      I'm pretty sure most mountain bikers show the fails they get on camera, it is very directly part of the sport as far as i've seen. Poor jordan got messed up on whistler the opening weekend and he's gotten really lucky, 5 ribs, a messed up lung and bruised kidney and liver. The MoFo got back home after only two days on the hospital, dude's made out of steel. It was a really similar crash to the one on this video except he hit the tree directly instead of with the bars

All of my weight and momentum went into my ulna, which of course, broke it. Was two weeks before our Madeira trip so had to cancel. It's a part of the sport you have to accept happens sometimes! Another great video, I'm glad you ended up being OK. I learned a lot from hitting a tree in Downieville 10 years ago. New bike, unfamiliar trail, I was going fast and pulled up hard off a small jump. I over-cleared and landed in loose dirt on the side of the trail and was unable to slow down in time. Broke my clavicle and scapula and had a long walk back to town. I relate to how fast that went wrong for you and how scary it was. I have taken away many good lessons from your videos, this one included. Take care!

    That could easily have been a career ender and you were extremely lucky you literally walked away from that one on your won feet. Glad it turned out like this Remy! And watching the footage 99,9% of riders would not have walked away. You still retained a certain level of control during a potentially catastrophic crash and managed to just edge your head right of the tree and using your stem as kind of a ram to get you past the tree.The reaction may have been subconcious but it saved your life! Apart from that an awesome place to ride! And I'm with you on the Norrona stuff, use it for years, especiall in winter and love it!

  • @andrewnorris5415
    @andrewnorris5415 Před 22 dny +2

    What led up to this I have seen many times, others any myself do. You get into such a hyper mood on a trail you are not familiar with. That you forget safety and what can go wrong. It feels amazing until something happens. And it''s always when with others - as they help get that stoke mode going. Of course we should ride with others and get stoked - it's awesome. But we must calm ourselves down and remember the dangers. Sometimes get the odd warning you are overcooking it, but often not! Here when you did it on your own, that was a big step up in risk. Now following experienced riders of that trail. You were having such a great time you forgot that. We need to maybe set an alarm to beep every 20 mins to remind us to take stock of risks! And think before each ride what each risk could be for that.

    Zut alors Rémy! Thank you for sharing this, you are an exceptional rider and hearing your story about risk management really helps us average riders! I took a spill once going slow, on a trail I'd ridden 100 times, went over the bars, I was wearing a full face helmet, just missed my eye and ended up with two deep gashes on my face from a big sharp rock! It's a technical line but I never expected that, and luckily I was with my friend who carried my bike out, I had to hold pressure to keep from bleeding all over, that was the longest mile walk in my life. That was by far the worst spill I've taken, it wasn't on the fastest or most difficult lines, it wasn't a jump or a drop, I'm a careful rider - it was the second bike spill in my life, I took my own training wheels off when I was 4 haha There is risk in our sport, and it's great to get advice from the best Rémy : ) This is my favorite MTB channel, Merci Beaucoup Rémy

    Good point about the camel back. Lot's of people changing to fanny packs these days, but I like the protection of something on my back. If you end up on your back from a fall, the last thing you want is sharp rock or stick poking you on your spine. Good backpacks (I have a Dakine) keep the pack separated from your back with a ventilation space. If I'm low on water and there isn't much else in your bag I blow some air into the bladder, to give me protection in case of a fall.

    I say this with love: complacency has killed more pilots than any enemy.
    I’ve been mountain biking for 35 years, and in all that time my worst accidents were ones just like this. A moment of overconfidence, a dash of hubris, and a pinch of ‘GoPro Gusto’ and VOILA’! Bad crash. I’m VERY happy you are ok and that you’ll walk away from this one. Please be sure to write down what you learned, as it’s easy to forget (ask me how I know! 😂)

      My worst crash (so far) was someone filming me on a jump I'd hit a 100 times. Completely not focused, overshot it to flat nose down, OTB. Incredibly only scrapes. That made me decide showing off on footage is something I dont need in my riding.

    Good thing you got away with minor injuries and some destroyed equipment only - when trees grab you, it can end badly.
    Makes for a great PSA though. I really suck at riding new tracks blind and it takes me many laps to get up to speed. Some are just better at that, but others try to force it. To see that this can happen to an exceptional rider can serve as a reminder and warning for all of us less gifted riders to sight before ride and when we arent on our A-game, tone it down.

    At 21:00 - I would normally not associate myself with what or how Remy is doing something (far beyond my level, no questions asked), but this particular moment reminds me of myself indeed when ..30 or so years ago, I also stopped in almost slow-motion on the front wheel and fell over. So slow in fact, that my sunglasses slipped of my nose first, right below me and when I had to capture my fall while going head over and stop myself in an almost hand-stand position - I literally crushed my sunglasses with my own right hand (and ended up with its glass in my palm). I could watch it while it happened. Weird.
    Great ride though - Norway is indeed awesome. Visited it 3 weeks last year and was amazed by the different types of vegetation in relatively short distances. So beautiful!

    Crashing happens, even to the best of us. We all have off days. Props for recognizing where the fault lays. Most wouldn’t do that and would find fault elsewhere. Heal up.
