Ricky Ross, lead singer, songwriter and founder of multimillion album selling group Deacon Blue follows the release of 2016’s “Believers”, the band’s most successful studio album in 23 years and “Live at The Glasgow Barrowlands” the recently released UK Number 1 Music DVD, with a solo album and tour, “Short Stories Vol.1”. Album to be released on CD, vinyl and digitally on September 15th, 2017 on earMUSIC.
The album was recorded over two days at Chameleon Studios in Hamburg and had its sumptuous strings and choir added back in Glasgow. It finds Ricky Ross playing brand new songs, revisiting well-known Deacon Blue tracks and other less well known songs from throughout his 30 year career as one of Britain’s best loved songwriters.
The idea of the album will be further developed on the just announced extensive Autumn tour, with Ricky at the piano, playing special venues across the UK, Ireland, Germany and The Netherlands, presenting his songs and telling stories about what has influenced his songwriting from across his entire career.
For the first time tickets for the tour are available to buy alongside the album and doing so unlocks an exclusive, limited edition, numbered 7" vinyl containing a new recording of the Deacon Blue classic 'Raintown' recorded with a beautiful backing choir, along with a brand new track 'The Soldier’s Song'. Both recordings are only available on the limited 7" vinyl on rickyross.tmstor.es/.
In Ricky's own words: "This album is like a souvenir of my solo shows, which are a very different beast to Deacon Blue live. They're intimate, minimal, a chance for me to revisit songs that started out life with just piano and vocals and take them back to their roots, as well as play some new songs inspired by recent times." - Hudba
This is so so good - I can't describe how much I love this song and the craftmanship of Ricky Ross. I remember arriving back into the UK from Canada and travelling for my new job from Skelmersdale to Knowsley. It was freezing, bitter, dark and 6am in the morning. This was on the radio and I thought - I'm home - I'm home . Love it. Thank you so much for posting.
I've been listening to this song for 30 years✨✨✨
Wow!! I think this song just got even more beautiful!
The original!
This one works so well on the piano! He plays it so effortlessly. God bless his talent!! So modest!!
Ricky ross has been touched with a smidgeon of genius!
Absolutely agree with that, bro'.
Great turn of phrase and I completely concur!! And yet he is so modest and cool about being so gifted, isn't he?

Still have it one of the best versions of this song always being played in our Home, still remember the Corn exchange in Cambridge where you played saying Cambridge you Rock!!! Great Night, thank you
Incredible that the voice is still crystal. No auto tune. Real instruments. Kids these days don't get it...
Absolutely amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I absolutely love this. Just awesome!
love the connection between both bands & there lead singers - So Good
Always loved this track but the acoustic version just has that touch of something else to it!. Same with Bethlehem's Gate...that's a great acoustic track too.

It`s a rain dirt town job hurts but it don`t pay
All these calls they`re making me and driving you insane
Don`t you see
Don`t you understand
Waiting for the phone to ring to make me all I am.
You`re in the suburbs waiting for somewhere to go
I`m down here working on some dumb show
In a raintown
Raintown
Rain down
On all those tired eyes and tears and frowns
In a raintown
Raintown
Rain down
On all those days you`re not around
It takes a big hearted girl from the North Country you can tell
How you payed those bills and went through
Heaven and hell
And you
You cried and you traveled and you spat but you never asked
Well how long how long how long is this pain
You`re on for three minutes trying hard to say hello
I`m down here working on some dumb show
In a Raintown
Raintown
Rain down
On all those tired eyes and tears and frowns
In a Raintown
Raintown
Rain down
On all those days you`re not around
Sitting at home listening to your radio
Listening for your old friend talking on some dumb show
What`s he saying
What`s he saying
What`s he saying
In a Raintown
Raintown
Rain down
On all those tired eyes and tears and frowns
In a Raintown
Raintown
Rain down
On all those days you`re not around
Raintown
Rain down
On all those tired eyes and tears and frowns
Raintown
Rain down
On all those days you`re not around
You`re not around
You`re not around
Great version but I keep hearing Lorraine in my head haha. Never heard a song where it really can’t be done justice without the original “backing singer”
True
Me too.
How can you not though😊
Really tinder rated band
