    With my hobbiest knowledge of game dev and professional experience in software development, my intuition tells me that the reason for the NPC/Location conflict is that the entire open world is in one specific state at a time, with various locations populated based on your progress through various quests at any given time. Trying to release an NPC or a location that is staged for one quest so that you may complete another potentially has a cascading effect on other quests in your inventory. Sometimes it might be straightforward to cascade the updates, but sometimes it could create new conflicts, and even if it were simple, you could find a bunch of quests updating to now be playable all at once which would be a bit confusing and jarring.
    One alternative would be to allow the player to pause and release as many quests as they'd like, but then you've essentially just turned any activity you do in the world into something analogous to an MMO instance: only changing the location and NPCs at precisely the moment they're needed. That sort of defeats the purpose of the open world and I think HoYo deliberately wanted to try to make the world feel more alive by NOT doing that whenever possible.
    Star Rail circumvents this problem by having the game split into relatively small (compared to Genshin) instances (it actually literally refers to each map as a Domain). This means that only one map's state is loaded at a given time, simplifying the number of potential conflicts dramatically, and giving any given quest the ability to completely control that location as needed for its own purposes. Via this, the game also has very few NPC conflict problems. For example, Natasha can always be found in her clinic. Even if you have a quest in your inventory that has her located elsewhere on another map, you'll find her in both locations (because only one is loaded at any given time). That said, it does sort of lose a sense of immersion when a character can be found in more than one location at a time, which is something I think Genshin wanted to avoid.
    Also, the quest conflict issue likely arose late in Genshin's development with no time to overhaul the systems, whereas Star Rail knew about the problem and could take it into consideration when designing their map system.
    tl;dr it's a complicated problem of interconnected dependencies with cascading repercussions and finding a user-friendly solution that also fulfills their design goals is not trivial.

      @@Melotaku well that's her gimmick, and they very well may have made multiple distinct NPCs named Dandy who all look the same in order to achieve it. That'd be fine for one NPC for the sake of an exception to the norm, but it'd create a bunch of asset bloat for them to manage even if they wanted to do it for everyone.

    None of those changes effect me in the slightest but this is the first time i was not disappointed after a developer discussion.. Those changes are very good for a lot of players.. I hope they keep making progress in a good way rather than casual story and exploring game

      i think the released of hsr has made people more vocal about the lack of qol update and people have been expressing their dissatisfaction towards hoyo's treatment of their players for different games, which is good! i hope they'll be addressing more much wanted qol of in genshin that are now in hsr 😤

    Doing a weekly boss in advance without any context sounds a bit like spoiling the impact of it and being a pretty poor first impression imo, but I can understand at least having the option for new players

    While we have not heard of anything about loadouts since it was kinda hinted at a dev talk. I think they are still working on it and everyone should send feedback/fill out surveys regarding how it should be implemented. I don't know about others but in the last 3 dev discussion I've had around 1-2 features announced which I've been asking for years in the surveys. So maybe they are finally trying to add those suggestions in a dedicated manner.

    I'm very happy that we're starting to see some QOL changes, even if it's small and gradual. I'm really hoping we get artifact loadouts, better artifact farming system, and heck just more resin lol

    The quest conflict fix thing was partially added in 4.1 but only applies to 4.1 quests

    It's good that new players don't have to rush, but I'm also kind worried that it'll remove the punch from story bosses for new players. Imagine how much less cool the Scara boss would be if you went in without context

      I’m not a new player but I like this change so much cause I couldn’t play to 3.5 till 4.0 cause of storage issues and I really wanted to unlock Apep’s guardian boss, but I have to do Nahida’s quest (which I don’t wanna do right away cause I have so much to catch on). This QoL pretty much saves me

    I agree. Everyone enjoys Genshin in there own way, forcing the story on players will not make them appreciate it more. I've found myself hating the story sometimes when I feel forced to sit through it. I want to play through the game at my own pace

    The only time I use pins is when I find some obscure sea shell that looks like it could be a hidden chest in some random world quest chain that I will totally forget about and it is too obscure to find on the internet.
    Oh, and also that one pin on top of Azhdaha domain which is just a bunch of curses

    the TCG improvement is HUGE. My and a lot of other people's major complaint about genshin's TCG was the amount of time wasted just going through different animations. This change is going to fix that, and i personally might come back to playing TCG on a regular

    Thank god more pins. I've been working on 100%ing, but i have a treasure hoarder route mapped out and a bunch of mining spots, so it's annoying that i have to reference the interactive map like every five minutes rather than looking at it once every half hour to replot my pins.
    Now, we wait for Artifact loadouts. So i can use lesser used characters without screwing up my main teams' builds.

      Doesn't matter to us late game players. But for newcomers it actively prevents them from smoking all the hangouts and character stories in few days. I would be tempted to do that too... Then you reach ar60 and the most exciting thing that can happen in your daily play time is if a mob drops a 3/4 stars artifact as loot for fodder

      @@xanderx3788 Players should be able to do that if they want to. Hell, maybe they can do that and move on to a different game. The reason its there is because Mihoyo doesn't want to let players move on. To them, keeping players in their own game is more important than the level of enjoyment that players are able to get out of the game. They only need to meet a certain threshold of enjoyment and then they go all out for money.

      @@Elrog3 I agree with you. But that's exactly why I would suggest new players to take their time with the game. Otherwise they get burnt out. Hence, the key mechanic makes sense. For the wrong reasons, but it makes sense nonetheless.

    Some very good qol. Doesn't do much for me though. Although I do play the TCG from time to time. I'm still very glad it exists and is supported. Would rather have max risen increase to 200. But these changes are all welcome in my books.

    me who stopped playing genshin for a year, then played again a few months ago, then had to rushed the sumeru achon quest to get weekly boss mats for lyney... i still read the story, but i didnt get to enjoy it as much as i wanted to because i rushed it

    Finally! I've been begging for more map pins. Hunting oculous and marking ore deposits has been a pain without enough pins.

      Buddy I dont think u need to save geo or animo oculai pins just saying u can survive with out 200 pins on in-game map

      @@gintasasd6814 I map ore deposits and enemies drops that I farm often too. I don't want to open the interactive map every time. Besides... I delete the oculi pins when I get the oculus and have cross-reference it with the interactive map to make sure it's the correct one that I am unpinning. I'm farming the hydroculous at the moment. There were 271 dendrolucous, so no I don't think 150 pins are enough when I map out ores/drops/follow-up-quests and cave entrances too.

      @@gintasasd6814 I don't farm oculi every patch. The black smith and adventure book only shows a limited amount. My pins are from the interactive map for ores that the blacksmith doesn't map like Cor Lapis and Notilucous jade as well as flora that the adventure book doesn't map like Valberries and Padisarah. The adventure handbook only shows the location for the hilichurl drop "divining scroll" for hilichurls in mondstadt and liyue only, so I have to map those out in other nations.

    Artifact loadouts, the cons toggle off option, resin gap increase, better daily system, more expedition slots, old events replay option...etc are but a few of the most common asked for quality of life features. The sad thing is a lot of the other ones are already implemented in HSR as the Genshin players clap for more skip story options.

    Ngl the weekly boss mats change is really good. I remember when Apep was first released I needed to fight it, so I was forced to play Nahida's second story quest immediately after the update even though I wanted to do that at a later date!

    I'm quite glad about the trounce domain, because I like to do my archon quests slowly, and so I'm still early in the sumeru quest. Because of this, my nahida and neuvillette are starving for talents.

      @@liateapot2313 You can do them with people that haven't unlocked the boss. What matters is that the host has unlocked the boss. I've been taking my BF on my world to do weekly bosses so he can catch up on mats without having to rush AQs and SQs. He still hasn't done Nahida's two story quests but has already killed the boss with me in my world multiple times.

    frigggggggggg this is great ......but also right after i hopped on my alt again after over a year and already cleared a ton of stuff (like nahida's for the domain etc) 😭
    the actually having to accept story quests is so good too, its so so frustrating to get stuck in the "this character is busy" chain

    OMG, this is a huge upgrade for me! Since I'm too lazy to complete the Archon Quests plus Story Quest to unlock the weekly bosses, many of my characters are "handicapped" at Level 6, now I can get those mats.
    On another thought, if that's the case, wouldn't Furina's weekly boss material also be able unlocked though this way? lol This is such a time saver!

      worst case scenario, the weekly boss will be at open map like andrius(since in the text already mentioned that you cannot use quick button at andrius)

      That's not how a game survives long term. Old players will always taper off as the game goes on. You need a supply of new players to have a sustainable game. Of course they shouldn't be ignoring the plight of old player and causing them to quit earlier than they otherwise would. They should address everyone's needs. They clearly have the money to do it. Sticking around shouldn't be a thing deserving of a reward. The reward is you got to play the game for longer. If that's a problem, perhaps the game just sucks and they should make a better game to begin with. No explicit attention needs to be given to rewarding staying around. The game should be enjoyable enough to keep people around on its own. Rewarding people for sticking around is just like the next step of the resin system. We don't need more predatory mobile game shit punishing players if they take a temporary break.

    I'm happy I don't have to rush the story to get to the trounce domain to farm the new boss, it was one of my worries for 4.2 because I will not have the time to do the archon quest for the first few weeks.

    To me this is a overall W as a TCG enjoyer, also about Weekly Bosses I think it's fair to have them unlocked after AR40, because many new players have a lot of quest that even if they want to do them, it's still a lot of time and we know that those materials are extremely rare so the sooner the better
    And for me as a veteran it's great because sometimes I don't have the time to do the Archon Quest the same week but I don't want to miss the materials so I end up going to bed at like 3am bc of that xD

    New players with Shenhe/Yae Miko/Yelan/Heizou/Kuki: this is worthless!

    nvm the Chasm is available starting at AR 28 and Enkanomiya is available starting at AR 30, so these characters will be able to get to lv80 or so to even bother with weekly boss materials.

      ​@@MrMaiio123 Those characters are locked with their world boss mats which is crucial for ascension (leveling up pretty much) in locked locations (Chasm, Enkanomiya). Trounce bosses are for Talent (Normal Atk, Skill, Burst) upgrades. Hence why it's useless for those characters.

    tbh i just wish for a better treasure compass system like the one in the sumeru summer event. so i dont have to look on guides on yt to look for missing chest etc etc and i already been asking it ever since the first few months of the introduction of reputation system in game.

      I want a treasure compass like the item from veluriyam mirage event. It was sooooo much more fun to find every chest and puzzle on my own with in game item's support than it is relying on interactive map and other resources that often have mistakes anyways

      That gadget makes the game wayyy too boring in my opinion.
      Like, what's the point of exploration when the game just feeding it directly to you? This kinda takes away the joy of finding hidden chests like the slime-umbrellas in Liyue.

      @@musicvideo5946 It's not like you just got it right away, tho, you had to open quite a few chests in order to access it. I still think it would be good to implement for players with something like 85-90% exploration, as a lot of the time those last chests are in hard to reach crannies, in places you've already explored. Not to mention I think there'd still be certain chests the map wouldn't be able to pinpoint, such as chests which are hidden behind things like regular torches or defeating a set of enemies for it to spawn (In contrast to being unlocked after defeating its guardians.)
      The main complain is that, when you reach enough exploration, "exploring" to get the lasts chests is just hopelessly combing through things you've seen until you run across one. Unleeeess...... You use the interactive map, which isn't very fun, as you still have to check every single chest you might or might not have. Also, the map is plain not fun, and this might be personal but it runs terribly on both my computer and my phone (I can excuse my phone, but I'd like to think my computer should run it decently...?? the fan map has better perfomance)

    I though Artifact loadouts were an impossibility because they wanted to discreetly limit the versatility of characters and push us to pull more for newer ones. But if loadouts are really a thing I will be VERY pleasantly surprised

      They mentioned they were looking into something like that in a previous DevDiscusion, but didn't mention any specifics or timetable, so something like that will come eventually, just not sure when and how exactly it will look like.

      ppl cry about loadouts but very few ppl will actually use them. Atm except Raiden EM/crit and maybe few others we dotn need to change artefacts too much.
      95% of the ppl just use 10-15 chars and most dont need to change artefacts.

      If my team has kazuha, I want that set on him. If that team has sucrose, I want that set on her.
      Changing that with 1 button would be awesome

      @@ReaperCet I know you think that and maybe in your case it maybe true. for a while at least. I play however around 2 y and I have at least 2-4 acceptable sets from all artefacts I need.
      from 60 units I have I play 15 regulary. They are build to 90, crowned and on their optimal set. I wouldnt bother to swap artefacts cos I dont want to start abyss for example on wrong arterfacts/weapon.
      Regarding Abyss its mostly 2-3 teams I use so idc for other units artefacts.

      Just because you only use a quarter of the characters you paid for, doesn't mean I want to.
      And I damn sure don't wanna grind for unnecessary god roll sets because it's a hassle to move them around.

    2 qol changes i've always wanted them to implement are 1) the ability to convert weapon billets from one type to another e.g. claymore to sword and 2) in the bp let us choose which region we want talent books from instead of it just being the 2 latest regions, i have so many unused sumeru talent books and never enough mondstadt/liyue ones.
    these are the 2 things i ask for in every survey but at this point in the game's lifespan i've kinda given up on them ever being implemented 😮‍💨

    Honestly the ability to quick start weekly bosses is amazing 🙌🏾😭 I ran into this issue with Neuvillette because I didn’t do Nahida’s second story quest to unlock the Apep weekly boss so I grinded through both story quests 😂

    This will be amazing for my second account! I play the content on my main leisurely as soon as it's out so no problems there, but in the other one I save big quests and world quests for replaying later so I don't get a Genshin burnout. As a result, I lost a few months worth of Apep boss drops as I hadn't done Nahida's second quest until late 3.7/early 3.8. Now that we'll get our first Fontaine weekly soon (I'm not leaking, we'll be the point in AQs where we should get a boss fight), I won't have to rush and do the 4.2 archon quest TWICE for Furina, as I'm pulling for her in both accounts.
    As for the character quests, this will finally remove that nasty red exclamation mark from not unlocking them all, and never again will cause me a deadlock (like it happened to me during the Sumeru AQ for having Nilou's CQ using the same fucking theater NPC)

    Personally most these changes don't affect me, I've done all the 5 stars story quests, that being said I do like that they're doing this, it helps a lot especially compared to how it was before, and also I can farm Furina's weekly boss drops before completing the Archon conquest (That's if that's how it works at least 😂😂😅😅)

    Nice changes, especially for new player. But, for old player like me just dont think much about these updates.
    One thing that i notice is that starting from version 4, genshin is making more of that developer discussion compared to the previous version after version 1.
    I sincerely hope that artifact loadout really come soon, because i already spent sometime to fill their survey with that suggestion from version 1 and only mention by them 3 years later. Very long time, but hey its better late than never.

    Faster TCG matters to me. I'm no great enthusiast but I still do my 4 weekly matches and having them done sooner is better.
    And yeah, I really like the weekly boss thing. I don't build a quest backlog but I try to not run out of content too fast so I'm rationing my quests and doing only so much every day. And particularly archon and story quests are best enjoyed during weekends when I have time for them so being able to postpone the quest a week or maybe two is really nice. I wish the city reputation was not locked behind finishing archon quest either, it'd be much better if it became available together with the first region's archon quest instead.

    I'm grateful for the instant weekly boss access for my bro's account where I can't do the story (bc my brother wants to do it himself) but still be able to have access to the weekly boss without going to another world who has already unlocked it. But I do feel bad for the new players who do have access to those bc then the Archon/Story quests will get spoiled. But ehhh, it'll be their experience, not mine.

      I'm ar56 and yet to complete Scara boss mostly because I enjoy the story and don't want to rush but, my Wanderer and Layla talents are stuck. So, I don't think it's for low ar but, for high ar that can fight the boss and are ready to upgrade talents but, are still in other regions because there is so much to do.

    I'm honestly just shocked that there are still so many genshin players that aren't interested in doing the story since SO MUCH STUFF is locked behind it. how do you stick with a game that locks everything behind quests that you don't even like doing? it just sounds frustrating and tedious. you can't leave mondstadt until a certain point in the story and an entire region is completely blocked until you start its quest. I know that I'll likely benefit from this story-skip change since I decided to start a new game, but I'm caught up with every quest that blocks something off on my main account. I'd only want to skip because I've already done it.

    "New players" you say. While I haven't played Genshin in months I might even go back to crown my characters. As an AR 60 player who didn't do any quests since suffering through Inazuma's "plot" or whatever the hell it was supposed to be, the coming update is a win.
    It's still not going to get me to play any of the quests because a second more of Paimon is a second more of subjecting yourself to an unnecessary pain. Oh and the writing and presentation aren't scraping the bottom of the barrel, nor they are the bottom or the below as they don't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with barrels to loosely quote late Roger Ebert. Add a g'damn skip button and I'd play your game, Mihoyo.

    Accelerate is nice but the problem with the TCG is you can roll elements that aren't in your deck, why can i roll geo when i'm not using a geo character, it's like playing magic and filling your deck with islands but your playing mono red.
    no resin boosts to match HSR, where you have more resin per day because it recharges faster, a higher cap so you don't need to login as much, and an overflow.
    still not having all weapon/talent domains be available every day like it is on sunday, like why is this even a thing.
    where is the self modeling resin to just force craft an artifact with the mainstat i want.
    Why is the weapon banner so shit.
    So mcuh i want to love about the game but every update it genuinely feels like the developers don't care, and that this game is just a cash cow to fund projects they actually care about.

      self modeling resin with the main stat you want yet surprise surprise the substats are still trash
      tcg works just like in real life tcgs it is all about luck.
      per day domain works for those who want to farm for arti or boss drop. and not just lets quickly boost this character cuz of updately powercreep
      boost resin? no. just use your primos if you want your boost resin -_-
      weapon banner is trash? at least it is still better mechanic now than in pre-2.0 update. like imagine getting tons of Skyward Lance or Nilou or Baizhu's signature weapons for 30 times than a guaranteed Broken Pines, Staff of Homa or Engulf Lightning on the 270? sure get.

    Well mostly I will still demand them to add that feature where we can see the amount of primos and mora from anywhere (by just clicking like hsr)..
    it's a huge QOL for me, even if some don't think it's much improvement...
    I will honestly ask them to add map sync too, it's too much mess to see guides to see if it's full 100% or not 😵

      Map sync wont happen because it would make compasses and resonance stones useless. It would also take away a lot from the exploration experience. PvP in gacha games is always iffy because of the fact that f2ps are always at a disadvantage

      One click for expeditions is such a tiny thing. You want to save 20 seconds when other changes could save so much more than that. Such as a skip dialogue/cutscene option or higher max resin meaning you don't have to log in twice a day. At least you mentioned the resin, but one click expeditions isn't even in the same ball park as it.

      @@Elrog3 I didnt ofc wrote all QoL that I want. Nor did they are equal. have two problems with the game - forcing me to do boring repetative shit that is not fun - like pointless clicks for expedition or pot, or gathering mats, or crystal crafting or whatever incl resin.
      Second is related to flaws in the combat system
      However skip conversations is not something I like or need. it will be detrimental to the game. My biggest need to skip dialog was for dailies but with the new event system I dont need to do anydaily I dont like.

      Not everyone wants to play for the story. The option being there doesn't take anything away from people who do want to play for the story. Although it not mattering for all players does decrease its importance, I still think overall it would make a bigger difference than one click expeditions. Personally, I'd settle for the ability to exit dialogue (without skipping it) if I am being attacked or a friend wants to co op or I decide I want to do something else. And for expeditions, I'd rather 0 click them by getting rid of them entirely and just increasing the reward from the daily commission or something instead. Making things simpler is also better for new players.

My view is that the story is 70% of the game. ppl connect to the world true the story /incl char story/. they pull and simp characters for design and personality. If everything was skippable Gi would have been much less succesful. Cosplays are full of GI chars cos GI managed to create attachment.
      I disagree with Ratheil that forcing ppl to do something will have 100% negative effect. In fact often you need to force ppl to do something for their own good.
      implemeting skip will reduce overal engament in the game, that will lead to diminshing playerbase, then profits, then company engament, then quality of the game etc.
      ppl cry about dailies, long quests, grind etc but If you remove it they wil leave XDD
