  • MICADO (elt.eso.org/instrument/MICADO/) will be one of the first-generation instruments of ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope (ELT - elt.eso.org/). MICADO stands for Multi-AO Imaging Camera for Deep Observations, will take high-resolution images of the Universe at near-infrared wavelengths. This makes the instrument ideal for identifying exoplanets, but also for resolving individual stars in other galaxies and investigating the mysterious centre of the Milky Way. This documentary will give you a unique behind-the-scenes look at how MICADO works, the challenges of designing such a complex instrument, and how it will change our understanding of the cosmos once it’s operational at the ELT.

    Amazing to think of all the hard work people across the world have done for this and the discoveries you will make.

    So much progress since the start of La Silla Observatory ! I look forward to the first astrophysical tests and results of this giant telescope.

    Thank you for this video, and all this information. I also have to commend you for picking a really good, calm and clear narrator.

      The narrator did exactly what a narrator should do. He covered the information clearly and in a way that did not draw attention to himself. Unfortunately, the narration business is rapidly being antiquated by artificial intelligence narrators, who are improving at an amazing rate, and are capable of impersonating any, and all, other narrators.

    Will there be videos for the other 4 instruments ?

      These videos were commissioned by their respective consortia and we are open and interested in doing similar videos for the other instruments.

      Wish more people would learn about this stuff.
      The more we look at, the more there is to see!

      I am a US citizen and I agree.
      It has to do with US overstepping its boundaries because all US politicians (not Trump) are remnants of the Cold war mentality sort of like the Old Bolsheviks were to Russia but worse.
      They force the dollar in other nations while exploiting the lives of unknowing people who are ignorant to the fact they are being used and abused by US globalists and Trotskyites.
      I stand with Russia.
      God bless Putin.

    I would have given a 'Like' for this but for the irritating music playing over the narration. I just don't understand why that is necessary?

    • @elderbob100
      @elderbob100 Před 5 měsíci +1

      I think that the music gives the video a more cinematic (dramatic) effect than a dry voiceover. This "music" did not seem to me to be distracting. I watched it on my Motorola phone, listening to the phone's speakers.
      Maybe the production team weighed your denial of a like versus the positive effect of the background music for less discriminating viewers, or maybe the production team thought that the music would help the video win some kind of astronomy video production award for best background music in the category of large format, high resolution, high sensitivity, cryogenic infrared imaging sensors.
