When he counted how many times he died to the doctor he stupidly said 4, which shows how he doesn't care that much about himself because he was technically immortal. What makes it worse was how he died which was through his own reckless behavior which Death later calls them frivolous.
Simple answer: you don't. Puss didn't defeat Death, not really. Death left on his own volition after Puss showed he wasn't the same person he was when Death first started to chase him.

In fact, she most likely HAD done it a lot, as it takes practice to throw a spear that accurately, let alone an oddly-shaped stick (not to mention having her stick, which had NO sharpened ends to it, impale into the log or rolled up carpet, or whatever it was... meaning she had to have put a LOT of strength behind the throw too... something you only learn with practice)

Like maybe whatever made Puss more human like caused him to lose his catlike equilibrium and instinct that lets them land on their feet, but whatever made Kitty more human like didn’t. I don’t think it’s a skill issue with Puss I feel like after he gave into the fear of Death he lost his skills thinking that him being the way he was would only get him killed. Cause look at his fight in the beginning with the Lords men he effortlessly dodges but when he fought Jacks men he’s scurrying around yelling and scared. And then when he decides to face death his skills are back
