Fun fact, in the diamond and pearl manga, the main character had a piplup that he didn’t know had an everstone. So he crushed all the gyms and the piplup gained so many levels it became sick and almost died because it couldn’t evolve.

I did a solo piplup run as well. My move set was grass knot, surf, ice beam, and pluck. The move set had tons of coverage! Made the elite 4 easier as well lol. Grass knot comes in clutch so much for the run! Especially Cynthia’s Milotic and the water gym lol

I remember when my sister basically did this on Platinum years ago. Her Piplup was over Lv. 50 and she never beat the game, as she was stuck on the second gym.
Note that this was her first actual Pokemon game, and the reason she didn't catch any other Pokemon was because, in roughly her own words, "They weren't cute enough for her to catch." Also sever case of Starter Carry Syndrome.

What sucks is that if they ONLY used the Piplup back in the old Gen 4 games, they wouldn't manage to beat the E4, because it requires 5 HMs, and a single pokemon can only learn 4 moves

You can avoid the double abra fight in Eterna Forest by just going up to one of the trainers and talking to them from above. This does make it a single battle so you dont get Cheryl's help, but you could just inject lethal amounts of potions into your poor pikachu until the Abra ran out of Energy Balls.

No matter how many times ive seen people do it, throwing a Master Ball at a Magikarp will always make me laugh.
After rewatching this I realized that, despite it not mattering in the slightest, Piplup landing those 3 friendship crits in a row is INSANE rng. To sum it up quickly, that has a less than 1% chance of occurring. Props to Alpharad, I suppose. Never punish.

Piplup has been my favourite pokemon since the original gen 4 games had come out and I'm so happy to see this video being done. Thanks Alpharad!
Knew this was gonna be a tough one in the Elite Four, especially Cynthia if luck was against him, since most of the game is a cake walk until the battle-trained well oiled machine that is the Elite Four and Cynthia.
Easily the biggest difficulty spike of the series since Ultra Necrozma, and that was just one battle against a wild Pokémon instead of a whole gauntlet of trainer battles with no automatic healing inbetween. And this difficulty spike didn't come from an immediate +2 omniboost either.
It’s kind of crazy that Pikachu was one-shotting way stronger Pokémon than itself, even at about the same level.

This actually isn’t true I think, if you go and talk to one while hugging a wall while moving at an angle I think you can force it into a a single battle
The first one can be forced into a silver battle because of diagonal movement
I accidentally did the first one as a single battle by talking to them diagonally.
I think what save him was the double battle in that situation, because they kept targettong Chansey in the end. If he battled them one by one, Piplup would lost in the second turn anyway because each Abra is faster and Piplup can't one-shot them either.

I used to do that a lot when I got Platinum. Every play through after the first, I would always choose Piplup and name my character Dawn. I wouldn’t let him evolve and got him to level 100. It kinda felt like I was playing the anime. It’s why I have such a strong connection to the character Dawn in the anime.

Piplup is such a precious little boy. My empoleon was the first pokemon i fully raised to level 100 on my own, and is one of my all time favorites. Such a precious boy
The “affection” mechanic and its side effects have been around since XY, but since nobody cared about PokeMonAmie and it’s equivalents, it seems new since BDSP tied it in with the normal friendship mechanics, which is has been around since very early in the series. Friendship usually only affects Return’s damage and the evolution of certain Pokemon, and is raised by just having the pokemon in your party or, when the option is available, walking with them. Affection was usually only raised by PokeMonAmie.

It was also tied in together in SwSh, but you won't get affection benefits in battle since it's capped unless you do camps or whatever it's called in that game. No such cap exists in BDSP.

Fun fact: with the math gym, if you fail one of the questions one of the trainers will tell you off, asking if you forgot the fact that you own a calculator or if you just did it on purpose

If I remember correctly, the move prevents your opponent from using items on that pokemon, meaning no healing items or X items

I was curious, so I looked it up. Embargo is apparently one of the moves unlucky enough to get purged in gen 8... So, despite them making some pretty poor decisions in the name of "faithful remakes..." (these decisions are more pet peeves of mine, so I won't go into it) They outright _couldn't_ use Cynthia's original set for Spiritomb because both Embargo _and_ Silver Wind got cut from the games entirely in Sword/Shield.
Oh well. At least Embargo's removal made this run possible, yeah?

I have been playing through Pokemon Ultra Sun recently, and I have created the ultimate critical hit Drapion. Similar to Aaron's own, he has Cross Poison and Night Slash, which, when sided alongside the items Scope Lens (which Aaron has) or Razor Claw, has a 50% critical chance (Also they both have STAB). My Drapion also has maxed attack and speed EV's, and also Swords Dance to increase physical attack even more (last move is Ice Fang for annoying type matchups). Working on levelling him up to 100 in order to hyper-train the beast. Also he is shiny.
P.S. Also, apparently with a max affection, it doubles crit chance. I will test that out once my own Drapion is level 100. If it is true, then he will have a 100% crit ratio. Will keep this comment updated.

Fun fact, you can turn double trainer battles like that double abra fight into 1v1 matches by talking to the individual trainers instead of walking into their line of sight.
It wouldn't have made a difference though, the Abra outspeeds and it's a guaranteed 2HKO with Bubble Beam unless he gets a crit.
