- Smokey and the Bandit is a 1977 action comedy film starring Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Jackie Gleason, Jerry Reed, Pat McCormick, Paul Williams, Mike Henry, and the 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. It inspired several other trucking films, including two sequels, Smokey and the Bandit II, and Smokey and the Bandit Part 3.
There was also a series of 1994 television films (Bandit Goes Country, Bandit Bandit, Beauty and the Bandit, and Bandit's Silver Angel) from original director/writer Hal Needham loosely based on the earlier version, with actor Brian Bloom now playing Bandit. The three original films introduced two generations of the Pontiac Trans Am. The film was the fourth highest-grossing film of 1977.
Rich Texas wheeler-dealer Big Enos Burdette (Pat McCormick) and his son, Little Enos (Paul Williams), are trying to find a truck driver willing to haul Coors beer to Georgia for their refreshment. At the time, Coors was unavailable east of Texas. Local laws prevented it from being sold in many places because it was not pasteurized, therefore it has to be kept cold throughout transportation, thus the 28 hour timeline for the trip. Unauthorized transportation of Coors across state lines was considered "bootlegging". Truck drivers who had taken the bet previously had been discovered and arrested by "Smokey" (truck driver and CB slang for highway patrolmen). At a local truck rodeo, the Texans locate legendary truck driver Bo "Bandit" Darville (Burt Reynolds) and offer him $80,000 (over $300,000 in 2013) to haul 400 cases of Coors beer from Texarkana, Texas to the "Southern Classic" in Georgia -- in 28 hours, driving a total of 1,800 mi (2,900 km), for an average of 65 mph including all stops. (This was an artistic liberty, as the trip is only 1260 miles round-trip. Also, Texarkana, Texas, is located in a dry county, preventing Coors or any other alcoholic beverage from being sold there.)
Bandit accepts the bet and recruits his best friend and fellow truck driver Cledus "Snowman" Snow (Jerry Reed) to drive the truck, promising to buy him a new truck. Snowman brings along his dog, a Basset Hound named "Fred", for company. After requesting an advance from the Burdettes for a "speedy car", Bandit purchases a black Pontiac Trans Am, which he named Trigger and which he drives himself as a "blocker" car to deflect attention away from the truck and its illegal cargo. The duo reach Texas ahead of schedule, load their truck with Coors, and immediately head back towards Georgia. Shortly thereafter, Bandit picks up professional dancer and runaway bride Carrie (Sally Field), whom he nicknames "Frog" because she is "always hoppin' around!" and "you're kind of cute like a frog and I'd like to jump ya". However, by picking up Carrie, Bandit becomes the target of Texas Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason), "a respectable law officer of over thirty years seniority", whose handsome yet very simple-minded son Junior (Mike Henry) was to have been Carrie's groom.
The remainder of the film is essentially one big high-speed chase, as Bandit and Frog attract continuous attention from local and state police throughout Arkansas, Mississippi, and Alabama while Snowman barrels eastward with the Coors beer. Despite leaving his home jurisdiction, Sheriff Justice and his son continue to pursue Bandit, even as various mishaps cause their squad car to disintegrate around them. Bandit and Snowman are greatly assisted by a number of colorful characters they encounter along the way, many of whom are truckers they contact through their CB radios; these acquaintances allow them to escape police pursuit on numerous occasions. Neither Justice nor any of the other police officers are ever aware of Snowman's illegal cargo of Coors, as they are more interested in capturing the "legendary" Bandit.
Despite near-constant police pursuit and several roadblocks, Bandit, Snowman, Frog and Fred arrive at the Southern Classic with a full trailer of Coors and ten minutes to spare, with Cledus blazing a trail into the grounds with his truck. Instead of taking their payoff, they accept the Texans' new offer to drive to Boston and bring back clam chowder in 18 hours, for double the original bet or nothing. As they are leaving for Boston in one of Big Enos' Cadillacs, they see Justice's badly damaged car on the roadside. Bandit calls Justice over the radio, and, after a brief bit of mutual respect (begrudgingly, by Justice), Justice angrily demands to know where he is. Bandit describes himself as Big Enos in order to put him on a false lead, but then decides that Justice is "too good a man" and tells him, "Look over your left shoulder." As Bandit and his friends drive off, Justice turns to pursue them in futility with his car disintegrating further, leaving Junior to chase haplessly after his father on foot (with the closing line "Don't leave me Daddy, who's going to hold your hat?!) as the credits roll. - Krátké a kreslené filmy

Frank I just watched it again for probably the I lost count 30 years ago. Lol. Greatest cheese ever!!!
@GabaGhoul Omg....yes! I think one of my fav Jackie Gleason's lines was when he was mad at his kid....saying something like....'there's no way, no way did you come from my loins...first thing when I get home, is I'm gonna punch your momma in the mouth....(mean sounding....but was funny)! Plus, when he pulled over some teenagers.....somewhere telling them 'what not' to do on his highway. HILARIOUS stuff!
Jackie, Mike, Pat and Hal Needham too
They don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
"I just run along beside it, and drug my feet"🤣🤣🤣
My dad was a long haul driver when I was a kid growing up. I still get chills every time I hear the rig start in the opening scene. I went on several road trips with my dad and they are some of my most precious memories of him and I together. He even let me drive for the first time when I was 17 and I'll never forget it. We had just dropped a load at the Great Dane trailer factory in Savannah, Georgia. We were standing on the dock after they were done unloading us and he just casually looks over at me and says why dont you go pull the truck out from the dock and park it. I was in shock, but Ill tell you this, as I climbed up into the cab of that Freightliner I felt like the king of the world. I probably only drove a couple hundred feet but did it all by myself and will never forget how proud my dad was. It was the best feeling ever.
That's a good story

Trucking today isn't what it was when I started 20 years ago either, not even close, and it was different 20 years ago than it was 40 years ago. Glad I got out of trucking all together just 3 years ago. Smokey and the Bandit is much why I ever started driving trucks. Glad I did it, but I don't miss it. Not even a little. Only a few cast members left from the main characters of the original Smokey and the Bandit. Gone but never forgotten.
The country isn't like that anymore.

I remember coming home one night after a week on the road and seeing an advertisement for the movie on tv. Marched my ass to the movie theater and watched that damn movie. Still watch it many a time to this day. I’ve done some upgrades to my 359, it now has a Jake brake, a tv in the sleeper, and some other modern upgrades. +wolfox712 Pete's, KW's, Scania's and DAF's are all big rigs no matter which side of the pond you're on. Call them whatever you like. It's all good.
its like the back compartment of a car in north america is called the trunk and in europe its called the boot. and the front cover for the engine bay is called the hood in the usa and canada but europe calls it the bonnet.

I watch the movie and I love it may burt Reynolds rest in peace and all the rest of them who passed away in the movie.
I imagine that every adult when they look back on their childhood they have "THE" film that was definitive, the one they remember enjoying the most and watching over and over again that they never got tired of. For me, in the UK as a five year old boy in 1990, Smokey and the Bandit was that film! I absolutely love it. It sparked my love for American trucks, Kenworth's in particular, and Jerry Reed's music. While Bandit was the main character, for me as a child Snowman was my favorite, with Fred and the awesome truck! Although it wasn't until I was older and better understood the film, that I twigged the truck belonged to Bandit and Snowman was just driving it.
A truly wonderful, wild ride of a film that's fun for all! Hal Needham struck absolute gold with Smokey and the Bandit, and the film returning $300 million at the box office (from a $4.3 million budget) was the proof!
Exactly my experience with this movie. I managed to wear out the vhs cassette 🤣

This is legendary. One of the greatest action car movies of all time. Snowman is one of the finest county pickers. When Chet Atkins is one of your guitar buddies, you're doing something right.
Yup! Jerry and Chet were the very BEST of buddies!! Jerry gave Chet a run for his money on guitar!
The Snowman and the Bandit together again. The world will miss you. You will always be the ONLY Bandit. My Mom took us all to see this movie back in 1977 in Orlando Florida at a drive in movies and I fell in love with this movie and everything about it The Snowman was the more humble one of the group and I liked that he was always good to Fred. The Bandit was the bigger than life personality. Sally Field was so beautiful and Sherriff Beauford T Justice was the stereotypical Southern Sherriff that you would not want to mess with. It took me a while to understand as a kid how the Bandit was supposed to be the legendary truck driver but never drove the truck in the movie I was too young to understand the fact that in the movie this time around the bandit would be in a car . This movie was about a particular sweet beautiful much simpler place in time. The world was somehow happier then despite being without many of the modern conveniences of today. My Mom was young and strong I really miss it and I would give anything to go back to that time.

Hello, everyone out there, my name is Seattle cathey, I am born and raised in England I still live here now. I was as a young child, raised with the sound of Jerry Lee, and other greats like slim Whitman and the beautiful miss dolly parton, I would also like to say, that the music of the southern states has always when I have felt down, I put on a record.... And I can always face the day....... Thank you to you all. ..
R.I.P Burt Reynolds aka Bandit/Bo Darville 1936-2018
I love that old truck! I love this song! I flippin' love this movie!
1977 Kenworth W900 love that rig!
The best movie with the best music. Perfect combo.
For you truckers : You can just barely see the old Fuller gearshift range selector. The 13 speed Roadranger transmissions had that disc shaped knob that said LOW-DIR-OD.
Best transmission ever built
Grabbed many of a gear on those old roadranger's.
Still running one it's In the truck I started out with the truck is a 1981 peterbilt 359 with a 3408 v8 cat and the old road ranger transmissions and it's got a set of 6 inch straight pipes
One of the best transmissions I've found it hasn't let me down yet even pulling 32 tons of asphalt on a quad axle trail king bellydump
@@spencershanholtzer Man, that is amazing..I started on the old RR single counter shaft 10 Sp. in a 1964 COE Ford. Remember they had the range actuator on the outside of the trans. That was 1970...
My father was a long haul truck driver most of his life. Some of my best memories are tied to this movie and those trips I took with him. I've probably watched it a hundred times and will surely watch it a hundred more.
I drove a truck for 16 years cross country. Back in the day before the GPS has and the government intrusions into when you stop, sleep, start driving again. We could make money then all we had was a CB radio in a road atlas and maybe a local map or two. I love this video I love the movies. But yes they are movies and if you look real close because he sometimes a trailer axles are up and sometimes a trailer axles are back okay it's a movie Let It Go but I love it. God Rest his soul Jerry Reed was great
Sally Field was such a biscuit in this movie!
R.I.P. Mr Reynolds
Great opening! That song speaks the truth too. Monteagle Mountain on Interstate 24 ain't no joke. It's right in between Nashville and Chattanooga. One day I started at the top of it in a wicked snow squall and came out the bottom with light rain. They've got loads of runaway truck ramps in there. Hope they never get used!
I had to go through there around midnight in pouring rain as a rookie CDL driver ever since then there really is not much that can shake me driving on the road
My number one favorite movie ever !
My dad is a truck driver 31 YEARS He own 7 trucking moves and this is the BEST The new bandit movies suck old 10000000% yes.
