    The novum brand of sewing machines was very popular in Ireland in the 60s and 70s.
    They regularly come up for sale on Done Deal an irish online website selling secondhand goods. I've seen them for as cheap as 30 euros.
    Yes they were manufactured here in Ireland back in the day.

    Hi. Great videos, thank you. I have a Novum sewing machine (model: Novum 2000) and there is a wee plate on the side which declares that it is made by the Janome Sewing Machine Company Ltd in Taiwan as designed and specified by the Novum Sewing Machine Company UK. It’s fairly ancient but a beautiful machine (and weighs a tonne!)

    Great video! Thank you so much for showing this great machine. Also for all the information! I loved to sew on my Singer 15, although there was no zigzag and no reverse sewing. Beautiful stitches! Unfortunately I did not have enough of space to keep it. Thanks again, greetings!

    I have a bit of a mystery machine of my own. It's called a Zephyr and there is very little information about it. There are lots of them about but very little information on them.

    • @CurioByBSpokeDesigns
      @CurioByBSpokeDesigns  Před rokem

      I've come across Zephyr machines before. It appears that the parts were imported (Possibly from Germany) and assembled in the UK by a company called Universal in Birmingham. Other sources say they may have originated in Belgium. They are certainly something of a mystery.

    Got one very similar to this - used to be mum's but dad sometimes used it as well. Weighs about the same as a small car. Was about to take it to the council tip and decided to see if I could find out anything about it before I did so.

    Thank you for this video, best I’ve seen for this class of machines. I just purchased a Japanese made vintage (1960’s) Stradivaro Deluxe Push O Matic with no instructions. What brand of needle do you find works best with the Nocum? Mine has the similar face plate. Thank you!

    Hi, I’ve recently purchased a Novum Mk1 and although it’s like new, there appears to be an issue with the upper tensioner which I’d like to restore. I’m aware that this machine is based on the Singer 15 but would you have and tensioner setting advice for the Novum Mk1 as there is only a quarter turn on the numbered dial? Thanks

    • @CurioByBSpokeDesigns
      @CurioByBSpokeDesigns  Před rokem +1

      I would take it apart and clean it thoroughly - I have a video about restoring a Singer 15 and the tension units should be similar.

      @@CurioByBSpokeDesigns Stripped it after watching your video and found the small tension spring wasn’t bent out beyond the backplate. I’ve straightened it a little and it’s now working (off sorts…). Would you know the part number of a replacement spring and where from? Thanks again Ken

    In 2020 I bought a janome new home/novum sewing machine almost identical to this
    From what I know janome produced these under a few names
    The only difference between mines and yours is that yours has a motor and mines is hand cranked and also the feed dog and stich controller
    Another major difference is mine was quite literally smashed to bits by hermes

He went on to sell the machine for parts whilst I used my money to buy a 1901 frister and Rossman hand crank that's been working amazing ever since (I've sewn through 20 layers of denim on it without a trouble)
