    Im now 72, five years ago I had cataracts removed and had the inter-occular multi focal Tecnis Symfony lens procedure on both eyes. My close and distance vision is now fantastic! I do not need any other vision correction (contacts or eye glasses) and have been so impressed with the results. If your eyes are otherwise healthy aside from the cataracts, I heartily recommend inter-ocular implants!

    I had this surgery along with 2 others. I'm 13 nearly 14 and i was born with an extremely severe cataract in my right eye. I had surgery to have the cataract removed and when I was about 7 or 8 months old, i then developed a very obvious squint and lazy eye. I'm also having squint surgery in 10 days to attempt to straighten my eyes a bit more, which I'm actually really excited for after all the bullying. For anyone considering this surgery, I'd say definitely go for it, for most people, the effect is amazing. Thank you for reading this :)

      Faye Tarbitten so did you have to wear contacts after surgery so that you could see far and near? Or do you have to wear reading glasses ?

    Good informative and honest video explaining the good and bad of each choice. I chose the monofocal lens because I wanted the sharpest and best contrast for distance vision. I didn't care about using glasses for reading. I didn't want night driving halos, reduced dim light vision, reduced contrast and reduced distance vision sharpness. (Only the monofocal lens transmits 100% light to the retina ) My intermediate vision is great also, only need glasses for less than about 1 foot distance. Cell phone no problem. I don't know why anyone would opt for a multifocal. The benefits don't outweigh the negatives.

    • @paulbielen9233
      @paulbielen9233 Před 3 lety +1

      You are absolutely right. I have those special lens at an out of pocket cost of almost 10 grand. Not covered by insurance. Night driving is almost impossible because of halos and dramatic sparking of the newer led headlights from on coming cars. Right choice

    • @desihacker6562
      @desihacker6562 Před 2 lety

      Even using smartphone with monofocal ? Just wow !
      Can you briefly describe about your lens model because I think it's an Extended depth of focus Monofocal which increases intermediate vision as the video describes & if it's standard then you're having good days !
      My mother got operated today with Johnson Technis monofocal & I'm really worried about her near vision, reading your comment just sparkled my eyes 💜

    I had decent vison before cataract surgery. ( Obviously I was told I had cataracts) Night vision and glare could be improved. I wore glasses all my life basically for reading. I am 85 and very active.
    I did have cataract surgery on the right eye opting for the reading implant and was scheduled for the same on the left eye a week later. Yes I would need glasses for distance and maybe even for reading.
    I asked myself if why should I continue when my left I was naturally multifocal. Yes the implant would have improved near vision but why remove a natural multifocal and replace with a synthetic multifocal implant? I wear sunglasses for driving now. I am still healing for the first surgery.

    Doctor, question please: I have had cataract surgery in my R eye for distance and it has worked giving me better distance vision. Next, I am doing a contact lens trail for short distance in my L eye. If I then go ahead with cataract surgery for near distance in the L eye (which has a more minor cataract compared to the right eye but I prefer to get this done now rather than later in life) and if after surgery I find I can't focus and see the detail on my computer screen for my work, will glasses help in this situation? Also, can I get glasses that will enhance distance vision for when I am driving?

      I had a detached retina in my left eye. I was told that I wouldn't have to worry about it detaching again under normal circumstances. That was in 2012. Last month I had cataract surgery on that same eye. Every thing went good. Think you should talk with his doctor to put your mind at ease. Cataract surgery shouldn't effect his retina. The cataract surgery is a relatively minor surgery.
