      @mypetdonkey nah sometimes kids are born like that.
      There are parents that have super well-behaved kids who barely needed to be told what-to-do. People are individuals from birth. Some are just rotten.

    • @bribri8042
      @bribri8042 Před 2 lety +70

      @mypetdonkey that’s such a cut and dry mentality to have. I grew up battling severe depression, and turned to self-harm. Never in a million years did I want others to experience my pain, nor did I ever place blame on others for my suffering. And at that same time, my parents never knew I was doing the things I was doing to myself. Though they did recognize something wasn’t right and got my a therapist and psychologist. We are deceitful individuals, and with enough shame, we will hide our traits, habits and motives. Just like a spouse who cheats on another. They know the pain and repercussions (providing they aren’t mentally stunted), and yet they carry on with their infidelity. Blaming the victim-spouse isn’t right. I fully agree and understand, too, though, that you can be a product of an environment. But to just “she’s probably to blame”, that’s an incredibly diluted thought.

    Her son went to my high school. I was in a class with him, we even worked in group projects together. I never saw the signs, but after this came out, I remembered a time in class when we did a shooting drill. We all sat in the back corner of the class in silence. I very clearly remember him saying that these drills were stupid, because “the shooter would be a student. they’d know we’re all hiding in the corner”
    I think about this almost everyday. I had constant nightmares. I saw him working at a store a couple years ago and had a panic attack right there. We had an incident at the same school only a year before where two students broke into the office with weapons. Luckily they were apprehended almost immediately, but we were still in lockdown for hours, not knowing if someone were about to burst through the door and kill us. I have so much trauma from being a student in America, and it’s the reason I dropped out of that high school and moved to an online program. The nightmares have only just recently started slowing down, and I left 4 years ago. We can’t keep living like this.
    I wish I could thank this mom. She not only saved me, but she also saved my little brothers. In the notebooks he planned to attack the school on the anniversary of Columbine. In my opinion, this was not “fantasy” he was writing. I’m sure he actually planned to do this. I still have panic attacks when I think about this and what could have happened.

      I have always felt that no parent can take 100% of the credit if their child turns out to be wonderful person, and no parent can take 100% of the blame if they aren't. That child you raised is a separate human being with his/her/their own brain, own choices, own conscience, own experiences even beyond the family/household. Sometimes you can be a very diligent, earnest, loving parent but the kid is still just horrible. Some children have grown up with terrible parents, horrific family scenarios yet go on to be upstanding, productive adults. Point being, as I see it there is an element to it all that is completely beyond what a parent can control. I hope parents keep this in mind and aren't too hard on themselves as long as they did their best to be good parents. One can only do so much and the rest is up to the individual. This is why I'm not sure I'm ok w/going after the parents of mass shooters. How can this be legal to do? Seems mostly punitive to me but isn't necessarily fair in many cases, probably. Idk what to think.

      @@sandycheeks3473Aww, thanks. My bestie is a single mom and I see how she doubts & second guesses the job she's done. She's a great mom & he's a great kid, due to both of them. Mom guilt is real but I always say, guilt is only for criminals. Loving parents doing their best are enough..💜

      It's not always the parents..Many do the best they can. At a certain age they can become more influenced by their peers, social media..a variety of of factors despite how they were raised.

    Now this is a REAL mother. I love her courage. The others are lost, confused or just as heartless.

    I'm in tears. That is SO tough but she is a hero for this. Bless her soul and I hope she heals whatever is going on with her son.

    "I'm not going to talk to you for a very very long time" ---" its okay son because I believe you will be safer in jail; thats how much I love you"---- this is so real in so many families but most families want to be their child's friend instead of their parent. prayers for this mom

      Exactly! This mom did the right thing. She's the kind of parent that will tell the truth to the media. I would've done the same thing if I had kids.
