  • Quadrophenia is the sixth album by the English rock band The Who. Released on 19 October 1973, Quadrophenia is a double album, and the group's second rock opera. Its story involves social, musical, and psychological happenings from an English teenage perspective, set in London and Brighton in 1964 and 1965. The name is a variation on the incorrect popular usage of the medical diagnostic term schizophrenia as multiple personality disorder to reflect the four distinct personalities of Jimmy, the opera's protagonist-each said to represent the personality of one member of The Who. The title also referenced the Quadraphonic sound schemes then being introduced.
    Songs Included:
    07) THE DIRTY JOBS
    08) HELPLESS DANCER
Enjoy the Quad. series. Feel free to comment and rate, and even feedback about my series. Thanks!

This album should be put in a time capsule to show what real music is.

I truely, honestly believe this is The Who's best album, better than Tommy, and one of the best in rock history. The arrengements, lyrics, playing, virtuosism, orchestra, everything is the highest point The Who has been. Totally underrated. It's like The Beatles: people only talk about Sergeant Pepper when Abby Road is way better. The fist time I heard Quadrophenia it was the same time I understood what the Opera Rock concept really meant.

The thing - among others - that I like about Helpless Dancer is how each line comes out of alternating speakers. It's Rogers theme (that facet of Jimmy's personality) but it also speaks of a possible split even within that facet. Like he's talking to himself or using two voices at once. Or something.

That's an easy one, lol. It's called 'The Kids are Alright' by The Who, coincidentally.
When I first heard The Kids are Alright, I thought to myself that it definitely sounds Beatle-esque. Haha.

In my opinion, this is my Abbey Road too. Second greatest album, but another one, also kind of unknown, is better. For The Who, it's Who's Next. For The Beatles, it's Revolver. I don't know, Tommy and Sergeant Pepper are decent, but I feel that they're overpraised.

Jason, thanks for not being overly zealous with the ads, it was a pleasure to listen uninterrupted. One of my favourite albums. But I may be biased because I was born in 1965, in Brighton. My parents were neither Mod or Rockers, but more like beat nicks who went on to became Hippies. Funny enough, when I was 15-17 years old I was a Mod. Cheers

Dude, I thought I posted this comment when I read it, I said almost the exact same thing a while ago... This is better then Tommy, Who's Next, etc. This is a true Who masterpiece, it truly is often overlooked and under TOMMY's shadow. But, I kinda like it that way... it kinda makes me appreciate it more. Sometimes the gems are under the almost as pretty beads :).

Umm no it actually doesn't. When I make my vids, I make the slides that tell when the song starts, aligned with the song track. So I start it right when it starts. How does it start at 4:58? The song already began like 20 seconds before that, wtf are you talking about?
