      *The Parental Advisory "Sticker"*
Hank was trying to protect Bobby from content he believed to be inappropriate. Hank, not knowing the artist was or their work, saw the "sticker" and assumed it was an actual warning. Bobby clarified that the "sticker" was part of the artwork and was only designed to appeal to kids like him. This fact, is lost on Hank who continued to take it for face value. In this instance, Bobby knows more about the content he likes and is seeking than Hank does. Which is many times the case with parents who are out of the loop.
This is a trap that many parents have been known to fall into. They are trying to do the right thing, but instead of taking an active and informed role in their child's development, they allow others to make decisions on their behalf. This can result in children being exposed to content which may actually go against their parent's wishes unbeknownst to them. This is one of the lessons in this episode; Don't judge any book by its cover. Good or Bad.
No parental advisory would actually require a parent to listen to said music (as instructed) prior to purchase for a minor. Even if the sticker was real, the parental advisory does not bar a child from buying it. Some stores may have had a policy not to sell to minors, but its not actually a legally binding legislation. The sticker was developed by the music industry to prevent an actual legislative ban of their content, but it quickly became a badge of honor and marketing tool. This is all played up in the scene.
This fake parental sticker is essentially daring parents to listen to the CD and be offended by its content. It's in jest. A fact that children like Bobby would be privy of. Again, as a way to appeal to kids. "Dad hates this music and doesn't want you to have it" so they would want it even more and will do anything to get it. Hank was probably the only parent to be goaded into listening to it. Hence his legitimate reaction. He fell for it, hook, line, and sinker. Hank thus looks even more to the parental advisory sticker to keep him "informed," a fact that will come back to bite him.
As the story goes, Hank didn't follow through with 4 Skore because of their appearance, sound, and lack of an advisory sticker on their CD. He assumed they were acceptable, because he only looked into them superficially. The lack of a label, which he came to trust, failed him. More importantly Hank failed Bobby. Adult content being made to appeal specifically to kids is one part of this episode's lesson. Sometimes it isn't always apparent at first glance. Showing another trap many parents fall into when they assume content is "kid friendly" by their own reasoning.
      *The Parental Listening Booth*
Now onto the "Parental Listening Booth". Since Hank believes the "sticker" is legitimate, he assumes the listening booth is provided to comply with said sticker's demands. To allow parents the ability to screen content in the store before purchase for a minor. Hank is seemingly completely unaware of the listening booth's true purpose. Again, this goes back to Hank's ignorance and taking things at both face value and at first glance. The young man rocking out and unaware of his surroundings plays into the perception that the youth is going down the wrong path.
Hank asks the young man if he may use the "Parental Listening Booth" to screen Bobby's potential purchases. The young man is rough around the edges and appears to be a delinquent. However, he surprises us by allowing Hank to do as he asks. This plays back to the idea of not judging a book by it's cover. The young man may be confused by Hank's request, but he honors it without incident none the less. The young man shows enthusiasm for one of Bobby's choices, but he doesn't get in Hanks way or offers a counter to Hanks decision.
This shows that perhaps this young man would have served as a better source as to the true nature of the content within those CDs. However, Hank took it upon himself to decide with his ignorance on behalf of Bobby, instead of asking the much more informed and polite young man. Again, all playing into the moral of this episode's story.

See, I actually remember this quite clearly. It wasn't that easy. Major record stores knuckled under to Tipper Gore and voluntarily agreed to not sell albums with parental advisory stickers to kids without their parents there. There wasn't an ID requirement, they just decided not to do it. Same way the movie theater chains agreed not to let you into an R rated movie without your parents - it wasn't a law, it was just them being f***king extra because it was the 90s.
If your parents bought into the hype (and a lot of them did), you couldn't buy parental advisory albums alone from most places, you had to either know somebody who worked there or have a slightly older friend to buy them. They didn't hassle older teenagers, but I would regularly get denied by middle aged mom&dad types at Sam Goody and Walmart when I was 10-14. Once again, just a symptom of the 90s - vapid white housewife moral panic that went nowhere. Imagine how quickly they'd get sued today if a clerk said "No, you can't buy that rap album until your mom comes in."

    • @ShevaiAsan

@@Rutherford_Inchworm_III But they still sold more of them; because those who COULD by them ended up buying them just because it seemed more bad-ass to do so. Most people buying albums were teenagers, not 10-14 year olds who would rather have a new toy than a new music album. =]

I don’t like metal, so scrap your assumptions about me liking AC/DC and Metallica. I like some Beatles songs; it depends on the lyrics. There’s a big difference between an innocuous love song like ‘Michelle’ and a Communist manifesto like ‘Imagine’ (yeah I know that’s a Lennon solo) or ‘Why Don’t We Do It In The Road.’ Besides, every American child has been through the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program (or a faith-based equivalent for those not in public schools), but these same American children are encouraged to ‘be sexy’ at earlier and earlier ages. Everyone’s so afraid of ‘offending’ now, so the average teen learns how to put a condom on a banana and get in touch with Planned Parenthood and that’s it. They get thrown in the sex pool, with all its possibilities (and its sexually transmitted diseases and the inevitable emptiness that most females feel after they ‘hook up’ without love), and it’s sink-or-swim time. Bobby Hill’s character wasn’t emotionally ready to discover ‘baby places’ anyway, as was proven at the co-ed slumber party in that same episode. And good dad Hank stepped in and spared the party guests a lot of awkwardness and possible bad memories of too much/too young.

Everyone seems to ignore the first part of this scene. Hank sees Bobby doing something he's not supposed to be doing, dancing in the middle of the road. Then, as a parent, he tries to find what influenced him to do something like that which happens to be music telling his son to not respect authority. He then takes his son's music choices and explains to him which are good and which are bad. His opinions aren't necessarily right, and he does absolutely have his biases, but his actions are that of a caring parent, not an overprotective one. If Bobby hadn't been dancing in the street, Hank wouldn't have had to do any of this.

Shady Doorags true that. Sometimes when I get older, I don't want my child to listen to crappy rap/hip-hop music to turn into mindless, dumb zombies. I even don't want my future child to listen to Nicki Minaj, Lil wayne, justin bieber, Chris Brown, and any other crappy artists I despise. I would recommend my future child to listen to Michael Jackson, My Chemical Romance, Hawthorne Heights and some other great artists that my child likes and be influenced from. Hehe I just can't get enough of Michael Jackson when I mentioned him. His songs are Like Holy Water. They keep the bad spirits away which is bad music and to me, he's better than any pop artist. I mean, look at him, he's sweet, very generous, caring, loving, really smart, sensitive, very pure, spiritual, and humble and indescribably talented. Plus, he's a great humanitarian too.

Ice Queen lol your being really close minded about music. Yeah nikki minaj not the best music to start with but neither is my chemical romance. And befor anything you bashed rap and hip hop in general which comes out bad. I grew up listening to 70's rock and 80's thrash/heavy metal. Then at some point in my life i started to listen to rap and it changed my life to be completely honest ive learned wayyy more from rap then any other music genre. Yes michael jackson is fine to groove with but when you listen to rap you understand things differently. When i listened to rap i connect with the person and they go through stuff that im going through and its straight forward they dont dance around the topic. Please dont bash a genee and call them zombies when ive met people who listen to my chemical romance and act like.thats "real music"

Tbh I knew Pimp Franklin since 3rd grade, tho he wasn't called that back then for obvious reasons. His real name wasnt even Franklin, it was Bosley, but he felt like the name wasn't cool, and I agree.
Anyways, when I would be at his house sometimes, besides smoking, I would listen to him come up with raps, and I will say his super early stuff wasn't that bad. I felt he had potential though I still didn't expect him to make it big.
By the end of high school, we basically went our separate ways, but from what I heard, he gotten his freshman album made by a year after we graduated, which is the one mentioned in this video.
Personally, this stuff doesn't entice me like his early stuff did, tho I suppose 'Pimp Franklin' doesn't need me to pay no mind to him.
The last time I saw him was back in '02 when we accidentally bumped into each other at a Taco Bell near our hometown. We caught up a bit in the time we were waiting for our food, but he definitely fell out since I last saw him. I didn't bother asking for his Facebook or anything and neither did he, maybe out of shame.
