  • A nostalgic look at HEREFORD station and the Welsh Marches Express in the 1986/91 period. Before its closure in 1993 the Bulmer Railway Centre in the city provided stabling and maintenance facilities for the steam loicomotives used on the WME, whose passengers were often treated to a change of loco when their train reached HEREFORD.

Amazing. Back in the early 80s (around 82/83 I think) before I hit my teens, my Dad and I were members of the 6000 Locomotive Association. We used to spend our weekends at the Railway Centre.
I remember polishing King George's bell and eating lunch in the member's carriage!
Sometimes when the train rides were operating they would let me wave the red and green flags down the other end of the line where the footpath crossed the tracks! I remember Christmas during a really harsh winter - standing outside warming ourselves around fire bins. Great days and a great bunch of people!
The Centre's demise was a great loss to the city but I have wonderful and long lasting memories of it. Thanks for posting this video.

Great video. I am 75, and I can just remember steam passenger trains coming into and out of my town, which was a terminal.

Was 7 at the time of this - think it was during the railway gala at Hereford? (if I'm not mistaken) :)

Hi, thank you for sharing. I'm making a video about Hereford, could I use a clip of this (and credit you) please?
