Grindavík Volcanic eruption January 2024

The volcanic activity is still going on the Reykjanes peninsula, and a new eruption has just started north of Grindavík. After an intense series of earthquakes last night that began at the Sundhnúksgígar crater row, the area had already been evacuated when the eruption began and is closed. Despite damage to properties and infrastructure, the eruption does not present a threat to life. Flights to and from Iceland remain unaffected.
