How to FIX Red or Stuck Pixel on SONY a7iv & other alpha series cameras

  • I noticed a red pixel in my Sony a7iv footage and first I thought that the sensor is dead, but it turns out that you can remap the Sony alpha sensor and get rid of dead pixels. Don't worry if your alpha 7 iv seems to have a dead pixel, because you can fix Sony alpha stuck pixel by following couple of easy steps.
    1. Go to Date/Time settings and change the date for example three months ahead.
    2. Turn off the camera and wait for a moment.
    3. Turn on the camera, the dead pixel mapping will be performed.
    4. Revert the Date/Time back to the actual date.

    I have tried this amazing tutorial on Sony A7ii, and it works. You saved my life. I want to ask, in this tutorial the date and time are set for the next 2 months, does this Red Dot only last for 2 months? will it reappear after 2 months?

    • @MikusAusters
      @MikusAusters  Před 13 hodinami

      Awesome! No, it shouldn't reappear after 2 months. So the thing is that the camera does the sensor remapping once in a while and by changing the date you force it to do the remapping. Basically just manually activating it. It doesn't mean that the red pixels couldn't appear ever, but not because of changing the date by 2, 3, 4 or whatever months. A new red pixel appeared in my footage couple of days ago, but at a different spot and it has bean a really really long time since I used this method. Pretty cool that I did this tutorial, so I knew immediately where to look for it. :D

    • @MikusAusters
      @MikusAusters  Před 8 měsíci +1

      As I mention in the video, this how to helps to solve the problem when the red pixel appears in footage. And then by following the steps you can remap the sessor so it wouldn't appear in the footage. But this has nothing to do with the LCD screen. That is a different issue and since I haven't experienced it, I don't know if that can be fixed so easily.

      It is great to hear that you haven't had this issue with your cameras, but apparently this issue is pretty common with the FX3, FX30 and alfa series cameras. This is a big issue on ZV-E1 or at least mine, I’ve sent it back to be investigated by Sony.
    Heat causes the issue on the sensor mainly. The ZV-E1 or at least mine, auto ran pixel remapping almost every time it started up.
    However, new hot pixels would come regularly. So you could be shooting, no hot pixels. Then 15 mins later they appear. I’m pretty sure it’s due to the heat. Others I know have had the same problem. I just had a lot of Disneyworld nighttime footage affected by 3, you don’t know they are there at the time. No reviewers mention this, I’m going to do a video on my channel if it still happens when it comes back from Sony.

    If the right pixes are copy paste/stretched is that dead pixels?, not all of them are but almost all. just a few near the top are. I got mine used from a dealer. It's only in the Raw files directly from the camera, but JPG directly from the camera does not have it. I have firmware 1.11.
    I tried remapping the sensor as shown, I took a test pic of my bedroom wall, it did definitely have more pixels, but still more pixels were stretched. I don't know if it's a firmware issue or pixel issue. and if the changes are just due to the scene. Will take more shots.
    Update after some more testing I've concluded it's a Rawtherapee bug. It also forces different resolution.

    • @MikusAusters
      @MikusAusters  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yeah, to be honest I don't know much about the pixels being stretched or how it could impact your images, but it's related to something else right?

    • @mtbboy1993

      @@MikusAusters I figured it out, it's issues with Rawtherapee. So far what works for me is Lightroom, and Sony Imaging Edge Edit, but Lightroom have more features Si I bought the Lightroo & Photoshop pack. Good deal as I pay less than each software separately. It works flawlessly there.
      I've also tested Darktable, pixels look normal but it sneezes the image, it's narrower, and does not read the resolution correctly. So these two free softwares have to be updated to support it.

But I don't want to mess with this anymore. Lightroom works for me. A few quirks here and there, but nothing restarting the software won't fix. Like blank adjustment bar, and drop in import of pics. But I am sure they will fix that eventually. It only happen once. Rawtherapee is mostly stable, only bug I've found was the de fringe tool does not fully show before I move the window from fully expanded move it around and then go back. In Lightroom it just works, and it works better it seems. but I do reach the limit if very out of focus. Let's see... give it another try:
      1) change the date to like 5 months or even years in the future.
      2) turn off the camera, but be patient and wait for a while. You should hear a shutter sound.
      3) turn the camera on and change the date back to what it should be and turn the camera off once more (wait for the shutter sound as well).
      4) turn the camera on and take some test footage.
      I haven't used a6600, but I am guesing that there could be a difference in the time period for sensor remaping. Let me know if worked.

    • @MikusAusters
      @MikusAusters  Před 8 měsíci

      has the red pixel showed up in the footage itself or on the camera screen? Because those are two different problems.
      If it's in the footage, then you might be able to fix it for happening in the future, by following the steps I mention in the video. Follow each step slowly on by one. Try to set the date couple of months further.
      However this will not fix the footage already captured, because the red pixel is already baked in.

    • @MikusAusters
      @MikusAusters  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Let's see... give it another try, because it works for the A7siii and FX30 and they have really similar tech.
      Here is what you could do:
      1) change the date to like 5 months or even years in the future.
      2) turn off the camera, but be patient and wait for a while. You should hear a shutter sound.
      3) turn the camera on and change the date back to what it should be and turn the camera off once more (wait for the shutter sound as well).
      4) turn the camera on and take some test footage.
      I haven't used FX3, but I am guessing that there could be a difference in the time period for sensor remapping. Let me know if worked. Or maybe the issue is something else.
