I guess many Japanese people would say "I just called because I wanted to hear your voice" instead of "I just called to say I love you". It's very interesting that different words and phrases are used to express feelings. Are these words for lovers or for their beloved family members?
「ただI love youと伝えたくて電話したんだ」なんてストレートで素敵な表現ですね。「声が聞きたくて」ぐらいだったら恥ずかしがらずに言えそうだななんて思いました。これは愛する恋人に向けたのか、家族なのか、伝えたいことは伝えたい時に伝えたいものですね。
