That final scene of Illidan facing down Sargeras becomes so much more epic when you realize that the last time Illidan and Sargeras were "face to face" (in a sense) was ten thousand years ago...and Sargeras then proceeded to burn out Illidan's eyes.

Illidan, he sacrfised everything he had in order to save Azeroth, and how did we repay him? By assaulting the Black temple and destroying everything he had.. After that, when Gul'Dan summoned him, he didn't have to help us, but, he forgave everything bad we did to him, and lent us a hand in fighting the Legion. Now, he stayed behind to fight Sargeras and finish him off once and for all. The woman he loved so much always thought that he is a bad guy, and hated him, his sworn brother wanted him dead. He knew that he had to sacrfise all that in order to safe his pepole..

That's because Legion was the best expansion. The story was engaging and the gameplay was good.
foreal though, legion was peak wow for me. I never felt more connected and closer to the characters and the lore of WoW playing any other expansion (granted, I was younger and not as mature for the earlier expansions). The only time in WoW's history that I could even compare that feeling to would be wrath. Legion just had a particular vibe to it I can't describe and it hyped me up to the point that I nolife'd it for it's entirety from start to finish.

Illidan is an awesome character, but lets be for real. Why does every franchise have a power scaling issue, and can't just find creative ways to write new stories in the world they created. A medieval fantasy world isn't enough, instead you need cosmic beings and a giant fucking sword stabbing into a planet? That's same cringe anime vibes and it's not Warcraft. Hearthstone felt the most "Warcraft" since Wrath and Cataclysm.

WoW story is going around in cycles, so perhaps in the future there's gonna be something like that Warcraft 3 thing with Tyrande releasing illidan from his prison? Like - we go to face the Void Lords, but we can't do it alone... and there is only ONE guy, who knows how to fight them - Sar... ge... ras... And than - eventually - Illidan would end up like Maiev chasing sargeras all over the universe and shouting at us how stupid we are?

I'm not too surprised by the ending of BfA, as everyone is kind of a phased chosen one with raid buddies being the support, but I'm hoping since this was from 7.3.2, that we'll get a proper sendoff in a later 8.3.X.
I really, really hope so...because float-beam-N'Zoth dead is just a terrible way to end things on so many levels.

@EnDroxX - Completely agree. Nothing but a show of virality for vanilla with that comment. Vanilla had no central story. It had disparate factions across all it's patches that resolved nothing, and only leads to further events in the game. Hell, with the *possible* exception of Ragnaros, every raid boss in vanilla is a subordinate to a higher power. Even C'Thun was created by and does the bidding of the Void Lords, who we have yet to see.
It would be like reading through Lord of the Rings, then saying 'A Long-expected Party is the 2nd best chapter in the series'. Completely ignorant of considering the epic moments of dozens of other chapters across the books.

I came here after seeing the world soul saga cinematic.
Illidan was always my favorite raid boss and held a special place in my heart as he was my first real raid boss i spent months getting attuned and i was sad to see him die in TBC but i loved that they brought him back for Legion and finally got a Hero's ending like he deserved.
The quality of the CGI and the art team's ability to create perspective of scale in the Blizzcon 2023 cinematic was INSANE.

Amazing moment. Illidan is by far one of the greatest characters in Warcraft history, sad to see him go, but hopefully we'll meet again some day.
I interpret it as Velen, who relied on fate and prophecy, buying into Illidan’s view that fate isn’t set in stone and that we have the ability to forge our own destiny

This is essentially the end of the Warcraft storyline for me. Sargeras and his Legion was always the main antagonist, and now that threat is over.

No, his soul was devoured by frostmourne. He is pretty much as brainwashed as every undead raised by the Lich King. His mentor and love interest deserted him for his choice to purge stratholme (which was the best choice given the circumstances). And in the end, his soul was claimed by the evil he tried to protect his kingdom from and was used as a tool in its downfall.
to me this felt like the end of the Warcraft story. the burning legion / sargeras was built up since orcs vs humans and after we defeated Sargeras and the burning legion our characters should have retired to our favorite zones and logged out for one last time

The timing of the Legion expansion was actually fitting, because we defeated the final Enemy in the last expansion where Blizzard still had some control. They told their story and left, just as the Pantheon did.

Illidan's story arc is one my most favourite in wow. This end closes his story forever and closes the chapter of the Burning Legion in Warcraft.
Death is not meant to be the closure of Illidan's story, as he could always return. Illidan being locked inside the Seat of the Pantheon with the Titans as the jailor of Sargeras is Illidan's final sacrifice and what he was meant to become.
No bro, I think they gonna recycle Illidan soon enough. Blizzard let that titan sword get strucked at Azeroth for a reason. Its more like a trace of Legion present in Azeroth.

What I love most about this scene and hate is the fact that I actually have to say farewell to Illidan, it's not an easy thing to do since he is one of my childhood heroes, he sacrificed so much and more than any could fathom, after all the pain, torment and suffering and enduring it all he finally gets to shine and have his place in the spotlight and truly he owns that moment,
I will truly miss him, but this a fitting end of a true hero!

I know, right? Azeroth's factions united briefly to take down the Burning Legion once and for all but rather then continue to work together to take down the Old Gods and the Void once and for all, they turn on each other....... D'oh!!!
It seems to me like the Old Gods and Void Lords realized "Uh oh, now that the Legion's gone, the races of Azeroth will come after us next so let's do things to pit them against each other!!" and it'll work at least for one expansion. By the end though, both sides will realize that they'd be duped and stop fighting each other to do what they should've done in the first place, take down the Old Gods, Void Lords and anyone who supports them.
After that kind of stuff, i begin to think that may be Void is kind of right on some matters.
Everyone thinks the Void can be "beaten".. it cannot. It neither lives or dies - It exists outside of the cycle.
I'm not saying destroy the void, just keep it in check by taking out the Old Gods and pushing the Void Lords back into their dimension.

Man, this could have been the perfect ending for wow, the legion finally defeated, the races of azeroth living at peace, with maybe an epilogue expansion about finishing the old gods problem, but instead we got BFA and SL and the story makes no sense anymore. It really saddens me what happened to wow u.u

Well according to the devs the Titans just froze themselves in their thrones, so no. Technically Sargeras isn't "dealt with", they just kind of hit the pause button. Illidan decided to freeze himself with them so that he would always be there to stop Sargeras if in fact he were to somehow return. So Bliz left an entire section of lore open to future manipulation if necessary.
Illidan didn't freeze himself only the titans are weakened Illidan might seize this opportunity and subject them all and take their powers

Malfurion and Tyrande are the true villains only persuing their own virtues like Illidan proved he was the true hero willing to do anything for those he loved, no matter the sacrifice.
Seeing Velen acknowledge Illidan despite all the "wrong" he has done was so cathartic. Illidans little grin is perfect. Never in a million years did I think someone like Velen would be maybe the only person in the story to understand illidans greatness. Such an awesome cinematic.
Whole cinematic is rad as hell but I honestly just like Velen's sigh at the end, as well. Poor guy has been running from the Legion for 10,000 years, constantly worried about the safety of him and his people. And now he can *finally* rest. Like, imagine the relief the poor guy feels now.

my theory is that sargeras wanted to kill azeroth because worldsouls are easily corrupted by the void lords (old gods masters) and in the new 3 wow expansion we will see how azeroth borns as a titan learning in the path that titans are not all good
