It’s a totally separate line running on metre gauge (as opposed to standard gauge used in Berlin) and is operated by a different company. It only briefly runs into Berlin to connect with the S-Bahn (urban rail). The operator of the tram route is SRS, or “Schöneiche-Rüdersdorfer Straßenbahn”.

The Newark Light Rail system (formerly the Newark City Subway), although it recently replaced its classic PCC cars (due to inability to obtain parts) with state of the art ones- still a cool ride from Newark Penn Station to the city line; attractions include Branch Brook Park in which you'll see Cherry Blossoms bloom in springtime, and 2. The newly built Waterfront Light Rail System which runs, I believe, between Bayonne and Hoboken (not sure as I've only rode part of this line so far and it's still

An interesting video about the streetcars :-)
You wonder in your post something about the line 88 (Schöneicher-Rüdersdorfer streetcar). The explanation for the missing connection to the "rest of the network" is quite simple.
In Berlin, the streetcar traffic is carried out by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), which, however, have their rail network exclusively on Berlin territory. Now, there are small towns and communities in the surrounding area of Berlin that also have their own streetcar operations - sometimes with only 1 or 2 vehicles. These then reach the Berlin city area with one station and thus a transfer option, e.g. to the S-Bahn.
You can recognize such lines by their line number: 8x or 9x (for Potsdam).
If you ever come back to the area, take a look at line 87 of the "Woltersdorfer Straßenbahn"; there's a nice old-timer in regular service :-)

@@CloudWarrior904 fair point, but the topic was 'beauty'. Trams have lagged a long way behind trains in Melbourne when it comes to assessibility, but that cames from a long history of conservative governments who don't particularly care about anyone who isn't chauffeur driven. Our current government is doing good things to redress the decades of neglect.

@@araneus1 on the point of beauty i don't think they that W class are beautiful. I think that they are ugly utilitarian holdovers from the past, whereas C, D, and E classes are much better in terms of beauty, safety, and accessibility. That is of course my own opinion and you are entitled to yours and more power to you.

    • @araneus1

@@CloudWarrior904, maybe it has something to do with our respective ages. You sound like a feisty youngish bloke, whereas I'm a crusty old bloke who rode to school on the W class trams. Polished wooden interior, a peephole so you could watch the driver and imagine your older self driving. The sound of the air compressor repressurising the braking system, the clang of the bell and the different rings the conductor would make according to the situation -- my favourite was the three sharp rings to signal to the driver that a crash stop was required. The warmth of the inside cabins at both ends, complete with sliding glass doors and the sense of speed when sitting in the centre section (before they enclosed them, they were often open to the elements, especially in summer.)
I guess beauty is function to some, and others see beauty in experience.

@@araneus1 I appreciate your point of view and respect it.
I am not all that young, as I am on the wrong side of 50, and I also can remember a time when W Class were all over the system along with the Z class. There were no A, B, C, D, or E class in the system.
Also, I worked on Melbourne's trains as a guard in the first half of the 90s as a young man, and a lot of things were similar between trains and trams.
Guards used bells to communicate with the driver, although three bells were to move the train backwards, and an emergency stop was a series of very fast more than four rings.
As for beauty, I just don't see it in older designs. whereas I see much beauty in the newer designs and Melbourne's current fleet of C,D, and E class trams to me are a thing of beauty, but as I stated previously each to his own and more power to us all.
PS. I have always preferred modern contemporary designs over older ones.

Melbourne in Australia yes, but not Sydney as Sydney has beautifully French designed and built trams but are covered in advertising which detracts from their beauty. Also, to build the line to the south east 1,000+ beautiful trees were removed creating an urban desert. Unlike France, the car was not confronted in Sydney and the overall result has been failure.

You probably have never been to Budapest as that city has several routes that potentially belong inany such list0, for several reason:
Line 1 as it runs currently the longest tram in the world, the 9-section, 56 meter long (!) CAF Urbos 3
Line 2 (3-section GANZ KCSV-7), as it runs almost entirely along the Danube, passing Parliament and with a view (on the opposite bank) on the Royal Palace, Fisherman's Bastion, Mt. Gellért with the Citadella, etc.
Line 4/5 (6-section Siemes Combino Supra) as it has the highest daily ridership of any tram line in the world (and more than most Metro lines even) with over 400,000 on an average working day
I generally found your list to have an enormous French bias. Perhaps you're French yourself, which is OK. Nobody is perfect :)
