    Hi Cindy, You are such a wonderful seamstress. How did you learn to sew? Did you learn from a family member or did you learn in school or are you self taught? I lov to watch you sew the beautiful vintage dresses with such precision and grace. Thank you for making these lovely sewing videos. I love your little pup with the pink bow. I've always wanted a Yorkie, my husband bought me a Frenchie, and I love him dearly, so I can not complain. I think the rickrack and those sweet pearly pink flower buttons are wonderful touches. Such a feminine beautiful pink dress. Looks like the kind of dress that should be worn to a tea party. Love it!!

      Thank you so much! My Yorkie is sending your Frenchie so much love! My great-grandmother actually sewed. She used to let my mom pick out patterns and she’d make her clothes and my mom’s Barbie’s clothes too. I would’ve loved to have learned from her but she passed when I was really little. My mom talks about her all the time now since I started teaching myself. Now that I think about it, maybe she’s guiding me as I learn? Idk but it’s a lovely thought ❤️

    I have another tip. Find poster tubes and take your patterns and lay them flat on a light weight poster board and roll them like a map. No creases! Prolong the life of your patterns. You do great work. And the more I watch, the better you get. Thank you. Have fun!!

    Not enough words to thank you, Cindy Leaux!
    I'm a few months into my sewing journey and picked up this pattern in a flash of ambition - needless to say, I was lost by the time I got to the midriff. I'd shortened my bodice by two inches (v. short torso club) and was panicked about everything fitting together and new techniques yet to come (ric rac? piping??) and put this on hold for a week before having the presence of mind to CZcams search.
    Liked and subscribed and can't wait to join you again.

    Congrats on the viral. That is fantastic. Well done.
    Yay for the doodle winning. Sometimes you just have to. And agreed that Robin Williams is a huge loss.
    The dress is lovely. The alterations came out great - well done, you.
    As far as I can see from the vintage patterns I've worked with so far - you do all the seams and then you do the bias tape to enclose the edges. But it may be one of those things where it's up to you for the 'order of operations'.
    Clips or hand-basting are my only guesses for holding the rick-rack into place.
    Presently I'm working on hand sewing a cobalt blue wool crepe into a 1950's kimono sleeve blouse for the summer. I'm experimenting with using the fashion fabric as an interlining on the cuffs & collar; then pad-stitched into place. So far, the results are making me happy. I'm attempting to use every couture/Victorian and tailoring technique I can find...

      @CindyLeaux  Před 3 měsíci

      Oh I bet your kimono is absolutely beautiful! I love seeing the insides of couture. They’re like masterpieces and the pad stitching is so pretty to me. The next video I make, I will be cutting into “the good fabric” so your thoughts & advice are a treasure! Thank you for sharing ❤️

    • @stevezytveld6585
      @stevezytveld6585 Před 3 měsíci

      @@CindyLeaux Oooh, cutting into the good fabric. Do it! Absolutely. It's always so worth it. Yes there are nerves at the start, but by the time one is done with the scissors I'm smiling (and usually need a post-stress nap, lol). The good fabric is where you learn things. And the results are always worth the case of the nerves...
      Pad stitching feels like my new superpower. I love Victorian/couture techniques.

    I don't have this pattern. But this week, having time on my hands and being in the mood for reorganising, I sat down and ironed my vintage tissue paper patterns. 😊 I only have a few - being Central European, most of my vintage patterns come in the form of sewing magazine pattern sheets.
    I love your buttons! I have mild koumpounophobia so regular buttons with holes range from "meh" to "nope" for me; but shank buttons are fine, and I have for a while now occasionally pondered that these pearl ones would be the perfect button solution for me in certain circumstances. 💛

      @@CindyLeaux German ones - Burda, of course, but most of the ones I have are the Eastern German Pra(ktische)mo(de). 🙂 Those are 50s-80s (the newer they are the more boring the patterns are - and I don't mean just in terms of my own interest in the fashions, the later it gets the more you can see the limitations of the Eastern block economy).Then several different ones from the 30s and 40s. I'm Czech but I think I have fewer Czech magazines than German ones; but one 50s dress high on my list of things to make is in a Czech magazine... I think it was Práce ženy (Woman's Work), but I'm not 100% sure. But I definitely have two late 1940s issues of that one with some pretty interesting patterns. 🙂
      The downside is that they don't come with detailed instructions (or, quite often, any) so studying vintage sewing guides is a must. 😅

    This was far too cute, and I wish I had your bravery! I'm too scared to sew older pieces because I'm definitely not a seamstress...
    Anyway! I use Elmer's glue to tack down rickrack (among other things). You only need a small dot of glue in precise places, and I set it with my iron. Some people use glue sticks!
    I don't know if you have one yet, but using a rotary cutter and large quilting ruler makes any strip cutting as swift as a sad kiss! I wish I'd used a cuter aphorism.
    Finally, bias tape is used to make the finished piece nicer-looking while protecting the seams and keeping the fabric from fraying.

    You're dresses always come out so well in the end💖💖!! But i have a question, do you wear a petticoat with them? I have some 50s patterns but I'm not sure if they'll poof on their own or if I need a petticoat??? Thanks!

      Google is translating your word to “molds” which I’m guessing means the tissue paper pattern? I use a low heat. And the weights are brass weights from Amazon. Does this help? 🥰

    When you pull threads out of your sewing projects, pull the bobbin threads. It's easier 😊.

      @@CindyLeaux You're welcome. When I mentioned bobbin threads I meant the gathering threads. Another tip if you have gather a small section use your machine's feed dogs instead. It takes some getting used to, yet it's worth it. If you need more sewing tips I can recommend Sewing with Nancy videos. She has a CZcams channel. Unfortunately no one could talk to her anymore. For she had passed away from cancer 🔙 in 2017. I used to watch her TV 📺 show when I was your age. If someone were to talk to you, then chances are this person is also a next gen like yourself. I am glad you are putting out videos. Again thank you. To the next generation 😊. See you in your next video 📹 😊.

    とても面白いです!貴方はどこの国の方ですか?
    日本では、ソーイングブックやキットには、もっと分厚い紙の型紙が付いていて、それを薄い紙に写し取ってから使うことが多いです。貴方のところでは、商品の紙をそのまま切るのですか?

    • @CindyLeaux
      @CindyLeaux  Před 3 měsíci +1

      1950年代のオリジナルヴィンテージパターンを使用しています。薄いティッシュペーパーが付属しているので、布地の上に置いて直接切り込むことができます(布地ハサミを傷つけることなく)。ご覧いただきまして誠にありがとうございます!北米から「こんにちは」と手を振ります。(Google がこれを正しく翻訳してくれることを願っています。😅)

      @@CindyLeaux Thank you for your reply! I was surprised that you replied so late, but it's not midnight in North America! Lol (It's midnight in Japan now) Modern Japanese patterns have lines of multiple sizes and designs drawn on large pieces of paper, so it's hard to find the design you want and copy it onto thin paper! The product in this video only comes with one size, so can you reuse it even if you cut it out? I'm also curious about modern patterns! I hope I was able to translate this sentence well too🥰

    • @CindyLeaux
      @CindyLeaux  Před 3 měsíci +1

      ああ、今あなたが言っていることは分かりました。はい、本当のヴィンテージパターンは個別のサイズで作られています。そのため、切り取って何度でも再利用することができます。モダンなパターンはまだ試したことはありませんが、ヴィンテージのパターンはとても好きです。お役に立てば幸いです?そして、素晴らしい一日をお過ごしください。🥰💕
