days of short excursions over a portion of the restored trackage, as well as shop tours (and trolley rides with the Rockhill Trolley Museum, but that's another video...). By early 2021, the railroad hopes to have at least one of two steam locomotives under restoration to be completed and track to be restored to Colgate Grove once more. In the meantime, enjoy this look at M-7 pulling a socially-distanced passenger train, as well as shop tours in Rockhill, PA - as the East Broad Top Returns and the 60th Anniversary Weekend takes place!
Wonderful to see the EBT back in operation. I have been to the EBT minimum 5 times since the mid-60's and toured the shop, but the most exciting part was to see the belts, gears, machinery operating. WOW!
It fills my heart with joy to see the EBT finally reopen!

Simply amazing that the line shaft stuff is working at all. Nice work of preservation. While the railroad its self is an incredible gem, that shop is beyond belief. The fact that it exists and can be viewed is such a window into times long gone.
Very much! I don't know if they plan to restore all of the items connected to the line shaft, to run via steam as well. Or if only select things and run on compressed air. Either way, it's very fascinating!

With all of the preservation that happened last decade with such steam main line stars such as Southern 630 and 4501, N&W 611, and Union Pacific 4014. The Return of the EBT was best way to kick off rail preservation in the 2020s. June of 2021 is going to be a great year for this railroad. The return of a legend.

Right now, no. They don't own the tracks into Mt. Union itself...

It's crazy that this narrow gauge line has been survived so many closures and reopenings.

@@Bigjimvideo I saw where Pennsylvania gave them another grant for the purpose of reopening more of the mainline. Something else that I find interesting is the fact that they recently acquired one of the Newfoundland Railway's observation cars from a museum in Nova Scotia, it'd be awesome if they put narrow gauge trucks under it and used it for excursions. That's a major part of narrow gauge history and it deserves to return to it's roots!
I've made deliveries in that area. I am very happy to see them come back.

The only bright spot of 2020! Wished I could have been there, but I didn't want to impose on the railroad since its seemed they had strict rules with crowds because of the pandemic. Its amazing to see how much progress has been done already in the restoration!
There's been a few bright spots...not as many as we'd like, but a few...R&N F-Units, a few steam operations here and there...

Why is steam train 15 not running
Because it's not currently operable.

I don't know if they'll be open then, and if they're not scheduled to be running trips, make sure you check first to see if it's ok to go on the property...
