  • The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is an old-time radio show which aired in the USA from 1939 to 1950. The series was based on the Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle.
For most of the show's run, the program starred Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson. Other actors played Holmes and Watson in later seasons.

I love the old Rathbone/Bruce Sherlock Holmes radio shows! Rathbone and Bruce were and remain to this day the best pairing ever as Holmes and Watson! It sounds like the voice actor who plays the role of the professor and talks to Holmes and Watson at the beginning of this Sherlock Holmes radio show is the same actor who played Col. Cavanaugh in the 12th and final Universal Studios' Holmes film, "Dressed To Kill"(1946).

I didn't even notice that bit though I've seen the film a few times. Great to hear you're another Rathbone/Bruce fan! I do so admire Rathbone and want to upload more of his work but sadly there aren't too many available aside from some old films the ones I already have on my channel. Thanks for stopping by! 😄

From what I have read, Rathbone and Bruce recorded approximately 200+ Sherlock Holmes radio shows, but sadly some of them are lost. Did you know that 2-3 of the Rathbone/Bruce Holmes films for Universal Studios were released on LP record and/or audio compact disc? Many years ago I purchased the LP record of ''The Scarlet Claw" in a record store. It was released on LP record by a Canadian record company. That LP has about 97 or 98 percent of the movie on it. I remember seeing on a website that at least 2 other Rathbone/Bruce Holmes films were released on audio compact disc but I forget which ones.

@@classictreasures I believe they made 12 or 14 Sherlock Home Movies through Universal and they're all great.

TY for the upload, another excellent episode. I think the actor playing the role of the professor is Frederick Worlock, a busy character actor, who also appeared in some of the Rathbone & Bruce movie adaptations.

The very best Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. NO Other duo comes close!

The above statement is certainly true, nothing better. Although...I find that if I don't compare, I thoroughly enjoy the Howard-Crawford (tv show) version as well. I'm just crazy about the Sherlock Holmes/Dr Watson characters.

For radio is one thing, however for t.v. the best ever was Ronald Howard, as Holmes. Epitome. M

Oh I have seen and also uploaded those episodes! Ronald Howard was very charming as Holmes. I believe he wanted to portray the "younger Holmes", before the fame and recognition, and I think he did it quite well. Cheers!

    Qu. Trivia
What cast of the movie The Sound Of Music, was on the Sherlock Holmes presentation?
    Quite remarkable given.

Is it Plummer? I remembered him mainly because his Watson (played by James Mason) was very remarkable. To me at least. haha
