Taking Lisbon's Tram 28 At Night - Like A Roller Coaster - Pure Excitement!

- I think my favorite thing to do in Lisbon is to take the Tram 28 after the city cleared out from all the day visitors to Lisbon. The streets then are empty and if the conductor is in a good mood, he'll blast up and down the hills of Lisbon.
Disclosure: I haven't sped up any of the footage!
During the day we always tried to avoid taking the Tram 28 but luckily there are some other tram you could take instead. But during the day the train is always extremely packed.
Many seem to love the tracks intersecting at minute 3:22 ... if you remember, pay attention?
Have you taken the Tram 28 in Lisbon? What are some other trams you liked in the city. AND what is your favorite tram ride in the world? Please leave a comment!

É daí que veio a inspiração para a criação dos bondes do bairro de Sta. Teresa. Esse lugar é fantástico. Belo vídeo.
People in Lisbon must have good parking skill.
diema179 Except for that *last* guy!
Yes its normal in such countries. But in germany they would roast you park a car in this style.
In Madrid its even worse
And driving on those narrow streets as well. Trust me. I know what I'm talking about (Alfama, Graça and Bairro Alto districts).
In Valparaiso to XD
No matter how big you are, no matter how fast you're going, there's always a BMW driver who will try and cut in front of you like at 1:00.
Hahha - I just saw a statistic about what car brands have the worst driver ... If I remember correctly BMW was on the top, ehehhe!
They was taking too long to park.
To be fair, he is already visible quite far at 0:47. Still took long to park, though.
I feel them, though. I also suck at parallel parking even when I got way more room than they had.
😂
This must be the inspiration for those runaway car scenes in the polar express.
I was thinking the same thing
I’d go with that...freaked the black car driver a bit!
Yeah, that’s it.
Or the car chase in Spectre.
Was just thinking the same
Truly amazing! As a former light rail operator, I am stunned at the steep hills this little tram goes up and down, and how close it sometimes gets to buildings and parked cars. Love it! Thank you for posting!
I would love to be an operator for a day or two or even a week! Where did you operate?
in portugal, we are wild! ahahahah
The driver has the coolest job in the world!
This was my dream job when growing up.
I am going to be a Dubai tram driver......i was just selected recently. Watching this excites me more to start.
One of the drivers is also a blogger. Look for "Diário do Tripulante" by Rafael Santos. You might need Google Translate, as the blog is in Portuguese. :-)

The yellow street lights make the streets a lot more lively than it is. the narrow empty streets make it a bit eerie and night but beautiful.
Lisbon at night is beautiful - I took a video right after sunset walking through one of the oldest neighborhoods in Lisbon, if you have a moment check it out: czcams.com/video/Jl_quyOjBOQ/video.html
The street lights are not yellow, he didn't set the white balance on his camera. It was still set for day light balance.
The lights are actually yellow, also if I would white balance these yellow lights to white, all the other light sources with other color temperatures would look extremely off and would ruin the mood of the pictures / video.
Here in the US our sodium gas bulbs are being replaced by halide and LED lighting, I miss the amber glow
The street lights are yellow. Why are you talking about something you don't know?
This is the street where you take your parallel parking test.
But when you fail, instead of getting a B- you'll get a free field trip to the hospital
it’s funny until your from lisbon and you ironically take parking tests in these very streets….
Do you points added or subtracted for pulling out in front of a tram?
What an absolutely magical looking place at night. I work at disney world and so many places here strive to recreate places that look like this....but this. This is the REAL thing, people live there
It is like any town in the South of Europe
Totally agree and that's why tourism can't take over a place otherwise these people just can't afford living there anymore and cities turn into tourist attractions. I love my European Cities but I would love to document Disney World in depth one day as well!
@cardinalkaos when I visit Europe, I say the same thing to myself. This is real. Growing up in FL, I only saw things like this in amusement parks like Disney World.
Disney world is shite why would anyone, want to go there
@@tamar597 Bollocks!!!
One of Europe's most beautiful cities.
We live in Valencia Spain and out of all the places we visited for For91days .. it's our favorite, so we made it our permanentvalencia.for91days.com/ home when we're not on the road. Take a look:
Now folks if you look to the left you'll see downtown Europe, and if you look to the right you'll see Le bread cafe, and if you look ahead you'll see the car I'm about to hit at 30 MPH
Sure kid.. lol
Agree 100%
@@brucezar9517 Miaow!!!
I went on a Lisbon tram last year during the day in June, and it was nearly as mad as this. The suddenly lurches as they go into corners are amazing, and the gradients they can climb are beyond what I've seen anywhere else.
You should come back for a ride through Lisbon FOG like what you can see in this video: czcams.com/video/xG3Dosj-4T4/video.html
I was in Lisbon one year ago, a few weeks before everything shut down. It is the most magical city I've ever been to. Took this tram ride from start to finish. It is as wonderful as it appears.
Couldn't agree more! And I'm happy that you underline our video! Thank you so much for stoppig by!
This was so enjoyable I watched it twice. I never knew Lisbon was this charming & the golden light is beautiful!
Lisbon is AMAZING and so pretty! I took probably 5000 photos in 91 Days - you can see most of them on our Lisbon Travel Blog: lisbon.for91days.com/
Doesn't take much huh? LOL
Selena i always enjoy your beauty
Went to Lisbon about 35 years ago when I was about 12. Watching this made me remember how beautiful the city is & how great the Portuguese people are.
I think you're overdue for an other visit - a lot of things didn't change but then again you would notice many changes.
Yeah I've been to Lisbon 10 years ago with my wife. I remembered that old trams called eléctricos in portuguese. Me and my wife did a nightride on exactly the same line with an awesome and friendly driver who treated us very particular. He let my wife sitting on the drivers seat to take a picture. I was amazed how nice the lisboetas were.
I went to Lisbon in January 1999
That street looks so steep for the tram!
Hard to imagine that these trams can handle these steep inclines - but they manage :)
I'm sure those tranvías have plenty of horse power to climb the gradients
Holy crap, that thing rocks. You don't want to be getting in the way of it. He is not stopping.
He did stop for the BMW .. not so much for the car at the end of the video, heehhe!
In Philly, I've seen the trolley driver knock a mirror off of a cop car lol. The cop deserved it for parking in the way. If you park in trolley tracks, your car might get hit, and if it does, then you will be fined for parking in the way of the trolley and the damage to the trolley. Do not park in the trolley tracks!
I do wish we had trolleys in the tourist district in Philly though. The only run in west Philly and on Girard avenue.
I miss Portugal so much, it is a beautiful country
We only seen things around Lisbon BUT we want to go back to see all the other parts of Portugal. If you miss Lisboa.. check out our Travel Blog with 91 Articles about this amazing city: lisbon.for91days.com/ Thank you so much for stopping by!!!
Next time visit Porto, it is a very beauty port city that goes along with the Douro river, I did erasmus there(academic Exchange) - it is not big as Lisboa but it is a very lovely city with tons of gardens, beautiful bridges and places to see the sunset
I’ve travelled extensively around the world, but have never been to Lisbon.
After seeing this clip, I would definitely want to visit there.
Oh! Another travel blogger? Where have you been? If you decide to go to Lisbon, go during off season, right now it's crazy packed!
Count me in as well ... as soon as this covid cack is out of the way....
It's really a beautyful city. Highly recommend to visit.
And to think, people pay a fortune to go to Disneyland for the same thrill !
and this here is even better and prettier i think :D
For sure and it's real :)
I was thinking exactly the same as you Jenny...and yes this is for real !
The weary holiday traveller looked in disbelief at a bunch of mistletoe hanging above the luggage at the check-in counter.
Turning to the attendant he said, "I like your mistletoe. Is it for customers or only personnel?"
"Neither," she said. "It's so you can kiss your luggage goodbye."
jenny talia That’s what I thought when I stayed in Paris last week! No need to visit Disneyland Paris. City of Paris is like Disneyland for adults! Some metro stations were closed due to the national day and the soccer world cup 2018 so the metro raced through the stations without even slowing down - awsome rollercoaster riding!😜
In my opinion! The most charming and beautiful city in the world.
What a fun quirky POV ride through this beautiful city! And thank you for playing the original sound.
So you happy you liked it ... I have an entire homage for the Tram 28 which can be viewed here: czcams.com/video/xG3Dosj-4T4/video.html Thank you so much for watching.
Lisbon looks beautiful.

The ring of the tram bell - such a Lisbon sound.
this video made me feel like being in a dreamless city from nowhere in specific, with two moons starring at the always empty dark sky and a sadly classical violin music appearing out from anyone knows where
Did you wake up yet?

Totally wicked track layout at 3:24.
Surprised by the grade the tram can climb also.
Yeah, they are powerful little machines!

Well that seems fun. Lisbon seems beautiful. Now my imagination goes strolling down the streets at night.
0:49 imagine you're in driving school, your teacher wants you to park, then comes the tram
Imagine to parallel park on a hile and the tram is coming. HELP!
Twisty and turny, swervy and curvy.
How cool is that!
It's like a rusty living thing :)
I never knew that Lisbon was so beautiful. It was like watching a dream. It feels like everyone who lives there is complicit in maintaining the whole city as one consistent soul eternally through time. I was watching that and wished so much that in my final days I would sit in the back of the rickety tram as it glides over the cobbled streets, occasionally trembling like my ageing bones. And every now and again, I would sneak out a distinguished bottle of vintage port, a long-time friend and companion, hiding in a cellar since the 1920s. And as the lights grow bleary in the warm night, the occasional Atlantic gust rekindling the smoky embers, I will catch another tram to find how much of Lisbon I dreamt and how much of it is real 🇵🇹 ♥️

Me sorprende lo veloz que es. Tremendo trabajo de ingeniería civil para hacer que funcione en esas calles tan empinadas. Hermoso video. Gracias.

Well I mean there's really no need for Tram travel in New Bedford ( *At least not anymore. Last Tram out here was in the late 1800's*. ), as this city isn't big enough for railways. Still would be cool though, but we might be having a small subway that leads to Boston.
Idk if this would work in asia countrt cause people tend to ride motorcycle or car. Lol.
In America they would demolish entire neighborhoods with narrow streets and turn them into parking lots.
In the US Cars come first people second.
the driver did a really good job! I still can remember in the early 90es when I took a ride on this route 28 the electricity-safety colapsed, the driver took some alu-foil and he started again the roller-coaster! Lisbon is just the greates for tram-fans!
I love that 4:06 - 4:18 shot. Very cinematic, especially as the other tram sweeps past up the hill. Super cool!
